My RNY Gastric Bypass Surgery My name is Carla! I live in NJ I'm a 35 year old married mother of two. My weight loss journey started in March 2008. My son was one year old and I decided I no longer wanted to live my 300lb unhealthy lifestyle! I wanted to live to be able to see my Son grow and I wanted to be able to play with him and not watch from the side lines. I had my gastric bypass surgery Sept 15 2008. After the usual
Two days in the hospital I was feeling good and diacharged. Only to return to the hospital at 4am in severe pain. I had a leak. Had to do another surgery and recovery was very painful I stayed in the hospital for three weeks. With that being said I would do it all over again. I reached my goal weight of 160lbs within the year. I maintained this weight for 5 years I was a stay at home Mom back then and I worked out full time. 6 or 7 days a week 1 1/2 -2 hours a day! I was determined to make all of my pain purpose full. But as life happened I creeped up to 180lbs and plateau there for months until I got pregnant with my daughter. My weight went up to 230lbs on my date of delivery. With some light exercise, ppd, and anxiety my weight toggled between. 215and 230 until one morning I woke up and the scale said 240! I almost died. I did not come So far to just become morbidly obese again. So on June 1 2016 I began hitting the gym hard again! It's not easy working full time. Caring for my 8year old and 2 year old. And still finding the energy to work out like I used to. But I am motivated to get my old self back. So I have been drinking 2 meals and eating one meal daily for the past week. I have my restriction back! And I'm ready to reach my goals!

I don't know how old you are but us older folks (for the most part) could give two s***s what other ppl think!! You did this to be healthy and keep doing it for you!! Stay on track...natural weight losers probably don't even understand wls let alone all the hard work that goes into it. They feel it's an easy way out!! It's not!! Keep going and prove to yourself how better off you will be!!

Hello Illinois people. I'm in Chicago (the city)!!! I'd like to find a support group, the hospital where I had surgery has a support group that meets only once a month for their patients only.

For breakfast every morning I have a green smoothie. I put banana, strawberries, spinach, Water, and Chia seeds. Sometimes I also add almonds. It gives me some much needed fiber and some liquids as well, and I have plenty of opportunity to get all my Protein in during the rest of the day. You could also add in some Protein powder.
I researched which fruits and veggies have the most fiber. With this shake I get about 17g fiber and less than 150 calories (without the almonds).

Hello MAY members, so I had my Bypass May 19th. So far okay could be worse! I'm already tired of the flavored Protein Shakes so I just got the unflavored kind from GNC. I got approved from my insurance for per made shakes. So I'm waiting for them now. Hopefully I have a better time with them! I have no pain except when I get up in the morning, I'm a bit sore. I'm kinda scared cuz I still can't identify when I'm full or even when I'm hungry! I just eat cuz I have to but not much. Getting my Protein in is very hard for me! The Water though is not a problem especially very cold, I love it!!! Exercising I was told to start by just walking 15mins then start adding to that time slowly! We got to stay positive!!! :-)

Hello everyone! Surgery went very well. Had surgery yesterday at 8am, out of surgery at12noon. In recovery room till 2pm. Taken to my room after that. The pain is not bad at all. They gave a button for morphine and something else. I'm ahead of schedule because I sat up on a chair for about 4hrs and started walking yesterday. Today I get to drink, foley comes out and some more walking! Looking forward to it!!!!! How was surgery for the rest of the #MAY19ers?

Hi welcome! I've got the same surgery date!! There is something about the 19th!!!! I understand how you feel believe me. As the days pass I get more nervous about "the new me". I'm worried about my 2yr old and that he is so attached to me. As for suggestions...... Ask all the questions that come to mind! Also are you signed up for the Insure Nutrition Protein Shakes covered by insurances? Looking forward to sharing this experience with you and all the other 19ers. Do you have a pre-op diet? I start my pre-op diet on Monday. It's a low carb, low fat, & high Protein diet.

