I am told my date will be in January and have Liver class on the 2nd but ran into trouble not having weighed enough by 7# in 2011. They are going to use weight from January, 2014 to get me through. I am so ready to be able to have the band as a tool to help me conquer weight once and for all. I have struggled since adolescence . This is for my well being but also to set a good healthy example for my Son. I was blessed at 38 with the child I had been told my whole life I would never be able to have. His biological Father is exceptionally large both in height @ 6`5 & I am guessing somewhere between 300-350, with multiple health problems. As much as I want this for myself, I want to lead him to make the best choices possible to keep from going down the painful path his Father and I have felt.
That being said, I am 5 foot & weigh roughly 225#. I know that may sound like a goal weight for some but I have degenerative disc disease, a rare collagen disorder EDS that causes my joints to dislocate. I have to get the weight off these joints, just this year my knee went out I fell down the stairs and broke 5 bones in my right leg. I also have other health issues that can only improve as I go on my journey with you all.
IS ANYONE IN DOTHAN, ALABAMA DOWN TO PANAMA CITY, FLORIDA AREA THAT WANTS TO GET TOGETHER?

People don't understand WLS unless they go to meetings and talk to others. It is not an easy way out. It is a tool that has to be worked with. If your car doesn't have gas and oil, that tool won't take you out of the driveway. If we don't oil our tool and baby it like our cars it won't get us to 80 or 90 or older. My family, both sides, live until 90-100 and I would like only if I am healthy and with my tool The Band, I feel I may make it to 90. My mother is 95, mind is gone but very healthy.
As far as telling friends or family, I only told my very close family before and after the Band told very few people. I still don't like sharing my personal life. I have had people ask why I don't eat more and I say i have plenty of food thank you. I don't share my pounds lost with anyone but my husband. If I told my sons then they would have to lie when asked because I wouldn't share that number. I was huge, bigger than I ever thought, 268 when I started and that number will never be told to anyone.
Yesterday on Wendy Williams, Rubeun Studdard was on and he said WLS is the easy way out. How wrong is that???? All his years of dieting have not been successful. He needs major help and being young, this is the time to get the help, not when you are over 60, like me.
So everyone, I got carried away, sorry. But don't tell people about WLS unless they are your partner in life. After the surgery, then when it is too late, then tell others and tell them off if they don't approve. Your body, not theirs.
Have a warm day. It is very cold in Boston.

the unknown is always nerve wracking .... But read, research and arm yourself with as much info as you can. But most importantly listen to your dr and follow his orders above all else. Best of luck to you!

I agree with terry....take it one step at a time and just remember what AND why you are doing this. It won't be all "peaches and cream" but it is so doable....and I've said this as a reply on other posts...when/if the day comes and you are wondering what you have done to yourself (as I did a day or two after surgery) push through it and remember you did it to better your health, better your life, better yourself.
Follow YOUR doctors orders and relax! And try not to compare your progress to others...everyone is different....as long as you're losing (at any rate) you're losing...and that is the goal after all!
I'm 2 1/2 mos out from surgery and so glad I made this decision...eating everything I want and like just in smaller portions. NO MORE DIETING HERE AND NO DEPRIVATION. It is a wonderful thing.
I am feeling blessed and the results are showing!
Good luck to you...hang in there....don't be a stranger...and keep up posted!

Nervous is perfectly normal. It is your mind's way of working through the unknown. Until you get your band placed and actually start living with it, it is a huge unknown for you and all of the questions in your head, the conflicting emotions, the going back and forth, the what if's... It's all normal.
From the moment I decided that I wanted to have a band, I was rock steady sure in my decision. No second thoughts, no regret. Just the calm surety that this surgery was the right thing for me. My subconscious, however? Bwahahaha!!!! What if? What if I don't like it? What if I miss bags of fish tacos from Del Taco? What if I get a slip? What if someone rags on me for not losing fast enough? What if I get stuck? What if I go under anesthesia and don't wake up? What if Dr. Nirmul gets in there and my liver is so huge I don't get my band? What if? What if? What if? Yeah... Couldn't shut it up. I had to listen, suffer the nervous cold feet of my subconscious and work through it.
It was crazy. Being so sure and ready and yet on that level, nervous and weirding out. In the end, tho, it all worked out. My surgeon went in, my liver was fine, my band was placed, lickety-split. I woke from the anesthesia just fine. I don't miss bags of fish tacos. At least right now. If I do, in the future, I'll deal. Will I get a slip? I suppose it is possible... Again, if it happens, I'll deal. I am going to work to be a compliant bandster so that hopefully, it doesn't happen. I am not going to drive myself crazy worrying about it. I am not worried about what others think about my weight loss. This is my life, my body, my health. worrying about what others think is not on my radar. Life is too short for that brand of f*ckery.
I guess what I am trying to say here is, it's going to work out. Let yourself feel the nerves. They are there for a reason. Validate and work through the feelings. Respect them and practice good self care, but don't let them overwhelm and frighten you. Don't let the natural what if's and cold feet scare you or keep you from your goals.
