I get the low fat, low sodium ones. When you are in week 2 and 3 and are just trying to stay hydrated and find something your tummy (and taste buds) will tolerate, sodium isn't a huge worry. My NUT told me not to worry about fat, calories or anything the first month. Just keep hydrated and train your tummy to accept foods. I'm eating mashed potatoes a lot now. Something that is not going to be a part of my diet later on.

I'm on week 3. I used mild salsa and mild rotel so it wasn't very spicy but still good. I couldn't handle the taste of any plain old cream Soups but this has really worked for me. I used the healthy heart low fat soups for all of them and it was great. The canned chicken blends up real easy too.

I made chicken tortilla Soup using cream Soups and blended it to take out the chunks. Was amazing.
    1 can chicken
    1 cup smooth salsa
1 can cheddar cheese soup (or nacho for spicier)
    1 can cream of mushroom
    1 can cream of chicken
    1 can cream of celery
    1 can chicken broth
    1 can Water
    1 can rotel
Season with red chili pepper, salt and pepper to taste
I made this in crock pot and blended before I ate. Very yummy.

I'm trying to get prepared for surgery day 2/6. I'm allowed to have low fat, strained cream Soups starting day 3. I seem to have a mental block and can only think of Cream of chicken and mushroom. Anybody have better suggestions??

For powdered - Try the manufacturers websites, I know unjury and syntrex both have sample packs that can be ordered online or by phone.
For RTD, Try Trader Joe's and Whole food too, assuming those exist where you live.

I've told pretty much everyone and the response has been universally supportive. For those worried about haters, they're really not out there and if you do find one, odds are you would do well to cross them off your list. Both my immediate boss and our Managing Director know about it and have been super supportive. I find their support helps keep me motivated, the other thing I believe is that the more people you tell, the more accountable you are because if you start slipping up, everyone will know as it is not a secret. Bottom line is that I am proud I finally did something for my health and to be here for my family. I see no need to hide that.

I tell everyone. I hold my head up high and happily talk about it. I am proud of the changes I have made in my life. Most people are positive, fascinated, interested or supportive and often it stops any confusion or speculation to just come out with the truth.
We were in the process of selling one house and building another when I had my surgery and when there were legal forms to sign I couldn't sign them within 48 hours of general anaesthetic. On the phone with our banker explaining why I couldn't sign and saying I was in hospital she asked 'what kind of surgery did you have, weight loss?' I was taken aback but answered yes and she shared her own positive WLS story.
I have had mostly positive responses and the couple of negative ones I have had I really don't care about. I have also been privy to hearing others talk about colleagues who have dropped weight quickly and heard the gossip and speculation when people are not honest and open about how they are losing the weight. In my experience, there is more gossip and speculation about those who are not open about surgery but rapidly lose weight than there is about those who are up front and honest about how they are losing weight.
Each person will make their own decision on this about what feels right for them. I do find it odd that a prospective employer asked you though, I have had four staff members who have had WLS in the past two years, and one who will find out his surgery date soon. Not all share it and I would never, ever raise it as an employer but only talk about it when they feel comfortable talking to me. Just not professional otherwise.

Not enough exercise. I do drink Green Tea. Other than that I have been real good on the food intake and fluids end.
24lbs lost preop - not much exercise
26lbs lost 1 month post op - not much exercise
I have accepted another position so my commute per day is cut down by 80 minutes total. I believe I now have no excuse to not exercise at least a little bit daily.

try a powder whey protein in a flavor u like. I get vanilla from Walmart then add chobani Greek yogurt, skin milk, powder and blend this will give u a Wendy's frosty consistency. Or you can buy Unjury protein and they have unflavored protein powder or chicken broth protein powder you can get that kind from unjury.com I suggest buying the starter kit from them for $20 it's a sampling of different favors hope this helps

Try using vanilla shake and adding some sf Jello in your favorite flavor. It thickens the shake and gives it a nice fruity flavor. I buy the small boxes of jello and add about a half pack to a 12oz shake. Want it thicker?? Refrigerate the shake for an hour or so before drinking. I like orange to make "dreamsicle" flavor.

I use unjury - you can buy single serving packs before you purchase a whole canister.
Are you allowed to add any fruit to your shake? The shakes are somewhat of a misnomer - they aren't like a thick milkshake. I found adding some low glycemic fruit (frozen strawberries or frozen berry mix) along with some ice will thicken them a little.
For my 2 week liquid pre-op diet I was only allowed about 1/4 cup of fruit per shake - I laughed when the NUT said that. Now, post op with now restrictions, I use 1/4 cup or less in a shake. I also found that adding 1/2 Water 1/2 1% milk helped with the texture.
    Good luck to you!

You can also call Syntrax and they will send you samples. I think it is 12 samples for $12 plus $1.99 shipping. I got mine last week. The number is 1-866-333-7403. Just ask for the nectar sample kit.

I tried several kinds, pre-made and powder, and the only ones I liked were Premier Protein chocolate. They make a vanilla one as well but to me those had a grainy feel.
And the way I liked the Premier Protein pre-made ones was to keep them in the coldest part of the fridge, and when the need for one came up I'd shake it well then put it in the freezer for 30 minutes (freezer at home) or 55 minutes (freezer at work). The result was still liquid, but had ice shards in it. That's the way they tasted best to me. Sometimes I had to shake it a more than once after it came out of the freezer to get it to flow smoothly.
Keep on keepin' on - you can do this!

    Hey Benny,

From one big burly fella to another, hi-five!!

I can tell you that this was a decision I had to make judiciously as well. When my wife and I did the research and discussed WLS with my primary doctor as a viable option back in July, I kept it to just the three of us. There were two reasons for this: 1.) I wanted to leave myself an "out" if I ever needed to hit the eject button on the process, then I wouldn't owe anyone any explanations (not that I really would anyway)... and 2.) I'm fortunate to lead a pretty awesome social life and have many circles fo friends through the band I play in, an adult wiffle ball league that I founded, and a karate school that I'm a student with. I did not want to subject myself to the mountain of annoying but well-intentioned advice, recommendations, and judgments of others.

As time passed and more hoops were jumped through, I became more comfortable with the decision and the process, enough to let a select few people in on "the big secret". People who sort of needed to know, really. My boss, my parents, my kids, and my very closest friends.

Finally, after my initial surgeon's appoinement about 2 weeks ago, it all became pretty real, and with an insurance approval and subsequent surgery date almost imminent, it was time for me to peel back the proverbial curtain on this whole thing.

And you know what? I have no regrets. Yes, I have a few friends that are baffled why I am going this route (coincidentally, all of them are in-shape gym rats who probably haven't been on this side of the fatty fence a day in their lives), but there were just as many who confided in me that they too have had WLS, and I never even knew! By and large, though, I've gotten so much love and support from everybody, that I knew I made the right call making it public.

It's nice to have a big cheering section when going thru something like this, so I feel very very fortunate.

I'm looking forward to all of these things. I'm just so impatient. I should be happy that I've started the journey and the rest will come. I've already changed so much. I quit smoking, kicked my carb craving, decided to leave the job I hate for the one I really want even though it's less money, I'm tracking all of my food, not letting my sometimes boyfriend upset/mistreat me anymore, and soon I'm moving back to Texas where I really want to be. All within the last month. If I can add patience to this list, 2014 will really be the year of the NSV and SV for me.

I just choose to tell them so when I eat a little bit I don't get the weird questions or stares. And if I do get the questions I just answer honestly. I find that it takes far more energy to conceal the surgery than just admitting to it. This happened when I was with a friend eating as well. He thought I didn't like the food because I only ate a few bites.
