Hey Valarie, we are almost neighbors, as I live in Leander, almost to Liberty Hill, which is not far from Killeen...going back to work was a little rough, but not unbearable. Honestly the hardest part was smelling the food that one of my clients had catered in! I am not really that hungry, as it has subsided the last 2 days, but I don't believe you have to be to appreciate good/yummy smells... I am just anxious to get healed up and back to normal, because my moodiness is really bad - do you think it's because of little food/nutrients? Best of luck to you and please let me know how everything goes for you!

No worries on typos and thanks so much for the feedback. I will have to look up the shakes you are talking about. I have Premier Protein, which have 30g of Protein - problem is that I haven't been able to finish a whole one at meal time -drink slowly and the thickness and flavor gets overwhelming as I slowly drink them. Thanks again!

Five days post op and a bit uncomfortable today...pretty strong pain on the left side of my abdomen - where my breath catches if I breathe too deep...assuming it's part of the healing process...I'm also working, so that could be part of it. Definitely not getting enough hydration because of drinking slowly and getting distracted with other things...need to work on it....also constipated, which adds discomfort...Very moody, which my family is not happy with...haven't pin pointed why I am acting this way...anyone else have these issues after banding?

Thanks so much for the great advice! I realized today that it is quite possibly just head hunger, as I am adjusting to not needing to eat, which is odd for me mentally....I do believe the biggest struggle I will most likely have is what I am saying to myself, as my BF reminded me today that it is about my attitude that directly relates to my success....
Very thankful for the pep talk he gave me to set me straight!

There are a lot of differences among the different weight loss surgeries, but generally you can talk about the stomach stapling versions versus the LapBand. Here are some things to consider when deciding about a LapBand: It's adjustable to fit your individual needs, it can be removed/reversed if necessary, it has a lower success rate/lower weight loss rate, it requires more post-op care (there will be fill appointments and such, and I'm not sure how much those cost for self-pay). Why did I choose it? Because the though of having my guts rearranged and taken out freaked me out, for one. But I also like the idea of it restricting my food intake. That's what I need, personally. Obviously all weight loss surgery patients have restricted food intake, but if you have something like a sleeve and you overeat too often, your new stomach is going to stretch right back out and you'll gradually just be able to eat more and more unless you have the willpower to get back under control. At least with a LapBand, if I notice I'm starting to be able to eat too much, I can go get a fill before it becomes an issue. It helps you check yourself before you wreck yourself, haha All the more power to the people who are successful with weight loss surgeries like the sleeve, but I just know it's not for me.

I am so glad there are there are other people whose tastes have changed! My dr says there is no reason foods I liked before I won't like now.. My list is easy though.
I'm too chicken to try a sandwich!
Bananas... The smell of them makes me gag
But oh do I miss my bud lite!!! I would love to have a beer! Ice cold... Mmmm.
But when I am really missing something I use to eat I go put on my new jeans... Then my old ones over them!!

Banded yesterday with a hiatal hernia repair. Got home from the hospital today at 4 pm. I'm in pain but the liquid lortab seems to be working. My throat is a little sore from the breathing tube and I just seem to be freezing.

I am hoping someone can relate and talk me through this...I have been excited about my Feb. 14th date until today...I am having an overwhelming feeling that I will fail...I keep thinking that I obviously didn't have discipline before, which is why I am so grossly unattractive now, so how will I be able to succeed once I have this surgery? You have to be disciplined and know it is not the cure all, which realistically I get, but how do I make sure I don't fail with this like I have with every diet my entire life? So sorry for this self pity party...I just feel overwhelmed and have no one to talk to...

