HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
NM Sunshine.. I sure understand about wanting to get it done sooner rather than later... I felt the same way in wanting to get it done before I changed my mind and had originally had a date of August 30th, but I would have had to fly in without my hubby and I really didn't want to do that. I rescheduled to a time that we could both go to Colorado in our motorhome.. I haven't changed my mind at all about it, I'm just getting anxious to get it done.. It feels like October will never get here.... I keep reading about all of the success stories here and it just makes me want the band all the more... Before I decided to go to Dr K I was thinking about going to your Dr there in TJ or the one in Monterrey. He is a good Dr and has plenty of experience.... It won't be much longer until you will be a member of the band... Good Luck to you....

Made My Decision, on for Oct 4th with Dr. K
Lafs.... You will really enjoy coming out to Colorado. Blackhawk is not quite as big as Vegas, but is still lots of fun.. Whenever I get over to the Denver area I try to get up there... The trip through the mountains is really beautiful and I am guessing that the elevation is about 8000 ft.. I was considering Mexico too until I found Dr K and I checked him out pretty well myself. I have had my phone consultation with him and he is the nicest man.. I know that I will be in good hands...

Made My Decision, on for Oct 4th with Dr. K

Just joined LBT
Hi Beehive and Welcome to LBT... This is a great place to meet people that feel the same as you and are always ready to help with support... I also had those same worries about eating all the foods I have become acustomed to.. After reading tons of posts and hearing from some of the other ones, I think that if you do just what your Dr tells you to do post-op and let your surgery heal properly, it is my understanding that you will be able to eat what you want just less of it... With the exception of a few foods, like breads which are dry and stick easily... Keep us posted on what the seminar says and when your surgery date is scheduled...

Lets get this PARTY started! Oct 07!
Hi and :welcomeB: Bugalu, Sierra and Lafs... Hey Lafs..... I'm going to Dr K also. My surgery date is October 16th.:clap2: Sierra.... Age is just a number... You are not wasting the money and the surgeon that made that remark should be banned... That is a totally uncalled for comment... I just heard on this mornings news that the weight loss surgery is adding 5 years to your life span. Losing the weight helps with heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, etc... I just read a post from a lady that is 65 and having the surgery because she wants to go to Disney World and do things with her grandchildren.. So, good luck to you and I think it is great that you care enough about you and your loved ones to get in better health... Hey Bugalu... Keep up the good work... It's only a matter of time before the pounds start dropping off....:bounce: For all of us that will be banded in October, a new thread has been started under our groups name the "TENacious TENS". We came up with that name because we are being banded in the tenth month and we are pretty tenacious.... come on over to the other thread and keep up the great postings and support.... :thumb:

How is weight loss for people over 50?
Phyll.. I think you have me mixed up with someone else, because I am the one that lives full time in my motorhome and I am currently in the San Francisco area... My DH and I will be leaving here on the first of October for Colorado and I will have my surgery by Dr Kirshenbaum... MistyMoon... Wow, you sure have been through alot.. Hopefully the lap band will be the last for you. Good luck to you and enjoy those grand babies.... (I've only got 9 and 1 great-grand) Linda.... Now that you are trying harder, I bet the pounds will start coming off faster and your energy level will increase... Thanks from everyone regarding Curves... I've often wondered if it would be a good program to try, but I don't know if I want to commit to a year contract....

HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
NM Sunshine.. Wow, that is a quick surgery date... I see that you decided to go to TJ instead.. Is it closer to you than Colorado? I'm getting so excited about my band.. I went to San Francisco yesterday and I had a hard time walking around. My poor knees and hips hurt so bad.. So today, I'm started walking to see if I can build up my stamina and get my exercise routine started... It's just a good thing that my DH is so understanding when it comes to my walking when we are out..

Anyone in the Denver CO area?
Thanks Tracy.... After all of the wonderful things that has been said about Dr. K, I feel like I'm pretty lucky too...

We are the TENaciousTENS!
That's a good idea about watching the Introductions.. I will keep an eye out over there and see if I can add to our group... Keep me posted on how things went today at the dietition.. I won't have mine until the end of September... I went to GNC and bought some banana creme flavored whey Protein powder. It says on the package to mix with Water but I used milk instead and it is really good.. I also bought some Crystal Light To Go to mix with my water and it is good too... (the peach is down right tasty) So I am trying to get a few things here and there to try out to see which ones I like best for the pre-op and post-op liquid diets... I bought one of those bullets and put a banana in the Protein Powder this morning and it was quite tasty..

HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
Hey Deb... I will be in Denver on the 14th of October and will stay through Thanksgiving, so anytime during the month we are there works for me... As time gets closer maybe we can firm up a date..

We are the TENaciousTENS!
Hi Holly, I'm a proud member of the Tenacious Tens.. Just look in my signature.. Thank you for the encouraging words and I'm ready to go forward.... Welcome Sierra to the Tenacious Tens.. :clap2: I have the same goal weight as you, but I weigh a little bit more... We can all do it as long as we keep in mind that the band is just a tool... It is up to us to stick with the plan and keep our eye on the prize.. (an old saying) Wonder where everybody is... Things for the October bandsters have been quiet for awhile... Maybe they haven't found us yet....

HELLO, any oldies out there? I'm almost 63 and want to live.
Hey NM Sunshine... It would be neat if you could get your surgery scheduled close to mine on October 16th... That way we could be support buddies and could meet each other in person while we are both in the Denver area... Just a suggestion, but I understand how it is once you make up your mind to get it done, you want to get it as soon as you can... It's surprising how quickly things move along once you make that initial call.... Let's us know how things go...

Where does the food stick at??
Hi Mischievous... I have read that in general bread and rice are not really compatible with the band.. They are too dry and since you cannot drink with your meal they get stuck.. Most banders I know of avoid eating those items and pretty much cut them out of their diet... But that is just what I have read. I don't know for myself... Good Luck to you

Anyone in the Denver CO area?
Hi Nichole.. There is a great Dr in the Denver area. His name is Dr Kirshenbaum.. My surgery is scheduled for October 16th. There is a thread started full of Dr. Kirshenbaum's patients and there are 3 or 4 gals that live in the Denver area that have had their bands done by Dr K.. He charges $9950 and that includes everything plus 3 months follow up care and fills.. After that fills are $15.. Dr K and his staff are 1st class in my book... There is a link to his web site at the bottom of my signature for you to check it out... Come on over to Dr K's thread and join all of us there... You can find it by going to the home page and under "Doctors and Hospitals" open that up and look for the thread that says "Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum" there are over 100 pages you can look through or start on the last page and join in the chat... Good Luck to you..

PB and Slime
Wow Mark, It sounds like you are back on track.. Losing 63 lbs is darn good.. I hope that things start going better for you and the PBing and Slime goes away.. I have read on other threads around here that if you go on a liquid diet for 24 hours after a PB and Slime episode it helps calm things back down and helps you eat again.. This is just what I read.. The band is only a tool to help you in your weight loss, the results are up to you... Maybe you can find a support buddy to help you win the war over the willpower issue so you can do your long distance motorcycle riding and make your Dr happy.. There are several threads for the guys that I've noticed while searching around here.. Good Luck to you and keep on keeping on...
