  1. Well done Nancy, so glad your over the worst, and on the way to your new life. Try not to be too impatient, enjoy the ride. Best wishes from the UK
  2. So fed up. Had two letters in the post. The first is for 11th March for the dietician (second appointment at the hospital) and the other is for the anaesthetist on the 11th April. So I called the hospital, and looks like I won't be on the list until at least June. The reason being everyone successfully coming off the three tier programme (The way ahead programme) and causing a bottleneck. Well!!!!! I feel sooo much better hearing that. Can't find the words to express what I'm feeling, when you're ready, you're ready, and don't want to hang about. Also beyond that the timing now could not be worse.
  3. Jeeps, It's gonna seem like a walk in the park when you've had your procedure. Wow, what a day!!!!!! It's the sort of day where I'd get home and eat..... So, well done to you. And well done for being able to get on your knees, AND getting up again, something I've been unable to do for some time... Keep up the good work
  4. Keep up the good work Nancy Its a real eye opener, reading this. We went out for a meal yesterday, and although I'm only waiting for my next pre op appointment, (not dieting yet) I found myself wondering..... what will I eat? There was nothing much on the menu that I could eat (in the future), without asking for a special order to be made up, almost everything comes with sauce, fried in butter, with lashings of carbs... even the side salad had oily dressing. Not going to be easy, but then if you want it bad enough.......... Good luck Nancy, keep us posted please
  5. Good luck Nancy The beginning of the end. So close now.
  6. To me every emotion is tied to food. I celebrate, go out for a meal, right down to having comfort food when I'm down...... And yeah, I'm eating like I'll never eat again, well, I won't, LIKE I am at the moment. Last supper, breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, and snacks. I'm even getting fed up with myself. I don't know how much I've put on, because I won't get on the scales, but I feel the extra weight. So yeah, it is emotional, you're so right Nancy. But you know we'll get there, so many other people have before us, I've been reading their stories, and found that they've been through all that we are going through. And there will be others behind us too. Getting their inspiration from us. Good luck to you.
  7. Oh no, what an experience, but you came through it, and as you say, best thing you ever did. I hope I'm going to be saying that in the near future. I'm so worried about the timing that I am not at all (yet) worried about the procedure. When you think back do you think you should have gone straight for the sleeve? You've done really well, what was your BMI at your heaviest? I'm on the Isle of Wight, you ? My daughter had the by pass and has since had a double tummy tuck and her boobs lifted, with implants, as there wasn't much left of her breasts after five children and losing 12 stone Oh my , you're so going to enjoy the new you. Good luck and keep in touch
  8. Hi Selena OMG what a lovey man!! You are sooo lucky, lol, to have had Shaw Somers as your surgeon. I had my first consultation (NHS) on January 3td and my next appointment in on the 11th of March. I really need it over and done with (doesn't everyone) as I'm self employed and need to be fighting fit for the holiday season. I think we're cutting it a bit fine here, but I can live in hope, right? When did you have you're sleeve done?
  9. Has anyone here been referred to the Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth Hospitals? Be really great to contact anyone who has, or, is with this team. Hope to hear soon
  10. What an emotional story, and to think us pre opers have all this to look forward to. Inspiring. Well done to you, (and your wife). When we've lost weight before and look in the mirror it's as if the connection between our eyes and our brain has been cut. Much the same as an anorexic, they don't see the weight loss, neither do we. But that's in the past now for you, and yeah, keep up the good work!
  11. Hi Nancy, where I live, in the UK, the new referral system on the NHS includes 'The Weigh Ahead' Programme. This includes seeing a dietician, psychologist (with a referral to the mental health team if necessary) and other professionals if needed for a six month period. If you reach your targets you get referred to Bariatric Surgeons, where you are assessed again. At the time I considered it a nightmare and was thinking self funding. But I must say after coming through that and having my first appointment with the Bariatric Team I feel more equipped for the procedure and my success. This seems to reflect a little of your thoughts. Hope everything works out for you, and yes Leepers is right, the support here is invaluable.....
  12. It certainly seems that everyone on this site has addictions, also that we have had not such a good time in our pasts, or presents. BUT we are doing something about it, that's the important thing to me, also, that I'm not alone here..... You're right, unless you've got it, you don't get it.... You know the comments, you JUST need to eat less and move more, you're uneducated, you're lazy, you're crazy, you're full of excuses. They are NOT excuses, they are REASONS. I'm here not to judge, but to find and give support. Hopefully you'll find the same, good luck to you Nancy, most people here understand totally. X
  13. Hi and thanks for your comments. Not much in way of seminars, or support where I live. More support here. My daughter had bypass and doing really well ( a year ago ) and has lost 12 stone (168 lb) so, you can see why I was disappointed.... However, great to hear your good news, and two of you together, great for understanding and meal times too. Many thanks
  14. Hi everyone, new here, so worried, been referred for WLS, consultant recommending sleeve. My worry is that I have heard that the sleeve is not so effective as the bypass. Want to be healthy, and more active, don't want to fail. Fed up been judged, and a great source of entertainment to others. Anyone have worries???
