I do not agree with anyone picking on anyone at all, Maybe you should tell your mother the she is making you feel attacked and uncomfortable and that you wished she was more comforting to you. That being said I need to speak to you about this other issue of blame. I gre up in a family that did not care what they ate either. We were never health conscience and I was always a lage child. I never in my wildest dreams thuoght to blame my partents. It is not their fault that they were ignorant to the causes of certain foods. I developed a metobolic disorder over time and that is why I made this decision for myself. I have struggled with my weight all of my life and never once did I blame anyone but myself. The best advice I can give is to take responsibility for yourself right now. You are in charge of you. Sure, When you were a kid what choice did you have? You ate what your parents gave you because you were not thinking about long term health issues because you were a child and I can almost bet your partents diddnt think about those issues either because they probably grew up thinking of food as a way to show love to you. There are many factors as to why they ate like that and fed you that way but I remember one day my Mom said to me "It's pretty bad when you wake up one morning and realize your parents are human". We all make mistakes but you are blaming your parents and wasting precious time being upset when you should be enjoying and loving them. If you let go of the past hurts you will be able to create a more fulfilling life for yourself.

jacileggs reacted to LipstickLady in Biggest surprise/regrets after surgery?
First and foremost, I have never had a single second of regret. Despite the stricture, the constant nauseated feeling I had for the first few weeks (meds fixed that), my inability to drink plain Water (still! almost 2 years out!), and the constant diarrhea (still! almost 2 years out!).

That's all the bad stuff, all completely tolerable as it replaced the constant guilt for cheating on whatever diet I was on at the moment. The gassy, bloated feeling I had from whatever "bad" foods I had gorged on that day. The dread I felt about stepping on the scale.
My size 8 wardrobe has replaced my size 20. Brightly colored clothes have replaced most of the black in my closet. Heels are comfortable now. I may have poop Soup, but I no longer have to wait for the handicapped stall because a regular stall is too small. I was able to do any exercise I wanted before, but now I can exercise without sweating profusely the moment I start, I can breath comfortably, I don't have to stop to "get a rock out of my shoe". I no longer wear capri pants when it's cold outside because they are the only pants I could find that fit. I don't care if my hair and makeup is perfect and I can go out in workout clothes because I no longer feel as if I look like the fat lady who just didn't give a ****.
I can eat in public without being self conscious. I don't feel the constant stares (all in my imagination, I'm sure) when I walk through a mall full of teens. I am no longer the fat mom. Hell, I am no longer the fattest person in the room, hoping someone fatter will show up. (Ha! It's been so long, I've forgotten about that until this very second.) I thought I would miss food. I don't. I don't miss the fat lady stores, I don't miss buying wide shoes, I don't miss the looks when I get on an airplane, bus, train or theater -- you know, that look that says, " PLEASE don't sit next to me!!".

No, no regrets. The little blips on the radar are were all worth it. I am most surprised about how much I was fooling myself when I thought I looked and felt great. Let me tell you, it's was nothing like I look and feel now.

I think posters that have attacked you and claimed you are doomed to failure fo wanting popcorn are wrong, and frankly, need to calm down.
When you return to normal, a little popcorn is fine. I had this surgery to moderate my portions and live a normal life. Those posters who have decided that surgery means living an abnormal life where they can not eat the things normal people eat in normal proportions have every right to make that decision for themselves but it is massively arrogant to assume that making that decision makes the surgery a failure for anyone who decides to have a bit more leeway in their diet.
Yes, movie popcorn is full of salt and fat. Yes, I had surgery so that, amongst other things, going to the movies didn't involve eating a large bucket of popcorn. But I did not have surgery to stop eating things that I like alltogether, and that does not mean my surgery is or will be a failure.
And I absolutely understand where you are coming from with wanting something salty. That is natural - we think of salt as bad, but our bodies need salt just as they need other minerals, so wh you don't get much, you will crave it. I've been there. There are ways to get salt/spice through Soups and other soft foods. But I'm not going to pretend it's pleasant - I hated the liquid and puree stage. I'm at soft foods now, so I had some slices of peppered beef, and it was the best thing ever to have something savoury. So I absolutely get where you're coming from.
The risk with popcorn at your stage (and mine, I'm five weeks out) is that your stomach is still healing, and the popcorn kernels can get stuck in your suture and cause damage or aggravation.
I could lecture you about the fat and salt, and I could lecture you about popcorn being a slider food. But you're an adult and you know that and you can make your own dietary decisions. Movie popcorn is not good for you. I've decided that that will not prevent me eating it in moderation. Life is too short to be obese but it's also too short to not be able to enjoy some treats as well. But I definitely think you should force yourself to stay away from it until your tummy is fully healed.

I have been approved for panniculectomy. It is covered by my provincial health care plan here in Alberta. So it won't cost me anything. Don't have a date yet though. I too am interested in people's experiences with plastics.

Recently rejoined eharmony. I have been single for 14 years. Focused on raising my kids. Now they are mostly grown. I am 36 lbs from goal weight and my self esteem has increased by a million. I dress Nicely again and wear makeup and do my hair nice. I still have a hard time finding men. Not desperate but would sure like to find a decent guy.

When mine were feeling big I replaced them. I mostly shopped in second hand stores until my weight stabilized though. Going from extreme sizes (22 to size 5 for me) is a lot of sizes and can be quite costly.

A woman came into our office. She went over to my co-worker and said. "I see you have a new girl here"
She laughed and said. "No that's Jaci, she lost a lot of weight". The woman didn't believe her. Lol. I've worked there for almost 14 years. The woman was embarrassed and said it was that my hair looked different. My hair was in a ponytail, which it often is. This honestly made my day.

jacileggs got a reaction from amz85 in Accepting yourself loose skin and all!
This is a controversial topic. I am 1year post op and have lost 105lbs. I have an upcoming consult for skin removal surgery. If I can get it covered by my health care plan I will have it done. If not I will likely have it done anyways. It will just take a bit longer for me to save up the money. I don't have a massive overhang or anything. But my skin is very loose and majorly wrinkly. I have been single for 16 years. I have recently found my self esteem and started dating again. Nothing serious but I'm letting that be a possibility in my life. I am not comfortable with seeing my tummy myself never mind have someone else see it. So for me it is the choice I am making. For others it may not be an issue. What I love though is that this site is a supportive place for us all. No matter our choices we have supportive people in our corners, which we don't all have in our day to day lives.
