  1. Marty, I agree with you. Besides that they get to see and experience beautiful Colorado. I am to be banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in October and I am sooo looking forward to it.. It is so uplifting to hear such great things about the Dr. you choose to do your surgery. Thanks for the great reference. Be well and take care, Bobbie
  2. I would suggest that you go to the Dr. Kirshenbaum link under 'Doctors and Hospitals' and see what all of Dr K's patients have to say about him. One gal just posted there that she was just banded by Dr K. and she had a great experience... It would be alot closer for you to go to Denver than it would be to Mexico since you live in Colorado Springs in the event something went wrong.. But, good luck to you in what ever you decide.
  3. Welcome to LBT PCracker and tigger.. It is always nice to have new members to the community.. I just joined a few weeks ago and have received some great support and answers to all my questions. I'm sure you will receive tha same warmth from everyone just as I have. I will be banded on October 16th by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado and I'm really looking forward to it, but I also wonder about doing the two week liquid diet. Hopefully someone who has gone through it will answer your question. Good luck
  4. Hello and Welcome, I am another one who is waiting to be banded and can't help much with your questions.. But you mention something about Colorado Dr's and I am going to Dr. Kirshenbaum in the Denver area to have my band done. I am self pay and was looking at going to Mexico too. He comes highly recommended and his charges are $9950 for every thing and 3 months aftercare and fills. He charges a little bit more than the Mexico Dr's, but I like the fact that he is in the US and only charges $15 for fills you may need later.. I've heard other Dr's charge about $100 to $150 per fill and some also charge an up front fee as well.. There is a thread started with Dr. K's patients under 'Doctors and Hospitals' from the main page and a link to his web site in my signature... Good luck in what ever you decide..
  5. Christy, Welcome to LBT and congratulations on your weight loss so far. Just curious as to what Dr you went to for your band? It sounds like you are doing well after your surgery. Best Wishes for continued weight loss and good health.
  6. I have my surgery scheduled with Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, Colorado. He and his staff are very nice to work with and he only charges $9950 for everything including 3 months post op. I am also self pay and was considering going to Mexico but changed my mind when I found Dr K. I also like the idea that he is in the United States. Good luck on your decision.
  7. Hi Telecia, I'm not as big as you are, but I really admire your trying to stay with weight loss for as long as you have. Hopefully you won't have to run through too much red tape with Medicade and can get your band quickly. Good luck to you and God Bless
  8. Very good article... I wonder if anyone that takes a daily mulitple vitamin has any problems with hair loss???
  9. Congratulations to both of you!! You two are truly an inspiration to all of us.
  10. I have COPD/Emphysema and will be having LB surgery on October 16th. I would like to hear from others that have COPD and if the weight loss has helped any with your breathing and energy levels. My primary physician says that my big stomach is keeping my lungs from expanding to full capacity by pushing up against my diagraphm. I am hoping that weight loss will help with my shortness of breath and energy levels. I know that I won't ever get full function back of my lungs, but I would like to have the ability to breath a little bit better and have a higher energy level so I can do things with my grandchildren that I cannot do now. Or, perhaps I am just dreaming of things that cannot be. It would be nice to hear from others and their experiences.
  11. I want to thank everyone who posted to my thread. I appreciate all of your help and letting me know about your experiences. I have finally decided to go to Denver and have Dr Kirshenbaum do my surgery. Thanks marjon for the referral and web link. I figured it would be much easier to go there since I am from Colorado and give me the opportunity to see all my family and friends. So, thanks again to all of you.
  12. Hi nume130, I understand about your other angers. I am the same way.The intimacy thing is just a part of it. After all 12 years without any kind of affection, it tends to bring on all kinds of anger and depression. I am so tired of being fat, angry and depressed. I am missing out on so much in life with things the way they are right now. I can hardly wait to get banded and at least get my weight under control.
  13. Sex, intimacy, cuddling, what's that?? It has been 12 years (yep, years) since our last sexual encounter, so I have just worked my way into fatland. I can tell you that I have built up alot of anger from all of the rejections and not tonight's, that even if he offered it to me on a silver platter I would walk away. I've lost all interest and desire. Sorry, I don't mean to sound harsh. Just frustrated. Thank you all for letting me vent.
  14. Congratulations Sandy on being a breast cancer survivor!! I really don't have an answer to your question, but my suggestion would be to contact a plastic surgeon, possibly one that does surgery after weight loss or perhaps talk to your lapband Dr. They may be able to advise you if the mesh may be compromised.. Good Luck.
  15. I am also thinking about Mexico Dr's as well. However someone has told me about Dr Kirshenbaum in Denver, he charges a little more than most Dr's in Mexico but he is in the US which may or may not be a plus. His fees are $9950. I'm from Colorado and currently in California, so it would work out for me. but I just wanted to give you another option to look at. www.lapbandrockies.com
  16. Hi Becca, Thanks so much for your note because I found the website on Dr. Rodriguez in Monterrey and was very impressed with the information I was able to get from it. Actually between the two Monterrey and Tijuana, I was looking more at going to Monterrey. I just wanted to find someone who had been there to find out how their experience was, so thank you again for your information. I would like to communicate with you further on this, but I'm new this this forum and don't know how to PM you.. My email addy is nicnaknut@aol.com . Would like to hear from you... Congratulations on your band and wishes for good health and weight loss. Regards, nicnaknut
  17. Hi marjon, Thank you so much for the info on the Denver doctor... I will definately look into it because I am from Colorado. I lived in the Denver area most of my life and moved to the Grand Junction area in 1985. I still have kids, grandkids and other relatives there so this would be a great place to go and have it done. I am so happy to hear that there is a doctor in the US that does not charge an arm and a leg especially when you don't have any insurance... I would like to hear from you on how you are doing now that you are 6 months post banding... Thanks again for the info and happy weight loss.... Kind Regards, nicnaknut
  18. Hello, I am a 59 year old Newbie in California and just getting started on my journey to Lapbanding. I do not have any insurance and cannot afford to have it done in the United States, so I am wondering if anyone has had the surgery done in Mexico? If you have where at in Mexico (Tiajuana or Monterrey) and where do you go for fills when needed? Do United States doctors assist when it was done in Mexico? Thank you all in advance of any help you can give me...
