Stopping BP meds?
For those of you who were fortunate enough to be able to come off of blood pressure medication post-op, what was your BP running when the doctor made that decision? Did they wait until it was dipping below normal?

pureed food! baby food?
I was mentally put off by it, but once I started pureeing stuff that I knew I liked the taste of anyway it wasn't so bad. Wound up being tickled just to not be eating something sweet . As for the baby food, I tried a few kinds since I thought it would be easy but all of it was disgusting, even the fruits and veggies!

Struggling w/ post diet
::HUGS:: That sounds about right. I didn't start purees until about day 10 and it was tough then - if it's causing any pain you might want to take a step back to full liquids for a day or two. Otherwise, one day at a time. It definitely gets better!!

I'm kinda disappointed
I don't know if I'll ever LIKE exercise, but I'm coming to find that doing it first thing in the morning (before my brain has a chance to say, "hell no") is helpful. By the time you realize what you did, you're done!

Pain beneath incision
I wasn't cleared to do anything abdominal until I was cleared to do weights at the 6 week mark, but for about the first 3-4 weeks I had pain in a similar spot. Freaked me out a bit, until the surgeon explained that they come in at an angle and the "inside hole" wasn't in the same place as the "outside hole". Still worth calling the doc and seeing what they say, just in case something weird is going on! Good luck to you

Weight lifting
I got cleared at 6 weeks

Feeling hot!
I have no idea, but I wanted to pop on and say, "HI!" to another MD'er . Alas, I'm one of the freezing ones.

Sublingual B12
Thank you all! There are some great suggestions here. As soon as I finish choking down what I have (hate to waste) I've got a good starting point for finding something else.

Hours between doses
How many hours do you leave between things that can't absorb in one go (say, between each dose of calcium)? How about between things that don't absorb well together (like a multi with Iron and the next dose of calcium)? I get all my Vitamins in every day, but sometimes I lose track of time and find myself taking them probably too close together. I'm just not sure what "too close together" actually is, lol.

Counting this as a success
I can't wait to make my own burger - it needs lettuce and tomato, though, so I'm holding out until I'm cleared for raw veggies. Like a treat for going 9 weeks without my favorite food

Cooking for one
One little thing I've found that helps is to pick a grocery store with a great salad bar, and get your fresh veggies from there. It's hard to find them not packed in portions we can't use up fast enough unless you go to a farmer's market or something otherwise.

Pre-op Questions I'm Pondering (I Need YOUR Input)
Absolutely! I was out of control and needed to do SOMETHING. I couldn't do it on my own for 36 years, so whether it works for me or not, I can't regret taking some step to try to live longer. I was surprised by how much it hurt! I honestly thought it was going to be a breeze - I mean, I'd had a tumor and an ovary removed through an open incision a few years ago and practically danced out of the hospital. Did NOT imagine that the one little tiny hole where my stomach came out of would hurt worse than all that, but it did! Please don't let that scare you off. A lot of people come out of this and have pretty much no pain at all.

Counting this as a success
I love McDonalds. And Wendy's (and not for the chili and salads). I don't care what anyone says. I know, I know, it's garbage with no redeeming qualities, but it TASTES good and it's comfort food for me. Tonight, i left work frustrated. Ran an errand for a friend who's being weird right now, then got lost on the way home. I wanted to stop for a burger more than anything you could possibly imagine. I didn't, though. I went home and ate fish. Just wanted to pat myself on the back, lol.

Puree to soft foods transition: Foods/recipes
One of the first things I had was Beans of the not-refried variety (lima beans, if I recall). Ground beef mixed with green beans is a favorite right now. I also wrapped chicken in foil and covered it in a marinade of citrus juices and spices, and cooked it in the oven. It's almost like boiling it in flavor, but it does stay pretty moist that way. At first, tuna salad went down well but chicken salad got stuck. Last week, tuna salad started coming back up but chicken salad goes down great. Who knows, right? But if the tuna doesn't work, chicken might. Ground turkey or pork with some shredded cabbage cooked in and a touch of soy sauce is pretty good, too. Like the guts of an egg roll. Good luck!

Congratulations! That's great progress!

You know you lost weight when
@@IronDruggist, I hit that one this week - so cool! When a 5 year old crawls up in your lap and tells you you're getting smaller, so they fit better now!

Sublingual B12
Thanks! Sounds like I might check out the Nature Made next, then go from there . If only all these other Vitamins could be purchased in sample sizes like Protein powder...!

Sublingual B12
Anyone have a sublingual B12 they really like? So far I've tried Twinlab Dots (tastes like wet dog) and Celebrate (tastes like laundry soap). Trying to hunt one down that doesn't taste bad. Thanks!

Drain
Mine does it to everyone - he said fluid can build up in there and it helps remove that. I understand some doctors leave them in a lot longer, and some don't use them at all, so I don't really know what the reasoning is

I made a mistake .....
So easy to do - especially when you start feeling good and just forget for a minute that you had something done! I did it with a bite of donut at about 3 weeks. Just...forgot. My tummy made certain I wouldn't make that mistake again, at least not with the same food! For what it's worth, bananas were on my "safe" list during purees since they're mushy. Not sure where they fall on yours, but they're probably too soft to do any damage.

Drain
I woke up with one, and they took it out the day I went home. It freaked me out too, I worried a LOT about it. Turns out it wasn't such a big deal. I barely felt it when she removed it, but it LOOKED weird - like a magician pulling scarves out of their sleeves. The hardest part was trying to sit back up afterwards, because I couldn't lay down flat with any degree of comfort for like 3 weeks. Afterwards, they just closed up the hole with steri-strips. That scared me too, since for some reason I was expecting them to have to stitch or staple me up while I was awake, but it wasn't a big deal at all.

Curious -- could you have done it without Weight Loss Surgery?
Not a chance! I was fat my whole life. By the time I was ready for surgery, I was at a point where being so fat for so long made it nearly impossible to exercise and I was always hungry. There needed to be some sort of intervention!
