  1. That's what I did yesterday - pureed a can of white chicken chili. Still pretty lumpy otherwise, but tasted just the same After last night's lime chicken, I wanted something different. Tonight was beef cubes cooked down in the crock pot with a packet of onion Soup mix and plenty of Water, then blended. Between what I have in the freezer now and the ingredients for ricotta bake and refried Beans, I think the rest of the puree time is pretty much covered for me. Everything is frozen in 1 ounce increments in foil wrapped ice cube trays.
  2. Yes, ma'am. My mouth pretty much always tastes like I licked a wet dog now.
  3. Yum! I love those meals that stick with you! Thanks
  4. I could never make up my mind, so I'd get a double quarter pounder AND chicken nuggets AND a large soda AND large fries, sometimes ice cream, and then some. My mouth still wants all that, lol.
  5. Not a race, but I'm scheduled for the Bel Air, MD WalkMS 5k on 4/19/15. I do these every year, but this time I won't finish last!
  6. Oh yeah - and that my nose would run 24/7, not just when I'm full! That might stop when the swelling goes down, but it is weird!
  7. Made some chicken and pureed it tonight. It's hard to get down so I could only eat about a tablespoon of it, but this is my first try with chicken. Anyway, it tasted good so I thought I'd share. Sorry about the lack of actual measurements, I usually wing it in the kitchen. 2 chicken breasts (boneless/skinless) in a baking dish Salt and pepper to taste Garlic and onion powder to taste Cover with dried cilantro (I just sprinkled until there was a lot of green on the chicken) Add juice from 2 limes I didn't add additional water, but wish I would've added a little more to make more juice for blending. Probably 1/4 cup would have been good Cover tightly with foil and bake at 350 for about 40 minutes, give or take. My oven may be off. Good not blended, but not bad blended either!
  8. You look amazing! Congratulations
  9. That they might not be operating on our intestines as sleevers, but it's a good idea to have meds for constipation and diarrhea available when you get home. That recovery could fall anywhere on the scale - you might be prepared for easy and wind up in a lot of pain, or prepared for pain and walk out of the OR dancing. Good to get your ducks in a row so you can handle things either way!
  10. Hi! No opinion on the diet. Still working out what I'm going to put in my face! As for the straws, I understand it's more about comfort. Check with your surgery center, but it's probably not an issue. The Vitamins might be a problem though. I don't think they'd do any damage if we're allowed to have Jello, but compare the list of included nutrients with the types of vitamins that were recommended. You'll probably find some pretty big gaps there and might be missing some important stuff. Have you tried kids vitamins (like Flintstones)? They usually taste better and are complete for post-ops (our center says to take 2 instead of 1 if that's what we use). Anyway, best of luck to you! Looks like you're doing an amazing job so far!
  11. Think your surgeon might give you a pre-emptive prescription for Zofran or something, just in case? You've got to be living in terror at the moment - I know I'm scared of throwing up this early!
  12. They said to not drink bubbly stuff, but the nutritionist also told us that it's mostly because of discomfort and some people do okay further out with flatter soda or using something like a SodaStream and using less carbonation. My friend is 10 years out from a bypass, and drinks soda to bring up gas when she can't burp.
  13. I just discovered tonight that I don't have that pain if I eat standing up - I don't know why. And my max is somewhere between 1-2 tbsp at 10 days. It's such a guessing game, isn't it? I wish you the best!
  14. Just a couple more days - hang in there! I got like a tablespoon and a half of Soup I pureed before surgery (green Beans, potatoes, and hamburger - probably not the greatest Healthwise but it was familiar and went down perfectly)
  15. So glad to have found this topic! I thought I was getting sick or something. The thermostat says 72, my skin says "Antarctica", lol.
  16. Got my winter coat zipped this morning - just 10 days out! I was pretty worried about that one
  17. Bwahaha!!!! This is happening when I get back to work next week!
  18. Delays are so frustrating! But better to know and increase your chances of coming out of surgery in good condition, right? I hope you don't have it, though!
  19. I noticed something today. I've been having stomach cramps / spasms whenever I drink anything (I'd say eat anything, but what I'm eating can be sucked through a straw, so...). Anyway, today I noticed that when i stand up while ingesting anything, it's not as bad. Wonder why that is? And how long it's going to last, because I'm going to look awfully silly standing up eating lunch at work next week, lol.
  20. @@Dreamingofhealth, your urine would get dark, you might go less, and have things like headaches and dizziness
  21. VSGAnn, you might well be right about the tuna - I'll probably try it because I'm hardheaded, but pre-op it was giving me heartburn (it's FISH?!?) and my mother always said it set off her "high-assed hernia". HT, yep, we had the same date! Good luck tomorrow! Every surgeon's plan is inexplicably different. Ours has us on full liquids for a week (I counted it as a week from the day after release, not a week from surgery, since we only got Clear Liquids in the hospital), then 3 weeks of purees, and a month of soft foods. I do plan to start really, really slowly though - I'm nervous about it too.
  22. I'm on day 9, and there were some things that might have been great to have someone around for during the first week, but my support person had something going on and nearly tossed me out of a moving car in a rush to get home when I got released, lol. I'd say at this point, the only thing I need help with is lifting heavier stuff (laundry basket, trash bag, dog food) and getting things that are down on the floor (it still hurts to bend over). But that's what the kids are for, right? Good luck to you!!
  23. Thanks, everyone! I found a tactic that helped last night (or maybe the swelling is just starting to go down some, but I'll take it either way). I used half the Protein and twice the milk - it was super thin, but only 3 grams less than making it the "right" way. Completely counter-intuitive since getting stuff down was the problem, but I was able to finish it without feeling like giant brick. Purees start tomorrow. I'm tentatively planning on pureeing tuna into cream of chicken soup. I don't know why, it's just been in my head all morning, lol.