I'm doing it alone! I'm a single mom of 2 boys! My "saint of a mother" is taking off of work to watch my 2yr old because he's a hand full!!!!! He is whom I fear the most after surgery:-o!!!! My younger sister was going to go with me but she has court! My older sister wants to go with me but I'd rather her stay with her own kids. I'm positive I'm going to be ok. They only require an adult to pick me up when I'm discharged.

Your putting way too much pressure on urself!!! Don't be so hard on urself! That also affects ur weight loss! Also our bodies run at their own pace! As of me No word yet. I'm not surprised cause I haven't even finished the 6 month supervised diet. Which is why I don't know why my doctor said they were sending in my request for surgery

Omg! I don't feel alone anymore! I had a horrible time with the Lapband. Put in 2007, don't even know what kind it was. 1st time I went to get it filled port was flipped; surgery again! Went to get it filled again band had a leak:(; surgery again!! Fixed!! Had to wait longer to get filled because of possible tissue damage, then what do u know surgeon moved:( new surgeon filled me once. Then my insurance was cancelled. For a year it was fine and I got insurance again then all of the sudden I couldn't eat anything or even drink anything. The band slipped really bad made my stomach to the shape of a mushroom. The new surgeon replaced the band with a new band, it was supposedly an even better band. Yeah rite!!! Got my 1st fill no problem went to get second fill when they checked to see how many cc's was already in the band there was nothing in there! Band leaked out!!!! Doctor said I had to get an upper GI. I was so mad, sad, disappointed u name I had it! My sister and I got it done at the same time and she has never had a problem. I left that place didn't go back. Forward a year or two; I went to another hospital because I was in my 2nd trimester of pregnancy and having complications not caused the the band had to tests done they told me I needed to get the lapband removed because it had slipped! Had to get it removed by the doctor that put it in (2nd doctor which BTW has a god complex). Finally in mid 2012 he removed the band after a couple of months after having my baby! Woo hoo or so I thought! Turns out the self proclaimed wonderful doctor left the tubing inside! In the beginning I had no problem with the tubing, but little by little I started having stomach pain drs were uncertain that it was the tubing because it's designed to be in the stomach. The pain became consistent to the point of not being able to take deep breaths in order for me to breath I had to press down hard on the area of pain . There was no way in hell I was going back to the "god complexed doctor" I decided to go to the hospital where I had my son. I was dying had emergency surgery by the weight lose surgeon "my hero" Which BTW will be performing my RNY if god permits. And here I am......ready for my next chapter!what do u guys think?

Hi, Sophia......., I'm decided that I am going tell ppl when and if they ask me. Mainly because there is nothing to be ashamed of. I know I have a problem and I'm forced to look into and deal with it! Honestly having surgery is only going to prolong my life. I know people including family are going to talk s**t, and I don't care. I'm doing it for my kids and I.

Wow! I'm in Chicago Illinois and the 6 month weight loss program is the requirement for most insurances. 6 months is the average for GBS for my insurance and I feel that's a long time. A year would feel like for ever for me. Lol then again everybody is different.

Omg do I need it!!!! Like most people in sure, I've got so many what ifs in my head along with what am I going to do situations! Like what am I going to do with my 2 yr old when he wants me to carry him, play with him and all the other stuff that comes along with the terrible 2s! He doesn't know what's going on. Insurance? Should I tell people like family, friends and even strangers? And what supplements or what brands should I get? Correct work outs? Recipes.....etc!!!!

Hi I'm Yvette from Chicago I'm a single mom of a 9yr old and a 2 yr old. I had the Lapband in 2007 and had nothing but problems with it finally got it removed in 2013. My surgeon suggested I get gastric bypass, I couldn't agree more. I started the 6 month weight management program that I need to complete for insurance purposes Nov. 2013. I see my surgeon Feb. 25, 2014. So many emotions, thoughts and even things to do before the surgery!
