    Should I?..Do I have to?

    My surgeon saw me 1 week post op. Then every 3 months so far. Part of that is also following up on my gallbladder removal as well though.
  3. @@freshair it's a Water flavoring - it's with Mio and other brands in the store. I rotate between that and Mio 'sweet tea' at the moment. I don't care for apple juice (never have) only drank some diluted during my pre-ops liquids and barely got it down then

  5. I got a toddler set of flatware...I basically just used the spoon. Mostly when I was on soft foods, occassionally I will still grab it if I think I am eating too fast - it just makes me more aware. I've always eaten with the salad fork, so I just continued with that. As for dishes, I eat off of the salad/sandwich plate. I also use the Corning custard cups I have a lot. I know that filled to the bottom line is 1/4c and the top line is 1/2c. I used them so often I actually bought some more - this set has little plastic lids - PERFECT! Good luck!!!

    Protien, water & vitamin intake

    How about an unflavored that you can put in Jello, crystal light or juice? Of course, unjury has one, but there are others as well. I don't know about your plan, but I was on Clear Liquids for a week, then full liquids for two...full liquids included yogurt - I would mix Protein powder in plain Greek yogurt. That was a nice change from the shakes
  8. I always seem to do better mixing something in my Water, even before surgery. Right now I'm on a pineapple & coconut Dasani kick.

    Chewable Fiber?

    I bought Vitafusion fiber gummies from Sam's Club. I usually take 4-5 and they seem to be helping. They taste pretty good & I have never been a "gummy" fan.

    Help....please

    @@Lovebuggie I agree with kindle & others. You may want to try myfitnesspal for awhile to see where you stand. I use it everyday, but more as a guide. I had surgery a couple weeks before you & I appear to be breaking a 6 wk stall. I recomitted to drinking a lot more Water, etc. At this point, you should be able to handle most foods...just remember to be cautious when you add something you haven't had yet, just in case Maybe you can find a support group at a medical facility near you? If not..you have us!! We're not your doctor obviously, but most here are more than willing to assist.

    How do you guys eat out...

    We don't eat out a lot, but often enough. Our usual place is a buffet with tons of seafood..so I can always find something. They charge me the kid's price. If it's a sit down dinner, I usually order from the kid's menu or the appetizers. Last week I treated myself...we stopped unexpectedly at Longhorn for a late dinner...I told the waitress my hubby wants the add-on Lobster Tail I stopped in Panera while shopping on the weekend & got the Power chicken Hummus Bowl. Ate most of the toppings & took the rest home for later.

    I agree with @@BeagleLover as well. My PCP always downplayed the idea..telling me just exercise more & eat less (like I've NEVER tried that before). Thankfully, my gyno (which is pretty much my primary doctor anyways), thought it was a wonderful idea, thought I would be perfect candidate and said he would be more than happy to be my sponsor (pre-op diet, etc). He has definitely been a cheerleader in my corner ever since - glad I took the chance to talk to him after the disappointing conversation with my PCP.

    The list......

    I am pretty much going to agree with CowgirlJane & WL Warrier..keep plugging along, it does get better. You already know how important it is to stay hydrated--you have to find what works for you. If cold drinks don't sit well, try warm. Next week (or even tomorrow) you may only tolerate the opposite. If at this point mashed potatoes are all you can manage, try mixing some unflavored Protein powder or some greek yogurt into it for added protein. Un jury makes a chicken Soup Protein Powder that mixes nicely as well. Good luck & keep us posted - you'll do great!!

    Outpatient vs. Inpatient?

    I stayed overnight at the hospital (through their outpatient center). Once I passed the leak test & kept some food down the following day, I was allowed to go home. Great care and had no problems.

    Wasn't going to chime in, but changed my mind. @DBLPattyMELT7am Answer: It's not weird. While I totally get the craving/wanting to part (I certainly am not perfect), I will only say try not to make it something you do often. There is plenty of evidence that chewing & spitting has medical side effects - just google it. It is classified in most circles as disordered eating. In fact, people who have this problem (talking chronic here) tend to actually gain weight and can have stomach & mouth issues. I would guess if people with "normal" stomachs have issues, our smaller/healing tummies might have bigger problems...but that is just my guess. One time does not a chronic problem make. I would argue knowing this can develop into a habit is something worth keeping in mind. Good luck on your journey!

  20. I won tickets to the football game on Sunday...several NSVs. I could walk from the parking lot and up the stairs without getting out of breath, I stood in the food line mainly for a bottle of Water & not all the food I could eat. Best of all though (well, besides the shock that the Rams actually beat the Broncos - sorry Denver fans), I could sit in the seat & actually bop around. Yes, I showed off to my hubby - especially since a year ago we were at the stadium for another event & I pretty much had to sit on the edge of my seat because my hips/thighs were wedged against the arm rests.

    I love her site and recipes! You have to remember that she is a bypass patient, so sometimes you may need to adjust (carbs wise) for the sleeve. I had ricotta pancakes last night...love them!
  24. Finding this thread was such good timing today. I've been stuck in a stall for almost a month. I know I shouldn't worry about it that much, since I know I am doing everything I'm supposed to. I've started walking regularly and this week I can routinely walk a mile - with my bad knees & discs in my back I know how big a deal that is. It was just a dream 6 months ago. My husband tells me how proud he is of me, which is wonderful. I took measurements this week and truly enjoyed those numbers! Sometimes it's just hard to keep those negative worries from creeping in...maybe this is all there is....maybe I won't be able to lose the weight with this either. Thankfully, coming here helps keep those worries at bay and keeps me motivated. So, thank you to everyone for their input here - you never know who your comments may help! Good luck to all.
