O.k. When this happened to me , I took Mialax every hour for 3 hours then again before bed with a dose of MOM(milk of Mag) I managed to go the next morning. Other WLS patients have needed enemas. For the 1st month -6 weeks you should be on a stool softener daily. Remember if you don't drink ,you won't poop. Eventually you will get on a schedule, for example if I don't go in two days I start my stool softener, then if I still have not gone after the 3rd or 4th day it is MOM time. Some of us take stool softeners as a daily requirement, but we need to be careful as our bodies can become dependent on them. I take Benefibre daily (3 teaspoons) but I make damn sure I get 64 oz water in with it . I only have to use the softener (miralax) and or MOM about once every other month or so. Good luck ......
  2. We can't do gummies, don't absorb. Also we are adults so have to take adult vitamins. Check out the America Society for metabolic and Bariatric Surgery guidelines. It tells you everything you need to be taking in regards to vitamins.

    4 days post op

Try for 1 oz (I used a med cup) every 15-30 minutes. Water is essential You do not want to dehydrate. It takes a while to get up to 64 oz. protein is important but not as much as water is for the first week or so. Do what you can. It gets a bit easier every day...Post-op RNY 9 months. The first couple of weeks are tough. Best wishes on your journey.....remember protein shakes count as liquid towards your daily goal.

    Ladies over 50 - bypass

Hi everyone, I am a 58 year old Canadian, I am 9 months post-op RNY. It has been an incredible journey, wish I had done it years ago. It is not easy but oh so worth it .

    Eating

Go back to liquids for a day or two. Avoid yogurt for awhile, you may have become allergic to milk products.(lactose). For the pain all I can suggest is to keep walking and to sip warm broth, tea even just warm water, hopefully they will soothe your pouch. Best wishes

    Frustrated...

I am Canadian as well, from Ontario. Took 11 months from orientation to surgery. Had to jump through a lot of hoops and the waiting was frustrating . Seemed like that year took forever but I am soooo glad I followed through . I am 9 months post- op , down 120 lbs. and feeling great. Soon you will be on the losers bench too.

Milk of Magnesia , an enema, and water, water, then more water....... Once you have a BM then start using a stool softener , miralax is good but it will take a few days to kick in. But every one here is correct , not going can cause painful problems. So keep on top of it. Should not go more than 3 days without a BM. Post-op 9 months RNY. Good luck.

    Why am I gaining weight?

What James said is right on. Be patient you just had major surgery and your body is in defend and protect mode.

    Just sick and discouraged

Keep the faith, your body is in protection mode. Do what you are supposed to and be patient. It will work

I think I stretched my pouch

Are you eating dense protein, (keeps you full longer), or slider proteins that slide right on through your pouch? Dense protein will keep you full for up to 5 hours as long as you don't drink with your meal or for at least 30 minute after This will sound weird but what you are experiencing is head hunger not real hunger because when they do the surgery they cut the nerves that tell us we are hungry and they don't grow back for 6 - 8 months. Make sure you are getting your protein, water , vitamins and a bit of exercise and you will do great 9 months Post-op RNY.
  11. Yes, a lack of protein and water can cause weight stalls. When we hit a stall the first rule is to up protein and water then increase your exercise if possible . Protein is one of the main fuels for our body. We require it to build lean muscle mass, to give us energy and to help maintain general good health. I am 9 months post RNY and I make sure I get between 80 - 100 grams of protein daily.
  12. Break it into 4 , have a quarter every hour, does not matter how long it takes you to get them in as long as you do

    Pain while drinking?

Try adding water to the things you can drink, dilute your broth, protein shakes and skim milk. That should up your fluid amounts.
  14. Tylenol products are O.K. Nothing with NSAIDS. Last I read Dayquill and Nitequill were O.K. But check with your pharmacist As long as there are no NSAIDS you should be good to go.
  15. The reasoning is to keep the food in the pouch so the brain thinks it is very full. When we drink to soon the liquid dilutes the food in the pouch and moves it through too quickly then we get hungry again too soon. If we are eating dense protein we should be full for 5 1/2 hours. there are videos on U-Tube that will show you the whole process.
