  1. Catie: I've been doing well with my loss so I figure I am qualified to give you advice. The things that I do are: coffee w/ff flavored cream from 7 to 9:30 walk 1 mile around 9:30 am oatmeal or cream of wheat for Breakfast around 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Noon - walk 2 miles after I walk I eat one of the following for lunch: Protein bar and half an apple or pear cup of cheerio's or other non-sugary Cereal walk 1 mile around 3 o'clock sometimes I need a snack in the afternoon because I feel hungry at around 4 o'clock and if I wait too long to eat I get awful burps and gas. I have one of those one hundred calorie Snacks or some fruit supper - i eat alot of Weight Watcher smart one's, or a pork chop, or Soup with a few crackers. at night i eat alot of sugar free popsicles i drink flavored sf Water or snapple throughout the day when I can fit it in. I get on my eliptical for about 15 minutes some nights. I do some stretches on my ab lounger too. I probably don't get enough protein, but I'm not going bald or having any other apparent medical issues, so I'm sticking with this for now because it's working for me. I do take a Multivitamin every day. I take two tums for Calcium every day too. I usually eat two prunes to make me less constipated. Good luck. Sue
  2. NurseLaureli: You are living my dream. Congratulations! I started at 26/28 and my goal is to be a size 12, which I think I will be at a weight of 160. Can't wait to join you in size 12. Way to go! Sue
  3. Heidi: I'm 48 too. I am 5'7" and was 324 pounds nine months ago. This morning I weighed 226.6, yeah down 97 pounds! I have alot more energy now than I did when I was heavier, though I didn't get it back until about 3 months after surgery. My feet used to hurt all the time from carrying around this weight. I walk 4 to 5 miles 6 days per week, and my feet hardly ever hurt anymore. I highly recommend the band based on my experience. However, I cannot tell you about long-term results yet. I do attend support group and there are a couple of people there that have had their weight off more than a year, but my surgeon's only been doing the surgery for 2+ years. I hope things go well for you. Sue
  4. Gingerbug: Congratulations. It is amazing, isn't it! It gets harder later on, slows down a bit, but it's still awesome. Sue
  5. Sci Gal: I'm almost 6 months post banding. I don't even notice my port anymore. It's flat, and so is my stomach (at the top only). Give it time, you'll get used to it too. Sue
  6. Ang: I love walking. Get an mp3 player and load it up with your favorites and get moving. I walk 4 to 5 miles per day. I do 2 to 3 individual miles, plus a two-mile walk at lunch time. It definitely gets easier as the weight comes off. Enjoy! Sue
  7. Paulax: I have already done 3 miles so far today. Have a great time at the gym! Sue
  8. Steph: Congratulations! Such a great accomplishment. I'll be joining you in Onederland in April. Good job! Sue

  10. Hi: I suggest that you read alot here on this website and make a list of questions that you may have. Did you go to an informational seminar? If not, I recommend that you go so that you'll be informed. Good luck. Sue
  11. I have a soda about once a week or so. I usually add a ton of ice and stir it with a spoon to get some of the gas out. I don't like it as much as I used to. I got hooked on snapple peach iced tea - yummmmmmmmm! Try it, you may like it if you like sweet drinks. Sue
  12. Liny1074: We're bandmates. I got my band 7/26/07 too. I agree that exercising helps so much. I walk 4 to 5 miles per day 6 days per week. I give myself one day off, or only do one or two miles on that 7th day. I have a great mp3 player and I really enjoy the walking now. I know that in the next few months I've got to start to do some strength training too. Not looking forward to going to a gym, but don't have room for equipment at home. What kind of working out do you do? Sue
  13. Jeremy: Please stick with it. You won't regret it. I had a huge amount of weight to lose, and I'm already more than halfway there and it's only been six months since banding. I dieted for three months before banding because I just couldn't stand the pounds anymore and also because I didn't want to be turned down because my bmi was too high. The pre-surgery diet seems like starvation, but it's meant to give you a big jump start to decrease the size of your liver which makes your surgery safer. I think that the pre-surgery limitations are the hardest part of being banded. It's the only time that I've been really hungry. The rest of the time I've gotten hungry a few times, but it's more like my brain is hungry, not my belly. I believe that Lapband is the safest choice in today's world. I'm thinking that over the next 20 years the scientists and doctors are going to develop the magic solution to obesity. Lapband is the only reversible solution at the current time, so do what is best for now that leaves options open for the future. You're a young person that may see many changes over your lifetime. Please keep the future options open by not making drastic changes to your body now - lapband is minimal and reversible. I hope that the rest of this goes smoothly and easier for you. I recall trying to do lots of things that didn't involve food while I was on the pre-op liquid diet. For me, that meant alot of showers, swimming, and walking. I got bitchy about it, but it's a short-term issue. Take care and best wishes. Sue
