Ken Murphy reacted to shirlann46 in Surgery after 65
Hi, I had gastric bypass October, 16, 2013. I am 66 years old. My only regret is that I didn't do this earlier. I was on 40 units of lantus and metformin twice a day. I took 4 pills a day for hypertension. I'm off all diabetes meds and take only 1/2 of one of my bp pills. I have lost 55 lbs so far and feel 100% better! I have to say I was really afraid to have this surgery, but I knew I had to do something to have a better quality of life. I can now walk without my hips hurting and climb stairs without getting out of breath. It is so worth it! Good luck to all of you who are in your sixties!

Ken Murphy reacted to iamsoworthit in Dumping
I can understand your fears especially knowing you've experienced tachycardia. Not everyone dumps. Contrary to what our drs tell us there are plenty of folks here who've never had it. I have dumped 3 times in 7.5 months. One that was mild and two that were bad. All three times it was because I didnt eat enough Protein. I don't eat refined sugar and stay away from that altogether. I eat fruit every day and 2 of my episodes were on fruit. Both times again because I hadn't had any Protein. One tine was on chobani yogurt the kibd that has the granola that you put in. It was too high in sugar for me.
The true blessing of this surgery for me is I can honestly say I could care less about sweets now and I was a self professed sugar holic. When I would go to a restaurant I would look at dessert first. Now I have no interest. That is a miracle.

Kim, So glad things are looking up. Pam (my wife) got her approval and is going for late March surgery. I should be all ready to help her then. She is being so good now..won't even eat in front of me. Don't think she will have the nerves I have, she will see how it goes for me.

Ken Murphy reacted to clairec in February Surgeries
Hi,
I think that I might have posted something in the wrong place. I will try again. I am new to this forum.
I have a date for the 10th Feb and am one week into my 3 week pre op diet and things are going ok. I have mixed feelings about it all but I just want to get on with it now. I am from the UK but we spend a lot of time in the States. In fact we have our next vacation in Hawaii in May. This seems a bit soon really but we had already booked and we couldn't postpone it any longer. I think we will be fine once we are there but the journeys to and from I think will be challenging that soon. We are very used to the long flights from here, however food and drink will be difficult i think. It will be around 3 months post op so hopefully all will be ok. We want to plan a trip following the Mississippi in the Fall but not being in one place will be difficult, or perhaps not 7 months down the line. I think I will wait and see how it goes before we commit ourselves.
Has anyone else got a date near the 10th Feb?

I've got a Valentines Day date. How romantic me naked passed out on a table (operating table). So ready, but so nervous. Starting my pre-op diet. Started this trip March of 13 weighing 360 down to 317 ready to loose more. ANY SUGGESTIONS?
