What exercise routine do you recommend it's to cold to walk outside?
Seriously. I've been blessed with a house with 5 bedrooms and three full bathrooms. A huge garage that always needs organizing. Cleaning that beast burns mucho calories!!

Mimi is Gonna Tell It! How I Got Over...
OK. So I've seen people use these threads as a mini blog situation so I decided to do the same to keep my stuff in one place. I decided to put my stories among the successes because that where I want to be as well! I just arrived home from the hospital having had the laparoscopic gastric bypass with Dr. Lily Chang at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. PS. That shower I just took are among the top 3 of my entire life!! I started this process in October of 2013 and then my nerves for the best of me and quit. I restarted in February 2014 with physician supervised weight loss program to meet insurance requirements. My weight loss was not stellar but I did what was required of me. I had my consult in October with the surgeon, my nutrition and psych consults in November. I was on the OR table on 1/15/15. They changed my date to the 22nd and then back to the 15th. I had started my pre-op on the 1st because I wanted old habits left in 2014. So I was ready for the surgery either way while they were acting the fool. My experience was thankfully uneventful. She said my surgery was textbook. I am tired and little sore. I've passed a lot a good gas and I feel ultimately like I made the right decision for me even I kept thinking I would back out. I had a great staff at Virginia Mason and had the good fortune of being cared for by women who had been in nursing 40 plus years. Yay Chita!! The drain coming out was the weirdest part. My surgeon keeps all her patients (sleeve or bypass) in the hospital 3 days after this surgery. And I was so thankful for the time to get my head on straight. I'm hoping I can learn from veterans on this site. I'm hoping I can be compliant and stay the course. I'm gonna take it easy. Go for a walk after the game and stay off the scale...lol Good Luck to anyone coming up with dates. You can do it!!! :-)

What excuse to tell your work for medical leave?
I just said, "I need to have a procedure I've been putting off." I didn't have to say anything to my immediate boss but we are friendly (not outside work), so I have her that pat answer when she had to sign of on the paper work.

When will this get better?
It will get better. You need a few more days rest and for your family to pick up the slack. It is shocking but it gets to be about you for a week or two more. I just let myself sit in that hospital and be taken care of...when does that EVER happen???!!!

Surgery tomorrow!
I was in the hospital from Thursday to today. Sunday. I only had energy to use this site from my phone. I'm not a TV person, but didn't feel like movies either. The drugs had me so tired. Talking was exhausting. I was napping a lot the first day, could not entertain anyone. By last night I finally turned on the tube to catch the Whitney biopic. This morning was discharge....

Swelling
I've got no swelling. And they feel normal around them. Keep and eye on that....Otherwise, how are you?

Drainage Tube

@@BLERDgirl! Look at you hooking up the liquid phase! Oh, I'm not mad at you!!! :-) :-) :-)

What's with all the "diet" food?
I think a lot of folks ate a healthier diet prior to surgery. I love vegetables and healthy fats. I'm not a fan of the after taste caused by artificial sweeteners. I think those cab be added back in with the help of a nutritionist. I think the goal would be to do that over time. Something that is not enjoyable will not be sustainable over time. I love to cook. I'm just 3 days post op and I think you can have a lot of healthy protein rich food from scratch. I will be eating more dairy than normal but I think there is definitely room to eat organic and less processed foods soon enough.

Phase 2 / Full Liquids?
I'm not allowed lentils or oatmeal on phase 2.

2 days until surgery
@@lucky2014, let no-one mistake that this is major surgery. From my vantage point, bigger than the sleeve. I unexpectedly experienced quite a bit of pain, but it was well managed at the hospital. Everyday gets easier.I thought I would just pop up and that has not been the case. The hardest parts are getting in an out of bed. I get to leave tomorrow.

My journey is not over but how things are going so far...
Your story sounds similar to mine, except no broken MT or anything. I just had the bypass Thursday 1/15.

January RNY Surgery
thin-for-kidney, there is no way under the sun I was going home the day after. Let those nurses and technicians take good care of you. If you leave on a Saturday. You'll be able to get all your meds. The hospital pharmacy is closed on Sunday and not many pharmacies have liquid oxycodone. Or whatever they will want you to leave on...
-
Smoking...
Are you using for medication or recreation? I would stop and let the doctor know your symptoms....

Old pictures
So glad you are on the other side!

January RNY Surgery
Thin-for-kidney, doing well. Still in hospital. Surgeon is conservative and likes to have all her patients tolerating meds orally. And tolerating a full liquid diet before leaving. I'm like when is the last time I just laid around and relaxed and took care of myself???

Goodbye Lane!
My last "none of my clothes fit. HELP!" panicked shopping trip happened at Macy's. Couldn't bring myself to walk through the door
