  1. Hi everyone, I'm just checking in to see how all the April 7th people are coming along. I have my good days and bad days, mostly good though. I've been getting outside with my kids this week, and trying to find an activity that includes walking every day. I've finally figured out how to get all my Protein and Water in. It's been trial and error, but I finally got it. I've been getting a sore feeling in my left upper abdomen the past two evenings. The heating pad usually takes care of it, but I was just curious to see if anyone else was having anything like that. Crystal, while I haven't been getting motion sick, I have been getting a little nauseous lately. I had no nausea after the surgery, and now after I eat, I get a little queasy. It goes away on it's own after a little while. I'm hoping it will resolve all together soon. Overall I am feeling good, and I go back to work Monday, and that is good. I don't really miss work, I just miss having somewhere to go everyday.

    Welcome

Hi fellow April RNY buddies, I had my RNY on Monday. I actually had mine done at the hospital that I work at. I've known my surgeon for quite a while, and I have always like the way she takes a personal interest in her patients. So far I am doing great. I can't believe that in a matter of days I went from "OMG when am I ever going to be able to eat again" to "I better not put that in my mouth, or I'll be sorry". For those who haven't been though it yet I'll break down my experience so that you can have an idea what you have to look forward to. Surgery Day: Get up early and go to the hospital. I'm all nerves, so on the way to the OR they gave me a little something to relax me. I remember the oxygen mask going on, and then trying to wake up in the recovery room. Every time I tried to wake up, they would ask if I was in pain, I would of course say yes, and they would give me more meds, which knock me out. I really did want to wake up, but wasn't communicating very well at that point. I finally got taken to my room around 4pm, and they started me on ice chips, and kept my pain level under control very well. I was able to get up and walk twice, and got my catheter out about 11pm. Post-op day 1: They changed my pain meds to IV Tylenol and Toradol, with IV narcotic pain meds by request for breakthrough pain. I only needed those twice all day, and was up and walking 5 times. I had trouble getting in all the fluids and Protein that I needed so they kept me another night. At night I started to develop the dreaded gas pain, which put me even further behind on my fluids and protein. My night nurse was really great, and we worked out a nice balance between pain control meds and my walking schedule. Post-op day 2: Had a great night, and woke up feeling pretty good. Walked a couple of times in the morning and was released around noon to go home. Still had to work really hard on getting in enough fluids and protein. I felt like I spent my whole day counting my intake. Was able to go for a short walk with my family. Sleeping in my own bed was awesome though. Post-op day 3: Woke up feeling awesome, was able to get up and help with the morning routine and walked my son to the bus stop before needing to take pain medicine, Was much easier to get my fluids in. I'm so tired of chocolate Protein Shake. Still needed a little nap, but then went for a long walk after. Didn't need anymore pain medicine until night time. The heating pad is my best friend right now. Post-op day 4: Sleep well, and got up and moving early. No pain medicine so far since I woke up (did have to take some in middle of the night) My only concern is that I haven't had a BM yet. Hopefully that will come today. Today I advance to full liquids, so I made myself some sugar free protein pudding. Still struggling to get enough Water, but so far I'm doing better today I'm getting bored at home, but I have a class that starts tonight, so that will help.
  3. Just got my IV out, and I can go home as soon as DH gets here. I'm so excited to get back to my house! Anyone else gettting to go home today?

    New Food For Post Ops...

I'd really appreciate it if you could send me a copy too. kfhf20@yahoo.com Thanks
  5. The gas is making me miserable too. It is my only real complaint. I have been walking and using my heating pad, but I still don't have room for the protein I have to drink to be able to go home. Never felt this full in my life. On a happier note, my mom called last night, and is sending me all the clothes she can't fit into anymore. This is a total score because my mom is a shopaholic with really good taste!

    April 2014 Post-op

Had my surgery this morning, so now I can be on the losers bench. I'm still in the hospital, waiting for my nurse to get me up to walk, this gas is really my only pain right now. I've been sipping Water and eating ice chips. So far so good.
  7. I came out of surgery about 2pm EST, and I'm now in my room, eating ice chips! Pain is being managed with an IV med for now,and that is good, because it is pretty intense, but I'm thinking that will improve drastically once I'm up and walking. So far so good. Anyone else?
  8. Good luck Papgrimace, hope you were able to get some sleep. I had to take some benadryl myself. I'm leaving to take my son to daycare now, and then DH is driving me to check-in. Everyone please check in when you are feeling up to it. I want to know that everyone did great!
  9. I know exactly what you all mean. My duh has been supportive one day and not the next. It is stressing me out. He's been good since I started the pre-op diet. I had to have my BFF have a talk with him. She told him he can't keep going back and forth, and that if he said he will support me thy he has to do that now because its his job as my husband to keep his promises to me. I think after the deed is done, it is easier for the skeptics to get on board
  10. WhooHooo! Last day of work before the big day. We are almost there! What is everyone doing to keep themselves busy for the weekend. I have a final that I am to distracted to study for (thankfully it is open book). I plan to clean my house and pack. Has anyone started packing yet?
  11. My body is finally adjusting to the liquid diet. I was STARVING when I got home from my class tonight, but I had my Protein shake and my Greek yogurt, and I felt really full. I am having a cup of chamomile tea before bed to help me sleep and to keep me feeling full until I fall asleep. How is every one else doing on their diet? I've lost about 1 pound a day. Anyone else loosing?
  12. He had a moment last week where he tried to convince me to try some fad diet. I had to explain to him in detail how I had already tried all of these, and that I was going through with the WLS. He fussed for a couple of days, but on Sunday he helped me get ready for my pre-op diet that started Monday, and has been very supportive ever since. Thanks for the support. I'm getting so excited for Monday!
  13. I've been alternating the sweet Protein shake with chicken broth with a scoop of unflavored protein added to it. That is helping alot. I've found that if I alternate warm and cold liquids it helps too. I can have Decaf, so in the morning, I have coffee and a shake, then I have a mid morning snack of sugar free Jello. Then protein broth for lunch, and and afternoon coffee. I'll usually have more Jello if I'm still hungry. For diner I am allowed a Greek yogurt, so I have that plus a Protein Shake, and some broth without protein. I've been getting over 70 grams of protein per day this way. The time I struggle with is when I have to fix dinner for the family. tonight was really hard, but I made it through. Monday can't get here fast enough.
  14. My surgeons office just called, and my surgery got bumped up from 1:30 to 10:30. That is even better, I won't have the first half of the day to stress myself out, and I should get to see DH before he has to go do the kid pick-up.
  15. I'm April 7th as well and super nervous. I am planning to study tomorrow and Thursday for a test on Saturday. Then I am going to try to keep busy with some decluttering as well. I'm so excited infant even stand myself.
