calorie goals early on?
im a year out and they want me at 800-900 per day. at your stage id focus on getting Water and Protein in. you wont have much more room beyond that to worry about getting enough calories or trying to hit a certain amount.

Doctor says he wouldn't let his own sister have rny!
Being a year out from surgery and back pain being my biggest motivation to get the surgery, i can honestly say why didnt i get it sooner? Im pain free and havent taken any pain medication since my surgery. i had severe sciatica, bad hips bad knees and lower back spasms. I have NONE of that now unless i over do it working out. Sounds like the doctor is pushing his religious belief before his medical knowledge. I know on my first visit to my pain doctor he suggested weight loss surgery. *hugs* i know how frustrating getting started is, you can do this !

Female Issue - post gastric bypass
Follow up: Since i post i've had my hormones tested, all fell within normal perimeters. i also have had a pelvic exam and everything looks normal. My obgyn says its common for people who lose a large amount of weight to be more sensitive due to fatty tissue fading from the area and feeling pressure on muscles. As a precaution he scheduled me for a ultrasound next month. Ill keep you posted!

Hair loss
As i hair stylist who is loosing her hair i can sympathise. Nioxin will not stop our hair from falling out due to surgery That product is meant to cleans the scalp of a certain hormone that causes thin hair and baldness. We are losing our hair due to the shock of surgery. It will grow back once our body adjusts. I have found that if you go a lighter shade of color it will mask it a bit against the scalp. or you can buy a powder to apply to the scalp at most beauty supply stores to match your own hair color to camouflage the thinner spots. I started loosing mine at the 4 month mark and im now at 8.5 months. im still loosing but i have noticed i do have a lot of hair that is around 1/2 inch long around my face and bang areas. My doc told me on average it starts to regrow at the ten month mark.

I need an exercise partner
I tried exercising with a buddy. i didnt like it at all. She was more fit then i was and it made me feel bad about myself. So then i started making up excuses not to go to the gym. Now i go alone 3 times a week, the gym has daycare so i take the kids and spend an hour of working out quietly by myself. i find it therapeutic and i can go at my own pace without feeling any pressure. My kids are 4 and 8 and with it being summer they are with me all day long no breaks. Anyone else enjoy working out alone or am i the odd duck ?

Is anyone having problems with low blood sugar as a result of bypass surgery?
I eat every 2-3 hours so mine never drops down, if i get dizzy its becasue my iorn lvls are low. do you go long periods of time between your meals ?
-
foamies
when i get them its because im eating too fast. my mouth over produces saliva and it fills my pouch with foamy spit. i eventually throw it up. not a good feeling at all so i am definitely keeping my meals at a slow pace.

when Is Ok to go outside to walk after gastric bypass surgery?
I'd think youd be ok to walk outside as long as you are not lightheaded or feel like you might trip. i was walking outside by two weeks post op. Its all up to how you feel.

Coffee, Tea or ?
I was told no coffee because it is acidic and can cause ulcers, i did however find caffeinated crystal lite and have been drinking that in the morning instead. doc said one caffeinated beverage a day will not dehydrate so long as im getting my 64 oz in.

Gaining weight
are you eating a lot of salt? might be Water, those fat cells love to hold onto water to save space for the fat to return, it wont however! one day youll go to the bathroom 15 times and drop 4 lbs. this happens to me quite often. Its called whooshing. its what causes the stalls in weight loss.

Anyone have any trouble eating? or breaking the drinking with a meal habit?
The no drinking during meals and half hour on each side is so you wont get hungry again when you flush the food out of your tummy. i follow this to the letter. i follow all doc orders to the letter becasue i dont want my tool to be a failure. Everyone is different with what they can eat, i am 7 month post op and i STILL cannot digest tunafish. its painful, sits in my stomach for a couple hours and then i throw up. i eat mainly chicken from cans so its really moist and make shredded chicken tacos with it,(top with fat free sour cream salsa and low fat cheese!) or buffalo chicken wraps. i can tolerate tortillas really well and they pack well too for road trips in a lunchbag cooler. Crock pot chicken is a life saver as well. I can eat some fish like tilapia (fish tacos !) and swai but nothing heavy like salmon or tuna.

I am new
I had a lot of back/hip and knee pain pre surgery, i was 336lbs. once i lost about 60 lbs i could work out without too much pain. now that ive lost 140 i can speed walk on the treadmill but running still hurts my hips pretty bad and it takes a couple days to recover from it.
