    February 2014 bandsters?

Hi everyone! Glad to see everyone is doing so well with their bands. I was banded on Wednesday. Have been on a clear liquid diet since- only broth, water, jello, popsicles, & g2 gatorade. Omg! I'm about to crack! I've never been so ready for a protein shake. Wednesday is my post op appointment. Keeping my fingers crossed for some weight loss... and a FULL liquid diet!

    February 2014 bandsters?

Hello all you lovely February bandits! Just checking in to see how everyone is progressing. I didn't make the February group, but you all are like family so I wanted to share with you all that after playing circus poodle for the insurance company I finally got my surgery date! I'll be banded April 1st. Thanks again for your support on this journey. I love you all. Any tips or thoughtful insite or things you wish you had known before surgery that you care to share would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for everything! ♥

    Where is your port?

I'm so glad I found this forum. I have wondered about this as well. My surgeon (also from Albany, GA, but doing my surgery through his Macon office) also places the port in the chest. One of the nurses in his office (whom he banded) showed me hers and also let me feel it. I can honestly say it wasn't noticeable. I guess it's just the thought of it being in your chest....

Lap Banders with BMI 50 or higher?

How dare she say that to you!!! The first thing the nurse, as well as my surgeon, did once they weighed me and calculated my bmi was to commend me for taking an interest to improve my health. So congratulations and kudos to you for taking the first step! *cue the balloons, streamers, & the band!!!* My starting bmi was 56.2. I'm 5'6". Not once did anyone at the office try to discourage me from having the lap band. As a matter of fact, the nurse was also a lap band patient. She told me she weighed more than I did before she was banded. She's now a little over a year post op, down 100 lbs, & looks FABULOUS! I wouldn't let that negative comment discourage you. Everyone has something to say about all WL surgeries. Talk it over with your surgeon and come to a decision about what's going to work best for YOU. Hope everything goes great for you!

    February 2014 bandsters?

Hey yall! Sorry I've been mia for the past week. I have had a really emotional week. I'm glad to see everyone getting banded and getting excited about being banded. I hope everyone continues to do well. My insurance company is giving my doctor the run around. I've done all the required things they've asked of me and now they are saying I have to be assigned to a case worker and she is going to pretty much advise me of everything that I have already gone through and been told the past 6 months. I'm still playing circus clown for the insurance company, but I'm really starting to get tired of this song and dance with them. Soooooooooooooo.... I'm still waiting on a date. *smh* I don't mean to sound like a brat, but I WANT MY SURGERY DATE!!!!

    February 2014 bandsters?

That's what I was looking at. I think that's the one I'm going to get. It seems to have the versatility I need. My blender died from Bacardi overdose. Bless my lil Myrtle's soul. She went out like a trooper! Yes! I'm in Macon. My doctor has an office in Albany. Who do you go to if you don't mind me asking?

    February 2014 bandsters?

Question... have any of you purchased a blender? I was looking into getting a ninja to help with the protein powder. I tried shaking some up in a bottle... needless to say the result was less than desirable. My mother insists I should get a Vitamix, but I just don't see myself dropping $600 on a blender. Any suggestions?

    February 2014 bandsters?

Hello everyone! Just updating. I was suppose to have my last evaluation appointment Wednesday, BUT since the chaos with the snow (I live in Georgia), I had to reschedule my appointment twice! My wonderful sweet doctor, whom usually doesn't see patients on Friday, made a special exception and squeezed me in this morning. So this morning I submit my paperwork and keep my fingers, toes, & eyes crossed and hope for the best! So I'll be the late bloomer of the group :-)

Pre-op today -Drama in the waiting room!

Lol! Wow... sounds like her band interpretation was headed straight to Ratchetsville. Glad you got out of there. I could imagine the look on the other lady's face. I have a coworker that has been in my ear since day one about why I chose lap band over bypass (cause she did bypass). Like Starfish, I explained how I didn't want my stomach disected like a science project & that, if needed, it was reversible/ could be taken out. You know she went on this rave of "why wouldn't you want something permanent? If you take it off you'll just end up the same size you are now." O_o I had to quickly remember I was at work... The shade of it all!

    Hello !

Hi Pinkylaty :-) I get your concern about emotional eating. That was one thing I learned/realized about myself. I haven't been banded yet, but I'm trying to find ways to cope with my emotional eating. For example, when I use to get upset, Talenti and Famous Amos were my two best friends. Now I grab my earphones and listen to some of my favorite (happy) tunes. After shuffling across the floor for a minute I tend to forget what upset me. If I just absolutely have to put something in my mouth, I try to grab something healthier- grapes, a banana, baby carrots or celery & Peanut Butter and some Water. I'm hoping this helps! Good luck with your band. I'm sure you'll do great!
