I'm definitely not complaining its just something new to get used to. At times it was a relief to burp and now the fact that I can't even make myself is just different. Lol no burping contests for me!

Hmmm... well I'm 3.5 years out. I do still burp and (well, have gas) lol!! In time I guess my stomach has gotten a bit bigger. Not much mind you. I can eat about 3.4 oz of meat depending the density and maybe 5 bites of something else and I'm content. And I burp afterward.
I do remember having a strange sound coming from my stomach and my esophagus for the first year though. Like a kind of gurgling, but it went away in time.
    Good luck!

Bigbeaz reacted to VSG AJH in I have a 10 month old baby
I am six weeks post-op, and I'm mom to six kids, ages 13, 11, 4, 2, 2 and now 7 months (was 5 1/2 months old when I was sleeved). I'm home with everyone full-time everyday -- we homeschool and don't use daycare or have any family to help. My surgery was on a Tuesday, so my husband took off that day and through the weekend. By Monday, he was back to work, and I was on my own again. We all survived. I wasn't allowed to life and carry my 26-pound baby for three weeks, but by 2 1/2 weeks, I had to out of necessity on a couple of occasions. I could hold him, change diapers for the younger three, homeschool the older three, make meals, do bedtime, etc. I needed help only with the lifting and carrying and at bathtime, but I was otherwise good to go, and the time I needed help was short in the grand scheme of things. Don't be consumed with Mommy guilt. It's okay to take time to take care care of yourself. As of this morning, I'm 47.4 pounds down, and I feel so great! I have 80 or so to go still, but I already feel like I can keep up with my littles so much better. I'm so pleased with my decision! Best of luck in making yours!

I'm almost 10 weeks post sleeve now and although I hadn't realized it until my husband commented on it, I no longer have issues with monstrous belches or gas. I can't even make myself burp like I previously could to alleviate the stomach gases. Anyone else have these results? I'm guessing its because I'm not scarfing down food and I'm also not eating much raw veggies yet.

Went to the doctor today ......great appointment .....Dr. is thrilled with my weight loss 32 pounds in 30 days and was told that the reason I was having so much difficulty with pureed food is because I was not taking my priolosec. Dr. says that I am to proceed on to solid food .....sometimes we called this the mushy phase but he said I cannot use my blender .....I want so much to use it but he said I have to get over the fear of eating real table food..today for dinner I had went to Taco Bell to feed my kids and I got a side order of pinto Beans with cheese it was amazing..... just a few bites and i took my tome and it went down just fine ....I'm so much happier :-)
    Other NSV's
I was definitely told to get the on uninjury Protein just like you folks said
I was told that the changes in taste that I had experienced was coming from being in ketosis
I was told that my sleeve is functioning 100% correctly
I was told that my calorie levels were acceptable
I was told that working out with an excellent thing for me to do and to continue to do as that would support lean muscle mass
I was told that for pain I could take tromadol and I no longer needed to be concerned with ibuprofen if I did not want to
The last great win was that my gallbladder medicine is going to be converted from a capsule to a liquid and Felipe is thrilled!
I feel much, much, much better!!!!!
Thanks for all of the great support everyone!

Speaking for myself of course, hope this helps.
    1. what exactly does the pain feel like right after surgery?
Most of my pain was on my incisions themselves. And I wouldn't call it pain really. It was more like a tightness. Same as with any large cut. I had no internal pain at all. My larger incision was tacked down to my abdominal wall so when ever I tried to sit up or move the wrong way it would pull. But it was more annoying than anything. That eventually released and after that I didn't feel any more pain what so ever. Of course everyone has different pain tolerances, mine happens to be pretty high.
    2. Do they let you wear underwear during surgery?
I was completely nude under my gown. I was extremely worried about this too. I was insecure about having so many people around me while I was completely naked. But once you put your gown on they gave me blankets that I covered up with the entire time I was awake. To answer you question, No. They told me to take them off.
    3. were you have to use the restroom by yourself?
I tried to go by myself about 4 hours after my surgery. Bad ideal lol. I made a mess. I recommend a spouse or family member to be there to help you the first time if you are not sure of yourself. I wish I wouldn't have been stubborn lol.
    4. Is there a trick to making it less painful when getting up or sitting?
I found there was only two ways that I would not be able to feel any discomfort. One was to left my wife pull me up from the couch/recliner and or I would basically roll off the couch and lift myself with my legs and back. After a few days I could gradually get up with no to little pain though. If you take your meds like you should then I don't think the pain is going to be that severe that you will not be able to get up at all.

