Must admit that this is super, deep down, dark secret of mine too. I feel like maybe I've messed up my metabolism so much that now, at age 53, I'll be "stuck" like this.

I've got it in my hand right now and I'm going to read and read till I "get it".....
Thank you, thank you, THANK you all for sharing all of this GREAT information for the those of us in the on deck circle!!

From someone only 10 days post-op~
1~ would not have packed a bag at all for the hospital....stayed in the gown & didn't use one single thing.
2~ that I could ask for a certain pain medication. I got Dilaudid and it was a nightmare.
3~ I wish I could have tasted the chewable Calcium supplements that I ordered online....they taste so bad I had to get something else....wasted money
4~ I wish I would have remembered my old "gym mantra" 'Strong Abs = Strong Back' because, people, WEAK ABS = WEAK BACK....I'm surprised at how much my back is aching.

Try doing puree's early in the day and then liquids in the afternoon and evening. I take 20 to 30 minutes to eat about 1/4 cup of applesauce, mashed potatoes, etc. I could only squeeze in 1 tablespoon of the blended tuna fish I tried today. Dr. Ortiz makes a very small sleeve, so our restriction is pretty strong. Even though I started purée stage 4 days ago, I'm basically still doing full liquids with a small sampling of puréed once a day. And it seems to help if I walk after eating my purée.

Well I'm sure that everyone could answer these questions differently but here's my take:
    1. There wasn't really pain when I very first woke up but over the next couple hours just general soreness. I only asked for pain medicine twice while in the hospital for 30 hours.
    2. Nope, nakey, nakey.
    3. They will help you get there. Using it wasn't as hard as I expected, just lower and raise slowly.
    4. Use yours ARMS!! And support your abs with a pillow. And use you back muscles more, but they get sore so I like my heating pad. And don't BEND OVER to pick things up unless you have to. If so go very slowly.
Yours may be totally different but that's mine.

"I ate like a pig!! I ate up until the moment I walked into the hospital! And look at me today I'm fine!!"
I'm sure you can find someone or even several people that will tell you these things.. But what does it mean?
Does it make it a done deal because others made it through?
When people "cheat" who are the cheating? The doctor? The system? They are cheating no one but themselves. The fact of the matter is this will take some willpower and some personal responsibility.. These are things we need to come to terms with before the surgery because we need them most definitely after surgery.

    Negatives:
    1. I wish I had known that two Fiber chews a day would have stopped all my pain earlier! I'm good to go now. Take fiber!!
    2. I wish I had known how tired I would be the first three weeks. Once past that all gets better.
    3. I wish I had known that I really needed to work on my mental thoughts about food too. I focused on portions. Now 7 months out I have major head hunger. Not really hungry EVER but my mind thinks I should snack all day. Constant challenge
    4. Wish I had known about this surgery sooner. People need to talk more!!
    5. I wish I had known how challenging it really is to wait 30 mins before and after eating
    Pros
    1. I feel amazing
    2. I feel sexy
    3. Happily married but guys consistently gives me looks and it's awesome! Lol
    4. Sex = Amazing TMI sorry, don't want people to miss out on the truth!
    5. Buying clothes is so rewarding
    6. I've saved three friends by speaking up about the surgery and helping through the process - for the surgery because I told them about my experience
    7. My dad is alive and had the surgery after me - he was anti surgery until he saw my success
    8. I enjoy healthy foods that I would have never eaten before
    9. No more blood pressure issues
    10. No more sleep apnea
    11. Size 20 to 6
I could literally go on and on!

I've been doing a lot of reading and there are some good books out there which tell you the truth about all this. I'm scheduled for Jan. 13th. Since I'm self-pay I didn't have to go through the psych exam, but I think it would be a good idea. They should have a class taught by people who've been thru it to warn you about all those things.