I arrived for my banding surgery yesterday, 2/13/14 @ 2:30 p.m. in San Antonio, Texas, and was on the road back to Austin, Texas at 5:30 p.m....I was not nervous going into surgery - more like a kid in a candy store, I was so excited....I lost 7 pounds during 2 week low carb pre-op diet (I was hoping for more, but heck, I'll take it)....the procedure was pretty straight forward - preformed a pregnancy test, took my vitals, and started an IV...the surgeon came in and said are you ready and I said, "More than you know!" - the anesthesiologist came in and gave me something through the IV that made me dizzy, as he said it would. I was wheeled to the surgery room, moved to the operating table, then given the anesthesia that really burned as it went in, again as the doctor said it would....next thing I knew, I was waking up and had some serious gas pain at the top of my stomach, got some Gas-X strips, got up pretty quickly after fully waking, changed clothes, did some laps around the room and off I went....
A little sore today, and a little gas pain, but nothing unbearable - very doable, actually...and I am not taking any pain medication (I could, but choosing not to unless I am just extremely uncomfortable)...I have had VERY little gas pain, if any, in my left shoulder, not bad like some people have had...also slept pretty good last night - propped up with some pillows and woke up only 2 times...
I only have one concern, which I was surprised about yesterday and today.....I'm hungry....my understanding was that I wouldn't be hungry for like the first week after surgery and here I am hungry on the day of and day after so far...of course, I am still doing what I am supposed to do - only liquids, but thought it was odd...any one else have this issue when they got banded?
Overall, a great experience and I am ready for my new banded journey!!

Oh, and I did pre-op bloodwork today too...so it's happening very quickly!!

In all my dieting, the scale moves much slower than inches lost, so I would love to hear the time line of losing your inches and how many, if you all would like to share...

If anyone tries the Metamucil bars to add more Fiber to your diet I will tell you right now. If you don't eat them in small bites and drink a lot of Water behind them you will be in Metamucil hell and back. I seriously had them stuck for at least 30 minutes. Here I am trying to be good and have a diet rich in fiber oh hell I don't care about getting fiber in now. I think the rest will sit in my cabinet for 30 years before I try that feat again. Oh and don't try to eat shredded wheat either because then you will be in wheat hell for sure. I love so much sliming on things that make you feel like a razor blade is coming back up in your throat. Hope you all got a good vision and a laugh. Yeah sometimes even after four years I screw up big time. Lesson learned. Hell no to the fiber.

My reaction was to hold up my hand before they could say more and say, "this is my decision that I didn't come to lightly...I did the research, am confident with my choice and am moving forward with or without your support..." they did back pedal a little when I said that because they new if they said anything else that was negative, it would make them look bad.
I may not be confident all the time and I come to this forum for support, but they don't need to know that!

krps0930 reacted to Redesigned_Curves in One Year Surgiversary
I would be lying if I said it was easy. I am an extremely picky eater...extremely! Very plain "kid food" as my boyfriend calls it I was also a fast eater because I hate cold food so that's something I have really struggled with. I think the hardest part for me was convincing my brain that I didn't need the same amount of food, not that I "needed" it before I am by no means the poster child for good lap band eating so I can't give a lot of advice there as far as what to eat. I know the rules, I just don't like a big variety of food. I changed my eating a little and try to be more healthy conscious, Protein first that sort of thing, but honestly I pretty much eat the same, just way less! I was fortunate, that has worked for me. I can't say I recommend it though because I don't know that it would work for everyone. I have felt guilty at times reading people's stories about changing their eating and still not being able to loose. However, tips I can give, as far as portions control and eating slower are:
*Use a smaller plate and smaller utensils.
*Put your utensils down between bits.
*Don't eat in front of the TV. I think as band patients we need to be very mindful of how much we are putting into our mouth and how quick.
*Eat to be satisfied, not full.
As for exercise, I think this was my saving grace. This was the one thing I felt I could control (since I don't like a wide verity of food). I was extremely fortunate that my company at the time had an on-site fitness center. My boss, aside from our current job, also happened to be a personal trainer and offered to train me for free. After I got into ONEderland I decided to give the C25K program a try and actually completed it. This, aside from the weight loss has probably been one of my proudest accomplishment because I hate running. Hate it with a passion!! So I think that's why it was that much sweeter when I completed it. I highly recommend weigh training along with cardio. I know a lot of times, women especially, tend to lean more toward cardio, but weight training is very important!! Not only are you stronger, but the more muscle you have the more calories you burn! Plus there is the added bonus of the muscle filling in where the fat was to help with that loose skin. It was very important for for me to make working out a habit, a part of life. My hope was that should I ever have complications with my band and have to have it removed, I would be able to maintain my weight better if exercise was just a natural part of my life.
I will say the last 3 months have been the hardest for me. I lost my job of 13yrs due to cut backs and with that I lost my gym access. I've struggled with depression, anger, sadness...all of my eating triggers, but somehow I have managed to maintain my weight. Even though I may not feel it a lot lately... I am truly blessed
