Ground turkey, greek yogurt, string cheese, cottage cheese, chicken cooked in the crockpot, tuna, hard boiled eggs, avocado, turkey burger, turkey bacon, salmon, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, kale, chickpeas, watermelon, berries...
pick a Protein and pair it with a veg and or fruit. mix things up to keep it interesting.
instead of sour cream - use non fat plain greek yogurt.
be patient with introducing new foods to your new tiny tummy.
I'm full of ideas - let me know if you need any recipe ideas...I've got a ton!

Zoey716 got a reaction from clenzen in Did You Have Complications After Weight Loss Surgery?
4 weeks after I had the sleeve, I had a small leak that they think happened from a small ulcer that formed on the incision on my stomach. I ended up having a 2nd surgery. It was a bit of a scary ordeal. I had a drain put in, was not allowed to eat for 5 days - but was hooked up to TPN (IV nutrients/lipids), had so many tests and procedures to try and find out what was going on and why. I was in the hospital for 6 days.
About 2 weeks later I ended up back in the hospital with a kidney infection that was a result of not being able to get in enough fluids to flush my kidneys properly. So I was back in the hospital for another 2 days.
With the complications that I did have put aside - I have had a fantastic experience and results from having the sleeve done. I have been very happy and pleased with my results, and have progressed very well. My doctors are all very happy and pleased with my progress. At my 6 month post op appointment I had already meet their 1 year goal for weight loss.
I had a rocky start but am so very happy I had the sleeve done and never have regretted getting it done.

Zoey716 got a reaction from BLERDgirl in Is strength training slowing my loss?
A pound of fat is the same weight as a pound of muscle. The difference is muscle is LEANER than fat. Therefore, even if you don't see the scale moving very quickly - you will see a difference in your clothing. Be patient with this process. ALSO, when weight training, you will continue to burn calories far longer through out the day
I have been weight training - Crossfit - since 5 months post op, and I can honestly say its one of the BEST things I could have done for myself. I have seen a HUGE difference in strength, mobility and endurance.
Make sure you are getting in your Protein (good, lean, organic/grassfed meat), magnesium, and getting in your Water. Watch your carb intake. All of these things together, with your weight training will show results.
Wishing you the best, and if you have any questions please feel free to shoot me a message. I have a degree in Health and Wellness and would love to share/help if I can.

The two previous poster are right. Muscle IS denser than fat and if takes up a lot less space; and the more muscle you have, the more fat you burn! Muscle gives a woman sexy curves. Many women think that they will get bulky and look like a body builder. That is simply NOT true! That type of physique takes a lot of work, lots of calories, Protein, supplements, and awesome genes. I hit goal this past September, but I have really upped my weight lifting regimen since then; and even though I weigh the same today, I am two sizes smaller! Keep it up. Read and inform yourself about various weight lifting regimens and routines. Change it up. Shock your muscles. Increase your weight. Never allow your routine to become stagnant. You are off to GREAT start. Don't stop and I promise you will not regret it!!!

Actually having muscle is much better since muscle burns fat better. I'm proud of you and you are doing an awesome job. Keep up the awesome weight loss. I'm losing the same way. It was faster before the strength training with my trainer but it is better for you body and you will be pleased that you did so.

It's completely normal at this stage.
You have probably heard this but these do work:
SLOWLY sip all beverages. The swelling will subside and it will get easier.
WALK to get rid of the gas. It works better than anything else. Some people also swear by Gas-X.
    Good Luck!

Chick Filet: Grilled Nuggets (I can usually only eat 4) or chicken Tortilla Soup.
    Wendy's: Chili
Chipotle: Kid's meal with meat, double Beans, no rice.

Sub Place: Have them make it on a salad
Panda Express: Small Teriyaki chicken, kid's meal over veggies
    Panera: French Onion Soup
I usually try to carry cheese sticks, almonds, beef Jerky, olives (I have a weird craving for them constantly), ham and cheese roll ups, Protein bars. I'm not much of a fast food person and I hate spending money on something I won't want the leftovers of but that I can't finish.

I was sleeved on 3/17 and NO WAY can I have solid foods yet...and I was told not to cheat/screw around as it could damage the healing process. Your statements scare me...
I have also been very lucky.....no pain, no head hunger, on pureed foods and not feeling deprived at all.....very strange but very happy about it!

Zoey716 reacted to Dr-Patient in FAILED GASTRIC SLEEVE SURGERY
I think I can add to this discussion. I do so without the benefit of seeing the actual report, the actual images, examining you, etc.. Given that:
That it reads: "Mild circumferential narrowing of the mid body,"... it doesn't seem that you had a complete sleeve; i.e., it wasn't done the full length of the stomach. You don't have a "banana"-shaped stomach, a narrowed, tubular-shaped stomach, as you now should.
Get the op note--the "operative report/note"--from your surgeon. See what size bougie he/she used. But it ~seems they left your stomach too big, didn't really cut the full length of it, and only narrowed a portion of your stomach. With that, you likely still have a lot of ghrelin circulating [hunger hormone], and of course, greater stomach capacity. The greater curve of the stomach may not have been excised.
Also get any "discharge summary" --in fact, get ALL your records from your surgeon, to give to your current doctor. And if you have any previous stomach imaging reports, they'd make for a good comparison. Also, there should be a pathology report of your excised stomach portion; it'd be interesting to see its size. Again, request ALL your records from the surgery.
The good news: no abnormalities are noted, and you have lost ~ 50 pounds...though I know you'd expected more pounds lost by now.
Get those records; keep doing what you're doing and see what the new doctor says, and what any future imaging reveals. Keep us posted.

Also poohbear, if you don't already, try to have some definate goals as to what you want to get from lifting. Lift to improve athletic performance, lift to just move heavy weights (numbers), lift for physique, or a combination of the two? From your original post, it sounds like physique and asthetic purposes may be your goals. High volume (many sets/many reps, lower weight) may help you.

Forsythia was all over it! Great post! Don't worry about some tool in the weightroom or someone supposedly judging you. I would be willing to bet that MOST don't really care why you're in there and will not judge you. I don't mean that in a mean way, but if they're in there for the right reason and like me, they are in there to lift and are focused on that and too busy to judge. As for me, if I see someone that's new or has the deer in the headlights look, I'm more than willing to offer a helping hand or give advice that may be able to help. My thought is......"that person in there trying to better him/herself, which is better than not lifting/exercising or being active, so good for them". "Poohbear", don't worry about what people think or don't think of you, especially people you don't even know or care about. It's your life, your body, do what you want. I can't speak for all gyms, but if yours is like mine, people are supportive and just impressed that one is taking upon themselves to lift and be fit. Find a trainer to help you learn or find a weightlifting buddy with experience or do some research to learn or just watch people that look like they know what they're doing. You got this! Feel free to ask me or anyone here if you have questions lifting, we're more than willing to help. It's never too late to start. Wish you the best!
