I am the same as you to a point. I started considering the surgery in 2011. But was convinced I could do it alone. I gained and lost the same 40-50 pounds all through 2011-2012 and in 2013 I hit my all time high of 350. Then my feet and knees started hurting so bad exercise is all but impossible.
I have slight fears. I am perfectly healthy except my weight. What if the surgery causes me to be unhealthy. What if I was going to live a longer life fat than if I developed a complications.
But all in all I am sure of my dcision because, my daughter is only 3 years old. I spent all summer watching her play instead of playing with her. She loves rides and I cannot fit on them to go with her. SHe loves Water parks but I exceed the weight limit for the Water slides. If she were to get hurt or be in danger I could not get to her in a tinley manner.
I know I want this to improve our lives together.

My highest weight was 344. When I started my whole process back in May, I had the same questions you did. Once I met with my nutritionist, she put me on a 1700 calorie plan. I really didn't change how I was eating, just HOW MUCH I was eating. I stopped drinking soda and caffeinated stuff and cut out about 95% of sugary drinks. I am at about 330 now and am getting ready to start my pre-op diet on the 7th for surgery on the 22nd. I was worried that if I lost TOO much or was TOO successful that insurance wouldn't cover it but that isn't the case. I would say talk to your PCP about things you can do NOW until you get an appointment in January, that way you are already implementing healthy eating.

Contact your insurance and ask for the approval criteria. You should be able to find out the coverage percentage also. If they can't help you be persistent until they find someone who can.

4 years ago, before I had a child, I lost 80 pounds in 5 months with diet and exercise. Then I gained it all back plus some. Over the past 3 years I have been losing 40 and gaining 50 off and on. I am so happy that I wil have a tool to help me. One of the biggest reasons for my "giving up" in previous attempts is that I am so tired of being hungry day after day. I dont even remeber what full feels like. I will be so happy to not be hungry

In 2011 i meet an online friends who had rny i thought about it but the timing was bad with the baby and no help
In 2012 i was determined diet after diet, exercise program after exercise program yo-yo'd all year
In 2013 i was frustrated. Gave up for a while, developed a fit problem, and then hurt my knee. Now i can barely walk. Can't play with my kid, can't take her to parks, can't go on rides at fairs and parks... It is bad really bad. I weighed in at 350
Then miracle of all miracles a guy at work who i rarely see was skinny all of a sudden. I asked him about it. He told me he had rny. He tells me which insurance i should pick to make it go smoothly. He inspired me to make the call.
I called the bariatric center and made the appointment for January. My new insurance will be in effect, and i signed up for a hcsa so i will have all the funds immediate available.
I an starting too track my food and weight and eliminate sugar so i can take it all to my appointment in January and prove I'm ready.
My insurance doesn't require a dr supervised diet. I'm hoping it will be an easy approval...

Well, isn't she a b*tch! I'm so sorry you have to deal with her, but it is long past time for your boyfriend to stand up and act like a man and tell his mother to stop her egregious behavior towards you. Now. Permanently.
He needs to tell her (1) he fully supports your decision to have surgery, (2) thinks you are brilliant and strong for taking responsibility for your health and well being, (3) she and her daughter are wrong about it being the easy way out, and (4) he will decide which woman is right for him, not her.
Being an adult means you stand up for yourself and especially for those you love. If he will not put this disrespect by his family to an end, you need to move on because your life will be unbearable if your marry into this family and their attitudes do not change (not just the window dressing either). You will find yourself disrespecting him and resenting the fact that he is not looking out for your best interests and happiness. The mother and personal trainer sister could both stand to be educated about the challenges and rewards of WLS, especially the sister who is in a business impacted by WLS. But the fundamental problem here is not the mother, but her son who is not giving you the respect and support you need (and the love you deserve) by standing up for you--and with you.
All best wishes for you on your journey. You've taken a brave step to secure your future health and happiness. Stay strong and don't let the tiny-minded people dissuade you from your dreams!!
Feel free to print this out and hand it to your BF.

I took the online seminar yesterday and the clinic called me today. I have a PCP visit scheduled for Nov 5 and a pre surgical class for Nov 14. After that my first appointment with the clinic will be in January and by February I will have my 3 month monitored diet complete.

If you can't use an artificial sweetener you probably won't be able to use the syrups alt all. The regular ones with pure sugars are way to high and you will most likely get sick.

wanttodelete got a reaction from PittGuy in Pittsburgh - going to start in January
After years of contemplation, months of research, and finally seeing a coworker get bypass i decided to go for it in January. Going to use hope bariatrics i think. I changed my insurance to anthem bcbs and i signed up for a $2500 hcsa so I'll have the money on January one. I called to make an appointment but its too early. They said call in November.
    I know I'll be approved 5'5" 350ish pounds
Anyone near Pittsburgh thinking 2014 is the year?
