Gastrectomies have been performed for over one hundred years. It is only new to being done for WLS. As a previous poster stated you can live with other organs removed as well. I am a RN and have cared for people with no stomach at all.

All WLS requires patients to be responsible for "eating well" post-op to obtain good nutrition. There's no way around that obligation.
I'm 5 months post-op, and I've never been so aware of my nutritional intake as I am now. And not just about Protein and calories, but Fiber, balanced animal and plant Protein sources, sodium levels, etc. I hope to continue my awareness. This is something a lot of people work on, not just WLS patients.

Hi Everyone! I usually don't do much topic starting, but I thought I would share. One of the things I wondered about pre-sleeve is if I was going to be successful. I was the world's WORST dieter. I was even worse with sticking to anything long term. The sleeve has changed my life 100% for the better. Granted, there have been some adjustments that have to be made (like new allergic reactions to foods etc), but I wouldn't change this. I was walking in the mall last weekend and walked by Victoria's Secret. I have never purchased any bras (or anything matter of fact) from in there, my chest was just too big. I thought, what the heck, lemme check it out. I need new bras anyway (semi-annual sale, extra 25% COME ON!!). Let me start by saying I was a 42DD (even a 44DD at times this time last year), so I was a little apprehensive. I still think of myself as big (that still is taking some time to adjust to). I walked out of the store with a 34DDD and a 36DD, And they were sexy bras (too bad I am the only one that sees them lol)! I skipped all the way to the car! Woohoo!! I finally cut up my Torrid credit card (plus size store), and paid off the bill. Victoria's Secret here I come! I've gone from a tight 20, to a size 8/10, size medium/large shirts. The only thing that hasn't changed are my feet.....still an 11, but now I don't have to get wide width calves!
I never thought I would have this opportunity!
Thanks for reading, and have a FABULOUS day!

Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum. I started on the surgical weight loss journey 2 times before. Unfortunately with the nutritional classes on my program if you miss an appointment then you have to start at number 1 all over again I will complete all of these classes in May. This is a turning point in my life and I'm tired of playing games with myself.

@Babbs Thank you for the Urban Dictionary definition - I needed that laugh while eating lunch! Reminds me of the joke we sometimes say...."That's it! I'm taking all of my toys out of the sandbox & going HOME" (in my best Joisey accent).
And before any one complains...I grew up in NJ

Why are so many so self righteous and judgmental? Why do people get so crack ass offended when someone disagrees with their opinion? Why the name calling and the finger pointing? Why the insults and put downs?
    Haters.
    Clique.
    Troll.
    Leader of the Pack.
    b***h.

It's the INTERNET people!! We are NOT all friends, we are NOT all family. We are NOT all going to agree on everything every time. It's a bunch of strangers behind a computer monitor, free to say what they want without repercussion. It's highly unlikely that everything that is said on an internet forum would be said to someone face to face.
    IT'S OK!!!

You don't like me? I'm OK with that. You hate my opinion? I'm OK with that. You think I'm a b***h? AWESOME!! I really don't care.

I have real life friends and family, as I am sure you do. If I make a few friends here, fabulous. If I make a few NOT friends here (I don't do internet enemies, that's silly), fantastic!
Forums are a place for discussion. An exchange of ideas. A place to share your opinion and hear the opinions of others. We learn and grow from opinions that don't match ours. It doesn't mean we have to change our opinion or that our opinion is BAD or WRONG, it's just different.
You hate this place and want to leave? GO!! Don't let the doorknob hit you.
You love this place and want to stay and argue? PERFECT. Glad to have you.

You like to debate? Love it.

You enjoy playing devil's advocate? Great!

You want to call names? You're the problem.

You want to post inflammatory crap and then erase it? You're the problem.
You want to pass judgement on others for living their lives differently than you? YOU'RE THE PROBLEM.
We have an awesome feature on this forum where you block people you don't like. You will never see their posts again. Use it. If you don't like something you've just read, MOVE ON. You replied to a thread and don't want to read any more about the topic? UNFOLLOW. Someone's advice mortally offends you, say so respectfully and move on. You aren't interested in what you've read or you think someone has moved off topic? Don't read further. It's no big deal. You don't like reading the same question over and over? Don't answer. The world WILL NOT stop because you didn't put your two cents in, I promise you.
    .
Take what helps you, leave the rest. No big $*^%$(&%^ deal. Seriously. You can add to the discussion or you can BECOME the discussion. It's really up to you.

A friend of mine told me her worst and it had me
    Shuddering. There was
An attractive man she worked with for 8 years and he never talked to her smiled at her anything. After a year of her weight loss he was friendly. A few years later at a get together a woman who was her size pre op walked by while they were talking. He looks at her and shudders and said how disgusting that thing was. She realize then he couldn't even remember who she was. As he flirted with her. She just sat there a moment then looked at him and said, "you disgust me." And walked away. A lady at the end.

I guess the closest thing to a "bad" compliment I've gotten is when a friend said I look like a prepubescent boy. Once she said it, I realized how right she is.... No butt, no boobs, no hips, flat tummy, and thin, muscular arms. And I LOVE it!

@@Stevehud Its rude and classless to refer to someone as "fat"! There are much better way to comment/congratulate someone on losing weight without using that word! Would it be ok to tell someone who had plastic surgery "oh wow I almost didn't recognize you now that your not ugly!"? The word fat is a derogatory term for most people (especially women). Maybe I just have a little more class than that along with giving a hoot about people's feelings. I know I don't want to be called fat now and I sure as hell won't take it as a compliment later I don't care If it is "true" I'm not "hiding" anything I'm living my life and I refuse to be acknowledge by a size! Oh and Ps: dying your hair is a chemical change not a physical change, so as not to be confused with weight loss!

You need to reread my post. I never called YOU an ass. Please, show me where in the world I have EVER done any name calling on this forum. I "troll the boards" looking for ways to attack you? That's hysterical. I don't know you nor do I give a rat's patoot about you. I certainly don't have the time or inclination to LOOK for you.
I am "forcing you" off the forums? Somehow I doubt that, but if you make the choice to post elsewhere, that's on YOU, it's certainly not on me.
And if your reality is the above, along with having lack of tact and respect for someone else's feelings, more power to you. I would NEVER tell someone I like their new hair/body/clothes better than their old. That's an ugly sort of backhanded compliment -- not one most people would enjoy.

I was sleeved on 7/28/14 and average anywhere from 850-1200 calories a day. My carbs are usually about 60-80 g daily. I workout with a trainer twice a week(free weights/resistance band/cardio) and I've lost a total of 74# since starting this process, about 65# since my surgery. Good luck!
