I will be 69 in September...was sleeved May 5th. I am a breast cancer survivor and the results of the chemo, radiation, etc was osteopenia. The bones in my legs really hurt if I walked just getting groceries. I am very blessed and grateful to say...the pain started going away once I lost 20 lbs. I may not live to be an "old" person, but if I do I have made the attempt to make my bones last as long as I do. God bless you and your journey, NorthCoastLady

You new sleevers will feel normal again I promise. I'm 8 wks out and feel really good. The body has to heal and adjust to the new way of eating. Take it one day at a time and follow your Dr's orders. My weight loss is slow but that is ok. Slow wins the race. I've had stalls and figure in a weeks time the scale will move and it does. I'm now allowed to go to Curves and bowl. I've been in the pool since week 4. I can eat everything but sugar and bad carbs.. Take your Vitamins which is very important. You too will feel good one day soon. Take it one day at a time and work through that. You can and will do it. Oh yes by the way I turned 67 last month so you youngsters can and will be back to a new normal soon.

Welcome to AZ. I'm in the NW Valley by Surprise. I would recommend calling Robin Blackstone at Scottsdale Healthcare. I'm sure her office could recommend someone if your situation doesn't fit in their scope of practice. I have found Scottsdale Healthcare to be excellent and would highly recommend them. I know others who live in all areas of the valley and drive to Scottsdale Healthcare to see the Dr's because of their excellence.
Good luck and I hope you love living in AZ as much as I do. I moved here 2 yrs ago from FL.

I had my surgery Nov. 12, 2012 and am 67 now. Just had my one and 1/2 year check up this week and the surgeon's PA was really pleased. All my labs were great, and I've lost over 100 pounds. Reached my goal weight at 13 months and below it but still in normal BMI range so she was happy with that if I was comfortable. Went from 1x or 22/24 to 8P to 12P depending on the style. On my second set of summer clothes as ones from last year are too big. Have a completely new wardrobe, so like to shop sales now and consignment shops. I hated to shop before!!! When I wasn't losing weight, I started tracking again and upped my Protein per the nutritionist. I give myself a 4 pound leeway so I know exactly where I am. Just had 6 weeks of no exercise except limited walking and was able to maintain weight.

Got Prilosec yesterday and it's helped already. I hope I'll be able to stop taking it in time. I think it might be a side effect of the sleeve. Time will tell.
Yes, naps are good and that's what's great about being retired.....taking a nap when I feel like it.
3.5 mo's after surgery all is good now that I have the acid indigestion under control.
Still amazed at the difference in amount of food I ate before the sleeve and the small amount I eat now. WOW

I take omeperazole once daily and I forgot it one day last week and I wanted to die the heartburn was awful and I had to eat tums all day at work! Never had heartburn before surgery and didn't realize I definitely needed the pills till I forgot !

Sherry S got a reaction from LindafromFlorida in 60+ sleevers please help
I agree Linda and I think we're an over medicated society. Dr's give people Rx's to counteract the side effects of previous meds and it's a never ending cycle. I only take synthroid and protonix which will be d/c'ed the end of May.
My BP is normal since surgery and I don't have the joint and muscle pain like I did. Also loosing the weight takes the strain off my heart and other organs.
I hope my energy goes up. I've read that fatigue can last 3 mo's after surgery. I have to remind myself I'm not 40 and can't expect to be full of energy all the time.
I no longer take Aleve and only need Tylenol once in a while now.

Hey April, I have the fatigue also. I'm glad someone posted that her Dr said it can last for 3 mo's or so. There is very little about how long the fatigue can last. I never had fatigue after surgery last this long. This is a MAJOR trauma out bodies have been through and it will take time for it to heal. Also loosing weight puts more stress on our bodies. Taking it one day at a time, taking our Vitamins and following the Dr's orders will work in the long run.
Your right everyone is different and we all heal differently. I got Planters fasciitis 2nd day after surgery. I noticed when I started to walk a pain in my heel. I'm grateful I have an indoor pool to walk in because regular walking can be painful after a short time.

Omg, my sister had that and it was agonizing to walk so I'm familiar with that pain. They made special insoles for her that ended up being just as painful and no help. As she lost it did get better though, so keep it in mind. (((Hugs)))

You can begin the letter with something like "I chose you as my surgeon because (his reputation, etc)." State what you've been pleased with and you want to keep being his patient. But you feel he needs to know... And as a patient, it is very frustrating, disappointing and concerning that... Maybe even make bullet lists of what you feel is wrong or deficient.
Not all doctors are bad guys/gals, though I will say the current lot of physicians (and many of their) approach to delivering care, is pathetic. The system now, however, has caused some docs to feel they don't have time, they don't know what's happening with the front office folks, etc. it's horrible. And sometimes the patients simply need to say this is not appropriate patient care, etc.
I'm sure you'll do a great job. Oh, and do ask for the courtesy of a reply. He'd likely reply anyway, but by specifically asking him, he should feel more pressure because if he is a good doctor, he should want his patients to be satisfied with his care, and that of his practice.
    Good luck.

Sorry about the way your doctors acted. I agree write a letter to who ever is head of the physicians. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. We can't be complacent patients. It's not like it was years ago when Dr's had time and cared about pts. I am very lucky I have an excellent physician who is at the top of her field. I researched to make sure I got a good one. I realize now everyone is lucky enough to have this.
As an RN you know how Dr's can be and you have to be assertive!!!!! It is your life and health. As for your husband he's not being compassionate. Shame on him.
Good luck and let us know how your doing.

It's 1 mo today for me and I"m in a small stall. I have eaten a little bread/mashed pots and a donut. They are slider foods for me so I know not to eat them. Our bodies can't keep loosing weight at a fast pace. Relax and keep doing what the Dr said to do. In a yr you'll be down to a healthy weight and this stall will be a memory. Take one day at a time and enjoy. The scale will move or don't weigh yourself but 1x a wk. Good luck on your journey.