Bigbeaz reacted to Madam Reverie in Preparation for weeks post op? Advice.
First and foremost - don't buy massive bottles of powdered Protein mix. Your tastes change after surgery and what you could tolerate before, you might not be able to tolerate afterwards and if you've bought in bulk - you're stuck with it. (I know this, through experience)
Same goes for flavours of Isopure, etc.
Get a wide selection of sachets, so you can try all the types in the world and find which one 'works' for you.
Get a heatpad/electric blanket. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. (No carbs can make you feel cold)
Get a few (5) tins of soup/consumme - make 'em bland and lump free at the start. Upgrade to thicker as you move along.
Get a small selection of Jello. Again, you don't want to be stuck with flavours you can't tolerate
Yoghurt - 0% Total by Fage. Its low fat, tastes good and is very good for you.
Get a chewable/liquid Multi-Vitamin. Again, get one packet/small bottle. You don't want to get stuck with something you can't tolerate.
Get a glass/bottle (open topped, not valved) you can drink your Water out of. Know how much the bottle/glass holds, so you know how much you're drinking every day. Or, get an empty 2ltr soda bottle, fill it up with Water and work your way through it every day. Water is very important. You do NOT want to get dehydrated. If you can't handle water, get some crystal light sachets (again, a variety just in case you can't stomach some) and use that to flavour your water.
And a bit of a random one... I found that at the start, I wasn't getting nearly enough Fluid in to 'flush' my kidneys out properly. This made my urine smell a bit concentrated and a bit, well, funky. Consequently, I felt the need to wash a lot (paranoia and hyper sensitive sense of smell post op - which can happen). I recommend some baby/intimate wipes to make you feel 'fresher', just whilst you're upscaling the amount of fluids you drink.
That's it for now.. I'm sure loads of people have loads of other ideas. If I think of anything else, I'll get back to you!

I was sleeved on the 24th of October and I'm down 65 pounds. I started out at 370. I felt the sleeve was best for me because it had minimal side effects and I wanted this to be a permanent life changing event for me. Either way you go I think you are going to drop weight as long as you are motivated to do so.

My worst postop issue was bad diarrhea for the first 6 days. It put me at greater risk for dehydration, but I managed to keep fluids going well enough that I got by. Once that eased up, I started feeling better by leaps & bounds.
I was cleared for all foods at 8 weeks out, and so far I haven't come across any food that I can't tolerate or that I have trouble eating. Having said that, though, it's important for me to remember that there's a big difference between what I *can* eat & what I *should* eat. I choose to stick closely to my postop eating plan, focusing on getting 80-100g of Protein every day & keeping my carbs under about 70g. I don't eat much in the way of potatoes, sweets, bread, Pasta, or rice. When I do indulge, it's generally only a couple of bites after I've already had my Protein & veggies. I'm 6 months out & I've found that my progress so far is keeping me pretty motivated to stick to smart choices.

I told some, didn't tell others. Like one of the first posters, I had a hiatal hernia repair also done, so if someone wanted details that I didn't feel comfortable sharing, I just left it at that. The post-surgery diets are quite similar. It has been fine.
This was a big deal to me before and right after my surgery but now it's not such a big deal. In fact, my father doesn't even really know that I had surgery. (My mother does, and what kind.) But I saw them over Thanksgiving. He looked at my plate and commented that I should put salad on it, and I started with the words, "I'm recovering from an abdomi…." and he said, "Stop! I don't want to hear any details." And that was that.

Now it's starting to look like I've lost weight, and so I'm hearing about that…but strangely enough no one really seems to care much or want to know how. I am still maintaining the belief that knowledge about how I chose to do this is on a need-to-know basis only. My trainers at the gym? Need to know. The 60 volunteers I work with? Not so much.