  14. Millie: When mine comes it's at the front of my left shoulder running up my neck. It hardly ever happens anymore for me, thank goodness. If I eat too fast, or a bite or two too many it can occur. Sue
  15. Crazycat: How about being very proud of being 48 and not having any wrinkles, losing 80+ pounds, and all of a sudden you get a few wrinkles where your third chin used to be. Don't know which I'd rather have, the third chin, or the wrinkles. I guess because the third chin comes with all of the other crap, I'll take the wrinkles and save up for plastic surgery later on. Take care. Sue
  16. Aubrie: I'm almost 6 months out from band surgery. With the decrease in consumption you can certainly expect alot less "outflow". I have been having some issues with constipation too. I tried Activia yogurt - helped some, but then I forgot to buy it. I think it would continue to help if eaten every day. Second thing I tried is that I eat two prunes every day. Even with this I only go twice a week now, but I'm not very uncomfortable with it. Hope you feel better soon. Sue
  17. You probably need an unfill. My fills tend to tighten as time goes on for the first week to ten days. You need to be careful about dehydration because that can cause serious problems. Please call your doctor and take care. Sue
  18. Hi Everyone:): My name is Sue. I started at 324 and was 230.6 this morning. So, that's 93 down, with seventy to go. I'm thinking that I'll be happy at 160, thinking that I'll be a size 12, but I may want to stop sooner if I get to the magic size 12. Oh yeah, I'm 5'7". I started my journey last April and decided I couldn't stand living in the huge body anymore. I dieted before banding and lost 38 pounds pre-band. I was banded 7/26/07. Most days I love my band. I think I need another fill. I just ate a smart ones frozen chicken, broccoli, ziti (yummy) and was still hungry, and had room for a half an apple too. Too much for one sitting as far as I'm concerned. That's probably why I keep playing with these 3 pounds. Overall my weight loss has been great averaging about 10 pounds per month. I guess I was due for a plateau. I see my doctor again on the 18th. I walk quite a bit. I usually walk 4 to 5 miles 6 days per week. I enjoy walking with my MP3 playing rock'n roll. I find that if I walk to slow music I walk slow, fast music I walk faster. I have an office job, so I need to do something for exercise because I sit on my butt while working. Nice to see the new weight categories on this site. I hope that I picked the right one. I'm probably going to need plastic surgery by the time I finish up, so I look at that thread alot. So much scarier than the lap band surgery - yipes! Nice to meet you and join the 100+ group. Please let me know if I'm on the wrong thread. Sue
  19. Irene: How did you make out with the surgery? It's been a couple of weeks now. Hope you are feeling well. Sue
  20. Jigglepuff: Cute name. Night time is my most trying time too. I try crunching on ice cubes. sugar free popsicles are good too. One of the doctors at my lapband support group recommended these rice crackers that are pretty good too, and I think they're less than ten calories each. Going to bed early helps too. Any activity that didn't involve eating before banding works great after banding. For instance, sitting in the tub soaking with a good book. Long, hot shower. Take a walk if you have the energy as long as it doesn't wake you too much before bed. Good luck. Sue
  21. Tracie: Dr. Glasgow did measure my height and my weight. I know that he did the surgery for someone whose bmi was only 35 because she had other obesity-related issues. I originally went to Dr. Glasgow in April after attending a seminar in March. He sent me for a variety of tests and my surgery was done at the end of July. So, it does take some time. His staff schedules all of the appointments and submits all of the paperwork, so I don't really know how long the BCBS approval took. It was being handled in the background. They're very efficient, professional, and friendly over at their office. Good luck with your appointments. Sue
  22. Hi: I try to eat an easy lunch too because then I have enough time to walk two miles during my lunch hour. A half of a Protein bar and a half of an apple works good. Soup works good, but doesn't stay with me. Instant oatmeal or instant cream of wheat is nice on a cold day. A 1/2 cup of oat Cereal with apple sauce, or some kind of fruit. Leftovers from supper the night before. Good luck. Sue
  23. Tracy: I can't wait to see that sight near my own piggy-toes! Congratulations. Sue
  24. Harmony: I have a ProForm eliptical. I was very fortunate that my Sister gave it to me because she was using it like a clothes hanger. I love it, and hate it. It's very challenging. I've been using it for about 3 or 4 months and I can only do up to 15 minutes at a time. That's progress though because I could only do 3 minutes at first. Good luck. Sue
