Very best wishes for you two. It sounds like you're both ready and, appropriately, nervous about this big change in your lives.
Please let us know how you're doing post-op.
    ((hugs))

I'm two days away from surgery date, start tomorrow on Clear Liquids. Been drinking only shakes for one week and putting a teaspoon of sugar free pudding to thicken it up for a different taste. This week with the shakes only been losing 1 to 2 pounds a day. Scared of the pain afterwards that everyone talks about. But excited for the outcome of all. Getting this surgery cause when my mom was in hospital this last time and doctor said she would not of had such bad health issues if she had not carried around 100 lbs extra her whole life. That made my decision. I don't think of myself fat but a healthy stocky person. But when I'm already having issues like mom I then scheduled appt.

Yesterday was my one year surgiversary of the sleeve. I was so nervous about it, but it was one of the best decisions I've made. I've lost 131 pounds and counting. My foot pain is gone, I'm active and feel great. I've gone from a size 22 to an 8 and actually enjoy shopping now. I'm able to do any activities my kids ask of me. I couldn't be happier!

I can't believe that June 23rd has come so fast. I am ready, but still a good amount of nerves have set in.
I have had SO little in the way of calories and nutrients over the past week. My appetite has just completely vanished on the 2 wk pre-op diet and it has been very hard to intake anything. I've had mostly shakes, and now I"m hoping I haven't ingested so little that i will be in trouble. Good news is today I get to have REGULAR juices, popcicles, etc to carry my blood sugar through tomorrow.
I know that there is a religious board, but there is very little activity on there. I would like to ask those who are so inclined to keep me in your thoughts, prayers and such over the next few days.
I will see everyone over on the post-op board!!!!!

ChristmasJanet reacted to ualaw08 in How i lost 80lbs in 6 months eating anything I want!
Yes that's right! Anything I want! 6 months ago I was absolutely miserable. While eating anything I wanted, I was gaining weight like crazy. My body would hurt and I could not fit any shoes with the exception of loafers. I would plan my my whole day around eating. I would plot how would wake up early just to stop by Dunkin Donuts. There I would by about 6 donut holes and 2 chocolate covered donuts and wash them down with a 20 oz soda. When I arrived at work 2 hours later ( I know, hell of a commute) I would be hungry again and would most likely eat another whole Breakfast or snack. I would down coke before lunch and couldn't wait for 11:00 to come to indulge in whatever the hospital cafeteria was serving. I would cancel meetings some days because it was too far of a walk across the hospital and my feet would hurt terribly or I would be too embarrassed to walk in out of breath. By 3:00, I was ready for a sweet indulgence and when I left, on my way home I would eat McDonald's. If my husband cooked. I would eat again once arriving home. That was my life.
6 months later. I wake up early to make a smoothie made of spinach, blueberries, strawberries and Water. For lunch, I eat a lean and green never eating more than 4-5 mouthfuls (I throw away so much money). For dinner I juice all sorts of fruits and veggies. If I'm hungry in between? Nuts. Do I have something carby from time to time? Yes! Do I have something sweet from time to time? On my way to get frozen yogurt now! Do I eat anything I want? Yes! So how have I lost 80 lbs in 6 months? Because this surgery has made it so that I mostly only want clean, healthy foods. I hate eating out of a bag or box or can. I love colorful foods and fresh foods. I crave them!
This surgery has changed my life! I still have about 50 more pounds to go, but I am looking forward it! New day! New life! New me!

ChristmasJanet thank you so much and best of luck to you as well. I'm on day 4 of the pre-op liquid diet and I keep telling myself this has got to get better lol...I just keep thinking after surgery I won't want to eat so I feel like it will be easier. It's hard having a husband and 2 kids being able to eat what they want. I just smell it all and imagine how good it tastes but how it's not good for me and the hunger will pass after awhile lol

Well I had an avocado and two dilaudid. What a mistake. I feel so sick. My arthritis pain is awful , a 10+ on a 1-10 scale. It was so bad I contemplated going to the hospital. I had some dilaudid pills leftover from a previous surgery and was desperate for relief. I coupled it with my liquid extra strength tylenol and then felt calm and sleepy. Woke up in two hours in pain again. This time I took two pills- 4mg total. I don't know if it was the avocado and pill combination or just the pills? I go to the rheumatologist today at 12:30. I need a painkiller that will not hurt my new little stomach!!!! I just want to feel better, I do not know how people live with chronic pain. I regret not insisting on getter a stronger med at my one week follow up from surgery. I have been in arthritic pain since the surgery. The surgery seems like a walk in the park now. I am sorry for my rant. I hope this can help just one person who has pain issues so that they can have a serious plan of treatment before they have surgery.

Hi Patrick, I am on day 8, days 1 - 3 were pretty tough for me, no complications thank goodness, but tough due to all the meds, sleeping in my lazyboy in the family room because laying flat in the bed was a "Nope!", difficulty getting fluids, etc. It can get to you, but with each walk and every sip it gets better, each day goes by and you feel more human! I drove my self to my 1 week appt, I went grocery shopping on Tuesday! It feels good to get outside and feel the sun (that is saying a lot here in the Pacific Northwest!).
    Two mantras for you:
    Walk, walk, walk!
    Sip, sip, sip!
Hope you are feeling better soon!

I had my revision from the bad to the sleeve yesterday after a 3 1/2 hour delay. I'm so happy the band didn't cause to much damage so my dr could do the sleeve. I started waking 3 hours after getting to my room. Pain is not that bad just sore when I move or first get up. Sips of Water never tasted so good when I was finally able to have again. No issues with it either. Now I'm just looking forward to figuring out my new stomach. Good luck to the upcoming surgeries.

My surgeon doesn't do lap bands any more. I went either sleeve because I knew that a smaller stomach would be an asset for me. Didn't was the gastric bypass even though it would have been covered. 67 and am now below goal. Wish I had it done earlier.

I went with the sleeve because diets are temporary and 23 years of failure was enough for me. I wanted something permanent and I know myself well enough to know that I didn't want to compromise on this issue. I was lucky in that my op was paid for by my insurance so cost was not a factor. Best of luck to you either way you decide.
