  1. THANK YOU all for posting here - I am excited to have some experience partners now and I hope you will all keep in touch here with me!
  2. OMG You are soooo cute - watched your videos - AWESOME job!! And I love the Unjury chkn broth - it's going to be a life saver because I can't stomach shakes. I have to spend some more time in your blog looking at your products!
  3. they aren't just negative about your WLS - they ARE negative. If they were saying things like we worry about the surgery risks, that would be normal. If they are telling you you can meet your goals through diet & dicipline & Exercise, then ask them why they aren't rich sucessful lawyers or brain surgeons???? This thread kills me! I too deal with this myself - and from my own damn husband!!! And yes, he IS a negative person, not just specific to the WLS. F*CK THEM!!! This is for you. PS this is NOT about their son either!!! My in-laws quickly became Out-laws!
  4. I'd look dead at 115. At 145 I am a sz 8. At 140 I am sz 6. I am taller than you a lil bit though. I dont recal ever being below 138 though. I was sz 6-8 at that weight. And I was killing myself to maintain it. I did more damage to myself killing myself to be that size than the side effects/risks of RNY most likely.
  5. It's funny because I recall when I was young, so many around me saying that I was "padding myself". Um nooooo, I LIKED food!!! I wasn't trying to gain weight on purpose - not even subliminally! The overweight genes run in my family, and I am insulin resistant with PCOD. The contridicting thing was I too was (am) a perfectionist and the one thing I could not get perfect was my health! And like you, I am not thrilled about not taking my medicine. I NEED it.
  6. OK follow my stats please: Small framed 5'3, high weight of 238 (again). I was 238 on Feb 4 (and diabetic type II). As of today, 8 weeks later, I am 204 (-34 lbs in 8 weeks) and my blood sugars (via stick) are normal. My A1c is 6 Yes, this is all good news! So today I am 5'3 204 lbs, normal blood sugar.... My surgery is still a week away and I KNOW I will be under 200lbs by then. My GW is 130, though I would feel great at 145 (so 55 - 70 lbs to go)..... Since I am a yo-yo-er, I once again have it in my head that I can do this without surgery. CAN I????????????? Uggggg, I am so scared of the surgery (not the eating issues or future etc) but the actual modification and surgical risks. 3 weeks to 3 months recently, I KNEW this was for me. For YEARS I have known this was for me. Am I the only one who's a chronic Yo-Yo-er? My dream about the surgery is that someday POST op, I can eat normal (in a sense) and not have to worry about gaining 50 lbs from a few bites of things. Hope that made sense
  7. WOWOWOW Best Topic for me today!!! Glad I'm not alone. I too am PCOD and with the pre-op weighloss, I got my period 2x regularly and 3rd time should have been last week - and NADA!!! I am really worried it will start just before my April 17th date!!! I haven't used a pad in 25 years! (then again, I've only gotten my period like a dozen times regularly in all of that time LOL). And now this.....ugggg
  8. Your stats are similar to mine. I am pre-surgery (April 17 date) with many concerns. I am about to post some concerns as other topics. Since you started at similar stats to me, maybe you can find my other topic and respond? It will be about pre-op weight loss. Part of my dilemma in this now is that my pre-op weight loss is amazingly fast (and actually now that I have looked at some people's stats POST surgery, appears to be faster). I am a yo-yo-er
  9. Meeting with the nutritionist was wonderful. She really laid out all the eating habits that would change post surgery and gave me meal plans for every day starting with day 1 (liquid diet), through meal plans up to 8 months later. More importantly, she helped give me a little strength to get on my pre-surgery eating plan. I saw her 3x in past 9 weeks. I don't have to see her further, though I can if I choose (my own payment though if I do). In all honesty, she didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know. She just made me accountable. She did harp into my brain though the importance of eating Protein at all meals (>25g), and eating it FIRST before Fiber. I am a horrible anesthesia person. Once I had surgery and was sick for a week after and the anesthesia stayed in my system for a MONTH. This was before we knew I was allergic to morphine though. I am disabled and had 6 surgeries in less than 14 months and after the 1st one, the OR got my anesthesia administration down to a science. I was soooo grateful. My RNY surgery is at a different OR though so I am really nervous even though they know my requirements/protocol. I DO NOT want to be projectile vomiting bile as I come out of anesthesia!!! I also know redheads react differently to it.
  10. I LOVE YOUR BLOG!!!! LOVE IT!!!!! I have many of the same worries - and I am concerend I will get my period due to the stress and shock! I too am on medication that I WANT to and must take (neurontin) and there's no liquid form so the large pills must be crushed to a fine powder, thus I am weaning myself this week to 2x a day (as opposed to 3x a day). I loved your post about how you would treat your 5-year-old-self. And I really related to your concerns of being healthy, ok, and living. Please keep in touch here. How long do you anticipate being in the hospital?
