So sad this happens. If people would do a little research to back up their negative comments on WLS, maybe they could understand better, why we had to make this our last resort. I'am sure many of us on here, are not proud to have had or having this surgery. But, when all other weight-loss options fail, what else are we suppose to do??? Die, at a younger age, than need be? I will be having the Sleeve done on March 6th. 2014. I'am very scared with all sorts of emotions. Easy way out? I don't think so. I want to live a Healthy Life. This is all about me....not what people are going to think.

I say part of losing weight brings with it all the changes and yes even social changes. It's a shame our society is so shallow but it is. Some will have friends who they feel are below them to make themselves feel superior. Others surround themselves with the opposite to try and bring themselves up. Your friend has some insecurity issues that has more to do with her. Focus on creating new friendships that are healthy. Although I haven't lost weight with the RNY over the years as I have evolved and changed to respect myself more I'm realizing some of my friends that I grew up with are really selfish people. I can hardly believe I didn't realize it more back then. It still hurts to grow away from old friends. I'll be interested to hear some of the feedback from other experiences as well. By the way you sound like a great friend anyone would be lucky to have.

Yeah I haven't had any issues with sugar since the beginning. My surgery was 2/27/13.
My nutritionist recommended regular saltines during the soft stage, and chew til mushy.

It's funny how there are a lot of slow losers out there, but we think we're the only ones in this situation. That's what I love about these boards, you can always find support from others in the same boat. Melisa, I sure hope you're right about slow losers being the ones to keep the weight off better long term. That would make us all pretty lucky in the long run. Good luck and God bless you all!

I have Kaiser. I'm able to email or leave a message for my doctors, are you able to do that?
I usually remember questions after I leave my appt. I email. Usually my surgeon's PA gets back with me, but once the surgeon did himself. At my 10 day I'd lost 15 lbs. now I'm 20 days and have lost 2 more. I look at it as 17 lbs in 20 days, none of my diets were this successful. I lost 96 lbs pre-op and was losing an avg of 3 lbs weekly (some 0, some 6). Depends on that time of the month for me too.
Per my surgeon, I'll be very swollen internally for weeks and need to focus on healing, liquids (64 ounces daily) and Protein (60 - 80 grams daily) for at least the first 6 weeks. So that's what I'm doing. I've already had a fainting episode and "over-did" activity, trying to walk to much, too many errands, and I've become over tired and pain increased. I'm reminding myself to take it easy, day by day and weigh once a week and not really count it but every 2. (In one day my weight can fluctuate 3-4 lbs).

Thanks for the suggestion....really appreciate it! It seems that getting at least one high protein shake in a day, even gagging it down, is super important to good heath and weight loss.

I use bean crackers to scoop my hummus but I'll eat it with a spoon (better for mushy stage). When to move on to regular foods you can spread it on Joseph's Protein tortillas, too, then roll it up. My favorite is spicy red pepper or jalapeño hummus. I love spicy flavorful foods!

    Hey there friend. ..
My doc was the same. He saw how genuinely concerned I was and merely looked baffled. He looked me straight in the eye and told me "You will lose weight whether you try to or not. In 18 months time you will not recognize yourself".
It made me realize he is thinking long term and I'm busy focussed on what I think are failures each week. I also needed to focus on the long term, the bigger picture.
Im nearly 17 weeks in after my gastric bypass and I have lost 37 lbs. Im a slow loser but I now have faith I'll get there. It's a massive lesson in patience.
    All the very best :-)

Thank you so much!!!!!! I needed a day to grieve the fact I would not loose like most people. A day to be pissed about it. Although I am mad as hell, these are the cards I've been dealt. Thank you for your support! My doc was almost laughing that I was so upset. He had a student with him and he was telling the student that many patients get emotional because they've experienced a lifetime of diet failure. He was compassionate but sort of found it slightly amusing. I'm starting to wonder if it's because he knows I will lose. That my fears are unfounded. I don't think he could truly know what it's like to eat broth for 17 days and only lose 7 lbs but I will lose. Not like I want but I will lose none the less. After I get out of these restrictive phases I think I'll be a lot better. I want to try to up my protein and exercise. I'm just so weak. I have no energy. On a positive note, I was excited today because I made a scrambled egg and was full before eating all of it. On the liquid phase I was worried I had no restriction but today I realize I do!
Thank you so much for the support!!!!!! Really I appreciate it. Hope your doing well

