The Ghost Sleeve
I used to wonder why people would ask it they were sleeved or not because they are able to eat more or drink water normally. I am beginning to question my sleeve as well. I am 12 days post surgery and on the full liquid stage. I can eat the puddings, Jello's, yogurts, cream of wheats easily and faster than I have read that I should, plus drink 64 oz in a day. Why is this? I am a bit concerned by this and wonder if I'm sleeved appropriately. I thought I would have these feelings and restrictions from taking in large quantities. Just need to learn from others that this happened to or some wise counsel.

Hubby is no help
When I lost a lot of weight on the Atkins Plan, my husband pulled out a pair of jeans that I used to wear all the time. He opened them up and asked whose they were. When I told him they were mine, he was simply astonished without saying anything. If it wasn't me lightening up the air by laughing at them/him/myself, he wouldn't have felt comfortable doing anything. Our loving husbands love us unconditionally and as he has said many times, 'from the tent to the g-string, I will love you the same.' Except now, I don't ever want him lovin' a tent ever again

Little Black Dress....
I am ashamed of my upper arms, so anything sleeveless is my thing. I don't know if I'm going to like my arms when I start losing weight because of my age and skin now, so I'm holding out in prayer that I have some snap back in that area.

Specific friend advice needed! Pic included
You have made an oath to yourself that you wouldn't share the surgery to no one except your husband and mom. However this best friend doesn't know about what you have done. My question is 'why' doesn't she know? She is a 20 'year best friend. Maybe she doesn't want to go through it again with you losing and gaining then losing and... You see. She doesn't know that you have a tool that is helping this time around. There could be some jealousy but you know each other well.

Book on self sabotaging
No you're not rambling. I just think this is a big subject that needs to be addressed. Many of us will return to our old ways due to fear, being sexualized, and self consciousness. If those that face this issue, (me) don't get a handle of it and face it head on we will never succeed and there inlies the problem. That is why I am keeping my psychologist to help me through this once and for all. So good to have a support team with weight loss this time around!

Rome, I have HealthPatrners as well and everything goes fast once you complete the calls. Approval comes immediately after the last call. You are near right about having surgery by mid May. Good luck!

I asked Donna at Southdale for other support groups in the twin cities and she gave me a list. There are two places near my neighborhood and even a call in support group when you can't make a meeting. Maybe find people in your hood that way.

Who was your surgeon and how did it go?

Book on self sabotaging
I agree with most. I think I'm gonna need a shrink for this problem. I don't like getting a lot of physical/body attention. It's tough even for me to say I look good because I was always taught about modesty. Today's society is over sexualized and the hounding and remarks is not great for me. Odd I know.

6 Months and 99 Pounds Lost w Pic
You look MARVELOUS!

Approved!
Yea-yah!!!

Approved but feeling disheartened...
Ummm, I would believe your doctor, PLUS, I think it was rude of the nurse to say that to you because everyone knows that it all about the work that you put into it. The sleeve is just a tool to control input and the rest is up to you. WHAT THE WHAT!!! Congratulation about your approval!

hi BladeFox-been a while. You will do just fine. How much do you want to lose? Do you go to the monthly support meetings at Fairview? They are very helpful too. There are people who are veterans and people still on the fence. Very interesting!! Hi 4theluvof, I am feeling alright about the surgery. I world D like to break past 100 pound lost, that's my goal. I inquired of other support groups so I don't have to drive the distance each month. Donna gave me a list of other groups closer to me. Have you made a decision yet?

Just found out my husband is trying to cheat!
I wouldn't say kick him to the curb, but I would ask some questions. Marriage is worth salvaging, and working on to understand what truly is going on. You also need to ask yourself if you contributed to it. Not saying that he is cheating or if he is cheating that it was your fault. A cheat is a cheat that made the decision to cheat. Just as it is hard work to keep a marriage, it is hard work to fix one too. Do you due diligence and inquire to see if it is innocent or malicious before you move to next steps. Good luck!

Article on CBC News about Mexican WLS
Everyone knows that flying to other countries for surgery is a cost savings. The thing that other medical industries scare us into believing is whether it will be a botched surgery because you go there. There is big, Big, BiG, BIG money to be made here and in Canada in the healthcare industries, pharmaceutical industries and insurance companies so why not keep everything here and scare people away from low cost yet effective surgeries in other countries. I would say to check with other countries reputation just like you do here in the states and in Canada.

Why Can't Insurance Offer a Packaged Deal?
I'm sure many of us have had this same thought. Why can't our insurance company offer the surgery as a packaged weight loss/panniculectomy procedure? They obviously know that many of us will have skin that will hang and become bothersome. They could provide it as a step two only if your surgeon feels it necessary after reaching your BMI goal. There must be something that frightens them away from covering this type of surgery...it's not a tummy tuck only a skin removal. Does anyone have the answer to this question?

Problems Eating
I have heard that you should not eat oatmeal! Also, just liquids and pureed foods only. I would go back to basics with Protein shakes and only do the creamy soups, no meats or veggies in them.

Knees snap, crackle and pop
I have interesting things that go on with my knees and depending on what is going on with your knees (see a specialist) the doctor may not want you to do climbing exercises only walking. I would check first before doing irreversible damage to your knees.

Blurry vision?
Interesting, first I've heard of this.

Told my 17 year old today
I have shared my desires with my teens since starting the process. However, when I told them today when my surgery was, my daughter was the only one that is most concerned because she thought they were going to cut my stomach wide open. My husband and son are concerned but not like my girl, so today we watched a surgery on youtube and she said, 'whew Mom, It seems pretty simple, that helped.' Plus, I treat it with less panic in my tone and behaviors. They want to take off school for the day and I even agreed to that to help them with their anxiety. I mean we are Mom and that's a big deal. See if you can have her watch some videos of the procedures and testimonials with you and see if that helps. Good luck!
