Did you have surgery due to regain or for medical a medical reason like reflux? How much have you lost since RNY? I'd like to lose some of what I've regained, but the reflux is the main reason I'm planning on getting a revision. I just want to get an idea of what to expect.

Congratulations! My RNY was last Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. I'm doing good drinking. I posted on another page, I'm a little worried because I'm taking bigger drinks than the medicine cup. I took Tylenol (liquid) at noon today and I was fine until 9 PM. I took a pain pill at 6:30 this morning and then again a little while ago. My breast bone and down my left side is very sore, but all in all, I'm going goo. No hunger at all right now. I'm glad it's over with and I'm on the road to recovery. Good luck, keep us all posted!!

I gained 40 lbs!! I maintain at or below goal (150) for 8 years!! I've already lost just under 20 lbs, but I'm on full liquids. No Gerd, no chest pain from the hiatal hernia. Right now, other than struggling with Protein, this was a win/win!!

Nothing crazy but very different. Eating is a challenge, getting enough fluids is a challenge taking supplements is a challenge. I'm struggling. I've been severely dehydrated about a month ago. I should have gone to the ER but they're full of Covid and the wait is HOURS literally. I drank Pedialyte unflavored, added grape juice, chicken broth and milk. It too four day to get through the vomiting and severe headache, but I still haven't fully recovered. I need to get a handle on this. I'm so glad to be through with reflux and the non-cardiac chest pains from the hernia, but dang, I want to get past all this other business!

Thank you all so much the advice. I don’t know how or if I can respond to each person. I truly appreciate your ideas.

Does anyone have any suggestions for Protein intake struggles? I have a very hard time getting Protein Shakes down. I know I need them and I find myself becoming super anxious when it’s time to drink them.

I would definitely call your doctor. This does not sound normal to me. Even if they are two hours away they can see you or recommend someone near you.
Taking your supplement is critical. Are you unable to take it because you throw up? Mine makes me throw up sometimes. I have to take it with food. Can you take yours with a Protein Shake? Are you not able to drink?
It sounds serious, so call the doc or their office to talk to a PA/NP. Good luck!

You really need to seek out some medical advice about this.
Generally rumbling, gurgling, etc. is common. Mine can be very loud so I quizzed my surgeon’s partner at a recent check up & she said it was my body doing what it’s supposed to: digest food. (My young nieces & nephews think my noisy tummy is hilarious.)
Pain & nausea is not common & needs to be explored to see what’s going on. The nausea could be the Vitamins but that usually only occurs after you take them & doesn't continue all day long. You may need an ultrasound & endoscopy to see what’s happening.
Work at increasing your Fluid intake. At 32oz you’re only getting half of what your body needs. If your active or live in a hot climate you’ll need more. You could be borderline dehydrated which could also be contributing to your nausea & discomfort.
    All the best.

I’m almost 16 months out from revision. I had VSG to RNY revision due to GERD 8 months after my VSG because of a hiatal hernia of almost my entire sleeve. The protonix after surgery made the GERD worse until I stopped taking it and I was great after.
As for food tolerance after revision I couldn’t eat eggs or chicken for almost a year but handled egg substitutes well. I also still can’t eat cucumbers which is a bummer because I love them. Some days I still can’t eat more than a few bites of things and other days It seems like I can’t eat enough. I do experience dumping sometimes but it’s a random thing that happens even if I’ve eaten the food before so there’s no rhyme or reason to it.

I agree with Grady Cat. The whole point of the surgery is that your stomach is smaller so you won't eat as much. Also, as far as not enjoying food - unfortunately, that comes back for almost all of us. I say "unfortunately" because it will never in your life be as easy as it is right now to lose weight when you don't want to eat and don't give a flip about food. Take FULL advantage of that! Your hunger and appetite will eventually come back sometime during the first year (or at least it does for the vast majority of us - mine came back at five months out), and once it does, things will become a lot more challenging. So I know this sounds weird to say, but enjoy it while it lasts! I wish my hunger had never come back!
P.S. I should add that you do need to meet your nutritional requirements, so at least eat what you need to eat for that. But food will just be fuel for you for awhile...

I drink sugar free Gatorade- I’ll take it and mix it with Water and my son got me a sugar free body armor I asked my surgeon and nutritionist if it was ok both said yes. So I get the big bottles and I’ll sip on 1/2 of one a day with my water. I’ve never had an issue to the water and hit my 64 ounce goal within in the first week but I drank a lot of water before surgery. Also I keep it on my night stand so if I wake up for any reason I take several sips of the water. It helps.

You're supposed to feel full really fast. That's the whole point of the new stomach - to keep you from eating as much. You're still new to this, so it's going to take a while longer for you to adjust both physically and mentally to the new you. It's okay. We've all been there. You've GOT THIS! Good luck on your WLS journey.

I had surgery the day after Thanksgiving. I was 7 weeks out this past Friday. I'm struggling. I was/am dehydrated, severely dehydrated. I knew I wasn't drinking enough for a couple of weeks, my skin was very dry and my lips stayed chapped. Last Saturday at 4 PM I started vomiting uncontrollably and at the same time my head was pounding. We were out running errands, my husband had to pull over. I had to take a couple of drinking of Water so I'd have something to throw up. I kept heaving on the way home, luckily we were about 6 blocks away. My husband went to Walgreens to get Pedialyte and he was able to talk to the pharmacist. He said classic signs of advanced dehydration. Keep me drinking, so I was doing nothing but drinking this stuff, lactose free milk and chicken broth. Called and was able to talk to my doctor Sunday. He said what I was doing was good. If I started running a fever or 100 or more, go to the ER. Did good until I felt a little better Monday evening, then I made the mistake of trying to eat some stew meat. He wants me to start getting Protein Shakes in, 100 grams of Protein a day. I'm on my third brand, they all make me sick after about 1/4 of the bottle. I can't get in all my supplements; it feels like I'm eating a meal. I am at a loss. I cannot comfortably eat more than an oz of food at a time. Have you had problems with being sick?

I am 8 weeks post op. I've lost 42 lbs. I am now at a stall weight which is fine I guess, I've read serveal post that say this stall is just temperary so I'm trying to remain optimistic. My biggest problem is "food". Nothin goes down right and nothing feels good in my stomach. I'ts very discouraging. And I miss the satified feeling you get when you eat something really good. Everything I try to eat taste okay but not good. Plus I get really full really fast.

You will do great. The medical reasons are the most important but I won't lie... having another bite of the weight loss proverbial apple makes it a win/win. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing with recovery. I will join you on Dec. 2nd. Take care.

I'm 60ish.. had my bypass Nov 26. Down just 18 pounds. But I can't walk as much with bad back and need a new hip. Just stick to the plan. It will happen might take a little more time because we are older but we have the time. And we won't have the drastic look of our face looking as old because it will come off slower. It will happen. We have time that's for sure! You will be fine.

Don't worry, it'll have worked. Lots of people can be slow to lose immediately after surgery. I am almost 4 weeks out and I have lost 15lbs in total from the day of my surgery and only 7 of those were since I got back home over 3 weeks ago! 13lbs in 16 days on ANY diet is amazing and that's only the start for you. 👍

Hello! For those that have gotten the revision because of the GERD, did you feel relief immediately or did it take some time? My revision from sleeve to bypass was on 10/27, however I still feel GERD. I’ve heard some ppl say they felt immediate relief and others that it takes time. Can you all tell me what was your experience please. I am praying it goes away. The main reason I got the revision was for relief.
