ssimmons1124 reacted to Taterweight in Pre-Op Diet tips?
If I had it to do over again, my pre diet for the DS would be to count Protein (striving for 90-120 grams) and 64 oz of Water, go gluten free, and wean off sweeteners. I had a preconceived notion that all I needed to do was Atkins after the DS. While this is somewhat true, I found I spent a lot of time figuring out how many grams of Protein was in everything I ate, having caffeine withdrawals, and having super sensitive taste buds that made everything taste sickening sweet. I would have certainly lost weight, been protein loaded for surgery, and been better prepared for recovery and what 120 grams of protein looked like.
Everyone is different though, you need to think about your situation and what your demons are. I'm not a binge eater, but for someone who is, then Portion Control and measuring would benefit you. If your thing is carbs...which is mine...then Proteins are your thing to work on. If you have a sweet tooth, then finding alternatives that are healthy - things made only with stevia, honey, or maple Syrup might help slow down your consumption and make you expend effort for a treat.
Sorry to take your question in a little different direction!

Congrats on your weight loss so far! We have about the same stats.. my all time highest weight in december was 372..as of my last weigh in i was 336, although im convinced i have gained a few of those lbs back over the past couple of weeks. I wouldn't worry too much about what your coworker says. Most people are ignorant about weight loss. I'm pretty sure most people here have went through several yo yo diets, losing a good amount of weight only to gain it back plus more. I know tons about losing weight but just couldn't keep it off, which resulted in deciding to get surgery.

I had mine about two weeks ago and what ever they gave me I don't remember it at all. It's like lost time - I lost about 20 mins - one minute I was talking with the doctor then next I was sitting up in the recovery area.

Hi Everyone! It is finally pleasant in NY so my family and I decided to take a trip to the city. While at Central Park I had the best time of my life. I was able to run around with my 6 year old daughter. We climbed rocks, we rode a carousal, and walked a lot! I was not tired and body felt great! It was just excellent. Furthermore, my daughter took a picture of me and when I looked at it I barely recognized myself! What a great, great day! Before and today. 3 and a half months later.

My best NSV. Was when I went shopping in my all time favorite store Catos and the sales lady told me I needed to go to the other side of the store. Now I can't fine anything that fits on the plus side.

Ahhh "The Easy Way Out" syndrome.
Yeah, tell them they need to go on a 2 week liquid diet, followed up by removal of 80% of their stomach, recover from surgery, start working out, figuring out how to eat with 80% of their stomach all while addressing food addiction and emotional problems.
Yeah, it's the easy way out...
Or maybe respond with something like, "That moment when you realize you thought you had a real friend then realize they judge a decision you made to better and prolong your life...CRUSHED."

Maybe the reason she has not said anything is that it will "change" the relationship. We all have roles in our relationships. I tend to be the wise cracker and make people laugh. I have a friend who is the drama Queen. I have a friend who is the sensitive one. Maybe deep down she is scared you are changing and therefore your friendship will change. Truth is you are changing. Inside and out!
My suggestion is before you go shopping go out for coffee and tell her something is bugging you. Be open and honest with her. If she is the friend that you say she is then honesty is the best approach.

She's probably just very excited about her weight loss and doesn't realize that she's being inconsiderate. Maybe you could address the issue tactfully and say something like, "I'm so happy that you've had such quick success, but I too, am happy with my decision and my success so far. Your support means so much to me." She'll probably get the picture and realize she's not been a good friend. Unfortunately, sometimes we start to feel powerful and judgemental of others and forget how we struggled before. I'd give it a try and if she doesn't change her tune, you might need to see less of her.

Driving to work instead of walking is the easy way out.
Using the washing machine instead of pounding out your clothes in the stream is the easy way out.
Buying your food at the store instead of growing/killing it is the easy way out.
I could go on for days...
Bottom line? I did what's best for me and my family and that's all that matters. I really don't give a flying fart what someone else thinks of my decision.