  11. @Lulu - check out my recent post - looking for experience partners with dates April 15 & 16
  12. I'm in Buffalo NY area. 8 wks ago they set me up with the mandatory nutritionist and she gave me a modified version of the "pre-op" diet and asked me to see if I could stick to it for 2 weeks. Well I basically just never stopped, and dropped 32 lbs in 8 wks. So my liver-reduction diet began recently and I am fine with it because it's so similar. Yes I have my protien shakes lined up but I am not going to be able to do them - I hate shakes. So I got the
  13. I just don't get why 2 people who had successful RNYs would do such a thing. JERKS. Well, going back to your original post.... I have not told my friends about my surgery. I am not especially close to anyone other than my husband. I have very judgmental friends who put everything down from food Stamp recipients to Breast Implants.... and I am fairly confident that since they don't know me that well, they will be quick to say this is a vanity thing and I am "taking the shortcut". I do feel awkward though since they are catty and as I lose weight they will ask me a million questions about how I am doing it. I have already lost 32 lbs in 8 weeks so in terms of weight loss, I have already "set the stage". I am already predicting how HORRIBLE I will feel not confessing that I had WLS, although I NEVER will. My attitude is that it's MY business and they do not need to know.
  14. OMG You are a perfect match!!! We spoke before. I am so overwhelmed and excited that I cant recall who I have chatted with LOL
  15. My date is April 17. I'm looking for "experience buddies" who have the dates mentioned. I am also specifically looking for ANY REDHEADS and anyone with similar stats to me (currently 5'3 204 lbs diabetic). Thanks!
  16. DD is a course you take 1x every 3 years to reduce your car insurance. You can take it at a place or do it online. In the past when I have lost weight naturally (I am pre-op), I can immediately feel my bony knees! When I shave my legs, it's hard...and when I sleep I have to put a pillow between them. I have also enjoyed feeling my hip bones despite sometimes getting bruises there.
  17. evrey doctor seems to give different directions regarding the pre-op. The goal of the pre-op as I understand it, has to do with liver shrinkage so that the Dr can avoid it more easily during the surgery and not accidentally knick it. (and of course to empty the stomache and intestines) I've read Drs vary between full liquid diet for 2 wks, to only liquid diet 3 days before surgery. I think some of this is based on a patient's overall health AND also the Dr's preferance. I know we are all on a jourbey here, but this is a life altering surgery (medically) and for some it is a life altering lifestyle (emotionally and in terms of food). For your own benefit, please try to follow your particular Dr's directions. I don't see your slip-up as being all that big of a deal 8 days before surgery, although you didn't specify what "Normal eating" was. That could mean anything really. You will be fine I think.
  18. I'm going through similar. In your case, why are they saying/being critical of you having this surgery? When you answer, I will tell you what I am experiencing.
  19. what do they taste like: lemon, cherry, grape? Details on taste please
  20. So what does it taste like please (the MC I am referring to obviously for the comedians )
  21. that just made my night!! I was just doing a search on this here because I have to do it too soon
  22. this is a wayyyyyy out comment, but is there any chance you were allergic to the staples?? It's rare to be allergic to titanium but possible.
  23. yeah wow. I just stalked one of your threads. I don't think I want to know. But I can tell you that I am a high risk patient and the OR has to take precautions. I wrote about this in other topics, but my husband and family are not supporting this - simply because I am high risk.... well that and because I lost 30lbs pre-op and they seem to think this is all about weight and will power. Oh gawd, don't get me started. I hope you have a better day tomo. I am also disabled and in chronic pain from an accident I was in. I could go on.....and on.....and on
  24. ok that is definitely something I would do..... well when not busy having anxiety over anesthesia.I'm hesitant to ask what your signiture is about ("disabled due to GP complications") ugggg **shrinking in chair**
  25. OH NO I do NOT want to strip naked in the OR LOLOLOLOL For IChatman: ok let me see... the disection of the stomach is done by a tool - it looks like a duck's bill. It is a medical stapler that has 6 rows of TINY staples (titanium) with a knife inbetween. I got to play with the stapler! It looks like a futuristic ray gun to be honest. It's about 18" long with the "duck's bill" on the end. It does ALL the work for the doctor in disection. When he places that to the area he is going to "cut", it cuts AND seals both the old and new stomach simultaneously. Thus there is no abilty for the stomach to leak.... although it can, but it really shouldn't during or after the procedure. Since we are doing some forms of liquid dieting pre-op, and we do a bowel cleanse thing and then not eating a while before surgery, the stomach is empty. The old stomach then will continue to secrete its normal hormones & enzymes etc, as stimulated (which basically it never will be) and if it should, it cannot go upwards. There are no nerves to be injured and any vessels that might bleed, will be caulderized as needed. When they blow the cavity up with gas, it seperates the organs from the muscles, although there is fat all over. Hope that made sense.