Trust me, hang in there. Emotionally, I've been all over the place. I feel major embarrassment when I see people I haven't seen in awhile because I think they are expecting me to be so much smaller and 25-30 lbs. on me, only shows a dab, not enough for anyone to say anything and I think people are expecting to say something but when they see me, they don't, because they can't tell. UGH! I can tell in my boobs and a little everywhere. Ok, yes, you have a shit struggle there but your not giving up girl! My surgeon told me yesterday that in a year and a half, I would be to a healthy weight if I simply ate when I was hungry and stopped when I was full. When I eat, chose protein first. That gave me hope. I went into my appointment yesterday(7 wks) totally bummed about my weight loss and panicking about if this is going to work for me. He was a bit of a jerk, but in spite of that, I respect him for his expertise. He told me I should not be worried about the weight loss. Ok, anyway, yes, it's about the weight loss, feeling better, a better quality of life and simply "getting this new lifestye!!!" I started logging my food intake daily on MyFitnessPal.com. I don't care about the calories, only the protein pretty much. It was an eye opener for me. I had only been eating about 500 calories a day and eating less than 10 grams of protein a day; barely taking my Vitamins because they made me gag and no exercise. Because of some wonderful tips and suggestions from folks on this website, I have tried new forms of protein that I can eat and doesn't make me gag. Don't lose hope girl, I will support you! I think I went 3 weeks and lost 2 lbs. That just sucks especially when you are working so hard to be successful! I know for me, I gag easily and had throwing up issues a lot. Just tried eating a Lean Cuisine last night. It tasted pretty good, but threw it up later in the night. But Babybel Light cheese works for me, Dannon Light and Fit Greek yogurt goes down and I started eating Special K High Protein Cereal with unsweetened almond milk(13 grams of protein for both). Anyway, let me know if I can help you. I don't know how to add someone as a friend, I will if you know. Take good care. You CAN do this, we can all do this. We all deserve it!

Hi guys. There are a few threads on here where people are talking about how slowly they think they're losing, compared to others. Of course, we're all different, we all start at different weights and we all do some things differently (calorie intake, exercise etc).
And I don't mean to start this thread so we can compare ourselves to others, that's not the point. But rather, this could be a thread where we can keep encouraging each other and people who are worried they're not losing as fast can see and be reassured they're not alone :-)
I think it's so interesting that our nuts/docs aren't worried and tell us how they've heard it all before and it will happen etc. It's reassuring but also kind of weird - what do they know that we don't? Lol.
I know that if I continue to lose at 1 lb a week, I'll be where I want to be this time next year. I can handle that, especially as I don't feel deprived and I don't feel like I'm dieting.
If you are losing slowly, please know that you're not the only one and please post your feelings :-) Lx

On my stage 3 Tomato Soup is listed as an example with low fat lactaid milk for added Protein. I was shocked it was on there also. I ate only what was on the example menu.
It is strange how many different versions there are.

So many of u know I have been battling a lot of medical issues.
Since my last posting, I had the bronchoscopy. And they are getting the results of it this week! Yay! I will be happy to hear the results!
Today was my long appt! I went and seen Chris (excersize coach), Emily the dietician, and dr Abbott the psych! And the results are.... I have 90 lbs to lose, by their figures, 100 by mine! And Chis says my state of mind puts him at ease with my excersize. (Already bought a treadmill and body media body Bugg to track my food intake, Fluid, calls burnt, and sleep! Then psych said that I am totally ready for surgery! Yay!!!! All went VERY WELL! I left there feeling like a million bucks! Ty FMC BARIATRIC PROGRAM! THey have been amazing with me and my million questions! Lol
So as of now, Monday is my 3rd class of 4, and I have my monthly weigh ins, (til sept) and a 1 on 1 with the dietician, meet with dr Zee! And then I am over the big hump! I'm totally excited that this is going so fast! FMC BARIATRIC PROGRAM also has a monthly support group I am going to join! (Just for more ideas on food, and on life after RNY!)
Guess the old sayin rings true! Good things really do come to those of us who wait!!!

I have good news and bad news news:
Good news - you are 100% normal and right in track
Bad news - it will get worse before it gets better. You have a few more stages to go through and your head is not done torturing you.
    Stage :
1 - what the hell did I do
2 - first stall - usually hits around the first month - people usually freak out a little during this stage. No it does not mean you have failed
No it does not mean you are done losing weight
No it does not mean you are a failure
3 - what the hell did I do stage - again
4 - stage 3 is closely followed by raging hormones. You feel like you are a pubescent teenager. Crying at everything and feeling in the mood for a little "fun" ten minutes later. Please be careful during this stage as we become very fertile.
5 - finally hit your groove. Once you survive all those stages in the first 6 weeks you realize you got this and can get through everything! Oh and that's about the time you get to go shopping!

Sorry for being a whiner......I think everyone is in fear that they will be the exception and not lose weight. I've also wondered if my pouch was made small enough....or if the dr didn't really do the surgery and only made incisions. It's crazy the thoughts and fears that come out. Thanks for listening.
