Thanks for the replies, everyone. I do see a therapist every Saturday and she and I have talked about these issues. I don't think its depression; I have battled with depression since the age of 3 and this feels completely different. I'm not sad or upset or not wanting to be around anyone at all, I just don't want to be in a romantic relationship. I still love hanging out with my friends, I just am, for the first time, enjoying being with just myself.

What's up guys. Today makes one year post op. I've lost a total of 137 pounds and I still think getting sleeved was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Alot has changed in this year. I'm in a new relationship I will start music Engineering School in April and I've lost my job of 9 years. All these are good things though even being fired from my job. I can't complain it was good to me for 9 years and it helped me get the Surgery so it was well worth it. I love my new life. I work out 3 to 4 times a week. My weight is between 170 to 175. I'm lifting weights and running mainly. I eat healthy for the most part but I still indulge every once in a while (mostly popcorn....inny). One of the best things about being sleeved is being inspirations for so many people around me. I know 2 people who have watched my progress and who have also gotten sleeved. I'm gonna keep up the good fight. See you on the losers bench.

Going home has added some new challenges. Trying to get in the 64 oz of liquid is proving to be a challenge. Stomach has some minor pains for the surgery but other than that counting the days.

Someone else on this forum posted this picture a few months ago that I found helpful. It gives you a visual of how big these different sized tools are. There really isn't much of a difference between them. Remember, smaller isn't always better. There are plenty of stories on this forum of people having stomachs made so restricted that they can't take in any food or throw it up. Your surgeon is the expert, not you. I would suggest you ask him why he would use one size over another.
For those of you asking what a bougie is - its the long thin tool thy put down your esophagus and into your stomach to help guide them where to cut.

I had my surgery march 8, and like all of you, i really worried that i made a mistake. But let me tell you that it does get better, but you have to follow the rules. Get your Protein in, at least 60grams per day. Watch those Protein Drinks, some are very high in calories. Get protein drinks that have at least 20-23 grams of protein in them, and sip on them throughout the day. I usually have three per day, but lately i have been needing less. And drink your Water. Track it. Make sure to get 48-60 oz at least per day. It won't be easy at first, but it will come along take photos of yourself, every 10-15lbs. You will see a difference gradually. Stick to it. We are all on this new journey together !!!

Thanks for all the feedback! I'm going to make a list tonight of all the reasons I'm having the surgery so I can read it when I have buyer's remorse! Off the top of my head:
•I have not been able to lose and keep weight off for 10 years, but I've continued to gain
•I hate sleeping with a CPAP machine - the last thing my husband sees before he goes to bed and the first thing he sees when he wakes up is either me in the mask or me with a red ring on my face from wearing the nose piece all night
•I get winded bending over and climbing stairs
•I want relief for my varicose veins
•I want to prevent diabetes which runs in my family
•I do not ever want to not be able to go on a ride with my child due to my weight ever again

I am a teacher and hope to have my sleeve done over the summer break. I plan to tell no one. My husband knows and is on board 100% with whatever brings me happiness. I do not worry about him being judgmental, and I figure it is no one else's business.

Welcome . Congrats on the surgery date! All I can say is read, read, and read some more. There is so much information on these boards and on the internet in general. Understand that the sleeve is a tool. Understand that you are still in charge of what goes on the fork that goes in your mouth. Sure, you might get full faster, but there are unfortunately people who stretch their sleeve with old habits. Read about everything that could go wrong so you know about warning signs. I didn't like to read TOO much as I am weird and thought I'd jinx myself!
I have a friend who had the sleeve two years ago and I asked her about what she eats and if she still gets full faster. She says she "definitely can't eat as much as she used to." She also described that she can only eat a cheeseburger with half the bun and a kids fry McDonald's . She has regained some of her weight too. Scares me. But it only encourages me to not become "that" person.
Understand that this is a major surgery and you are going to feel like crap the first few weeks! People, especially around here, seem so upset that they don't feel good after surgery. I knew what I was getting into and fully embraced the pain and discomfort. Now in week 3 I feel pretty much back to normal. You will miss food. A lot. But they're what got you in this position in the first place. Always remember that.
Bring your own pillow to the hospital (I forgot mine and was stuck with the flat excuse for a pillow at the hospital). Bring something to entertain you (phone, tablet, etc). Soap, toothpaste & toothbrush, hairbrush. You really only will need the clothes that you wore to the hospital because you'll be in a gown the whole time. I left the next day so I didn't need a shower.
If you have any other questions just ask!

Haha. Dr. Bautista was my surgeon (2007). His bedside manner is lacking, to say the least. He's a great surgeon, but when I go for visits, I only see Jeannine, the NP, or Maya. They are both wonderful and see you as a person.

OK... I'm super excited. I sent in all my paperwork on Friday. My patient navigator was on vacation until today. She submitted my paperwork at 10:30 today and called me at 11:45 am and tells me I was approved by BCBS. Now I'm waiting to schedule everything. Did not realize it would go this smooth. I was terrified at first but now I feel like this is all God's plan. Yay me!!

First, go lock the window. Cmon, that was funny.
Really, just calm down and take a few deep breaths. You are ready for this. You've read up and gone thru the whole pre-op process. Stuck with it thru an appeal for approval. You want this and know it is going to make your life better. You're just letting yourself get too wrapped up in the unknowns. Is it gonna hurt? Will there be complications?? Forget all that. You have no control over it and if there are any issues, you will be plenty strong enough to handle whatever is required to get thru anything. But just think how silly you'll feel when this is over in the blink of an eye with none of the worrisome things swirling around in your head. Close your eyes and think pleasant relaxing thoughts and visualize yourself getting slimmer and slimmer and enjoying all the compliments. It's gonna be over so fast and you'll be home having a hard time even believing you had the surgery. And I want you to come back here with a big smile after to tell me I was right.
Now relax and enjoy all the attention your gonna get in the hospital.
