Your suggestion sounds like cheer leading to me. For any surgical procedure, especially one that alters your body permanently, it is very important to be educated on all the ways that having this surgery might impact you. While not everyone gets a complication, many people want to hear both sides of the story before they make a decision. How can anyone make a decision with only one side/angle to the story. The fact that a thread about complications exists and there are multiple posts to it is proof enough that this surgery has had a downside for many. I do not believe in blinders. My own surgery is still scheduled for this month, and I begin my liver reduction diet on the 8th. I still am ambivalent about it but know that if all goes well for me, this could change my life for the better. That is why I have not postponed it.

You REALLY DON'T have to go through such a drastic life changing, organ altering experience for yourself. BP is not the only forum to get the information good or bad, that you're seeking. I'm sure there are actual support groups at the facility that you've sought out where you can meet face to face with people who've had various bariatric surgeries and can tell you face to face their own personal experience. There's also Google and YouTube with great information. This decision will be your own personal journey and like everyone else, you too will have your own story to tell whether you decide to go for it or not. Best of luck.

  2. I love this. My pre op diet starts on the 15th as well. 20 more days of "fat freedom". Tonight is Mexican and later this week is pizza. That is all. I've been watching what I've been eating for months now. Just a couple last hurrahs!!

@@lose4life2 Congratulations to you!! I've been enjoying my favorites, all you can eat crab legs, tacos, pizza, Pasta and just plain ole good eating! Lol!! I'm done now, starting to get into the reality of this new stomach/body! :)

  3. My latest moment was at my grandma birthday celebration this past summer 2014..... Our family had identical shirts made and mine was a 2X, when I put it on the day of, it was too tight along with my too tight stretch pants! The kicker was when the photographer posted and tagged me AND everyone that was in the same pictures with me on facebook! I was horrified! My rear end looked like a wide load truck! I looked uncomfortably stuffed and you could see EVERY roll even what I didn't know that I had! Since my substantial weight gain, no one on FB had seen a full body shot of me! The only thing that I could do was untag myself:( I'm scheduled to have my life changing experience (VSG) September 26, 2014

It makes me very skeptical of WLS death reporting since I suppose that if it happens after surgery it isn't counted as due to WLS. It probably all says heart failure...

I think that when death happens AFTER WLS surgery, it can greatly depend on the person. Some of us have been obese for so long that it is VERY difficult to comply to all of the rules and regulations of such a drastic change. My doctor also stated this fact that if we don't comply AFTER surgery the mortality risk is greater. (This is not counting leakage or any other surgeon related mistakes)

I understand what you're saying too I had a premature birth and my son was doing great, he developed sepsis that lead to kidney and other organ failure yet, his death certificate read, prematurity and organ failure! I found years later after statue of limitations, that sepsis is a "hospital" disease :(

  5. It's a bummer to turn down work, but you might have the same problem getting enough nutrition that so many of us had. Better safe than sorry.

I walked the mall slowly 5 days after sleeving. However, 8 days after sleeving I could not have traveled very far, stooped and bent over doing makeup on people. I lifted a laundry basket about 10 days after surgery (forgot the no lifting rule) and had pain for over 24 hours. Better safe than sorry, let yourself heal. Blessings your way.

for a couple of months after surgery you won't be able to lift over 10 pounds. Take it easy and heal and for future jobs over the next few months, remember the no lifting policy. Good luck. you are going to love your sleeve. The first 2 or 3 weeks is a learning process but after that you will be flying high.

Thank you ladies so much! I'm so excited about my sleeve and my passion!!

  6. I don't know your age or general state of health, but I personally needed every day of my two week leave, and I have a desk job. My first few days back to work were rocky because I had so little energy. I just couldn't get in more than a few hundred calories a day for the first few weeks.

@@IcanMakeit thanks for your response! I am 39 with hypertension. I've read so many post of people going back to work in as little as 5 days! I honestly didn't know what to tell the blushing bride, although I do know that everyone is different, and after reading your response alone, I'm going to turn it down :(

  7. You all have posted great ideas! I wish US the very best of luck in attaining OUR goals! No more taking breaks up a flight of stairs, not taking pictures at all taking face shots only or standing in the back (I'm 4"11!!!) cpap machines, hypertension and diabetes meds, seatbelt enhancers, afraid to go on vacations in fear of not fitting on airplane seats, on amusement park rides, shopping at exclusive stores such as The Avenue, Lane Bryant, Catherine's, Big & Tall, plus size area of any retail store! Here's to normal shopping and SAVING MONEY on everything including health care!

  8. I'm about two thirds of the way to my weight loss goal and am in a bit of a dilemma. Most of my clothes are too big and look sloppy on me now. But when I try on new clothes, I find that I still need to buy plus sizes in tops and dresses. Most of my weight loss has been from my bottom half! And my bosom has hardly shrunk at all. I've been hoping that things will even out as I get closer to goal and intended to wait before getting too many new things in a (hopefully) interim size. But my baggy clothes are starting to get me down. Although I hate spending money on clothes that will only fit for a month or two, I guess it's time to break down and do it. I just wish they made clothes for us apple-shaped women. It seems that most things are made for pear shapes. I feel like starting an apple-shaped women's movement. Hmm. I need a slogan.

There's a forum here where women exchange clothes different sizes and shapes. I can't remember the name, however, they also discuss shopping at various thrift stores and clearance racks until they reach goal. That's a great idea so that's what I started doing.

  9. I got my Cigna approval today! It took a week. October is wedding month, so I scheduled surgery for November 20.

    Congratulations @@vsgchick

I finally got approved and my surgery is scheduled for September 26! I'm excited for the both of us! Congratulations on your wedding too!

Congratulations on your success! Your story is such an inspiration to me a beautiful read for me beginning my new start at life on September 26, 2014. I too have the same story as far as not wanting to do anything, go anywhere, enjoy my husband, family and friends. It's really depressing. I'm looking forward to telling my story and my date can't come soon enough:)
