How much HELP do I need on the day I get home?
Now this resinates with me! I am glad you reminded me of the bathroom and showering. I too am atypical. In fact, I am a high risk patient (not due to weight issues). I am soooo optimistic about the surgery (unlike the past surgeries). I have a good attitude and I want to be able to be independent by day 3 (meaning at least 24-48 hrs after coming home). Leticia Huggins - thank you too for reminding me about broth and popsicles. I am looking forward to grocery shopping the day before surgery. I have my list etc. I am so excited and yet so scared at the same time. I do not want anyone's help though in my house. My friends kind of suck to be honest. We live in a new area and my husband is gone for a while and I have no family here. I am paying a pet sitter too.

Live Alone - Surgey in 2 wks. No support
Thank you for your comments! Why exactly was it hard the days after your recovery? Was it pain, lethargy, effects of medication, orrrrr possibly you want to do your routine (like clean the house etc etc) and you cannot? I'm just trying to prepare myself.

Describe your 1-day post-op PAIN please
I've had 9 major surgeries in my life so I am like a pain description guru.... So can anyone describe what the pain feels like on the day after the surgery in detail? Thank you (Trying to consider what to expect) Also, what pain meds do most people get sent home with?

wow - thank you for telling me I am not the only one!! I am in Buffalo area. I'm trying now to find a reliable trustworthy dog sitter and that's even stressful. I'm very independent but I am all alone where I live. I'm not scared, I just can't drive myself to the hospital and home ya know?! Whare are all of you located?

Surgery date in april!
New here too. My date is April 17 - one day before you. I am nervous as hell! I have made a few other posts about lack of support and other things. My Dr's liver-reduction diet is very simple to me. The hardest part is the protien because I HATE shakes or Protein powder. I feel overehelmed in the pre-appointments though. And I want to be sure my house is all cleaned up and the groceries done etc before I am admitted. I feel very overwhelmed.

Live Alone - Surgey in 2 wks. No support
Well I am currently living alone because my husband is away for work. He cannot come home for 8 more months. I will be having my surgery basically alone (a friend will be helping as I need). Since pursing my REY and going through all of the process, I have lost 30 lbs. Yes, I yo-yo. So my family is NOT in support of my choice to get REY. It annoys the f*ck out of me because they don't see the diabetis, the sleep problems, the binging..... to them its about weight I suppose. I got the lecture about "Taking the short cut" blah blah blah. Honestly, I am rather offended at how they have acted..... do they think I am some idiot???? I am a higher risk patient due to severe allergies and complications in other surgeries, so my family is in terrible fear. I am NOT in fear though - well not out of the norm anyway. I have the typical fear of anesthesia etc etc. I trust my doctor and this was not an easy choice for me. I got very involved in this decision, even researching the biology of it all etc etc.... EVERY DETAIL! I have lost weight before like this...my family seems to forget and is stil stuck in the mindset that being healthy and at a healthy weight is all about will power etc..... I'm really tired of it. My date is April 17. Being alone is complicating it a tad - I have to find someone to pet sit, and someone to take me to/from hosp, and then stick around as I need them afterwards. I dont know anyone where we live. *sigh*

How much HELP do I need on the day I get home?
Dear Newly Post Ops!! My question is on the day you get released from hospital how much help do you need?? How many days do you need help for?? I do not have kids, and will have no responsibilities except to follow my Dr's orders, and recover... Aside from monitoring me for illness or something, why exactly do I need someone to stay with me? Your experiences please? Thank you

Hate protein
I'm with you - I HATE PROTIEN and dislike shakes of any type. Additionally I am allergic to whey. I'm reading up on the recipies here and happy to see discussions about chkn broth! I have to weed through this all and get some info. The Vega One protien powder I use requires a large amount to reach the protien needed and it's expensive! Its all gross to me though

Allergic to Whey
Well I am allergic to whey & Casein and I HATE shakes of any kind. My nutritionist turned me on to Vega One Protien powders and it's acceptable - far better than any protien shake I have ever tested. But it is $$$$ expensive $$$ Anyone have any suggestions?

RED HEADS question
This is a question for ALL NATURAL RED HEADS I pose this question specifically to redheads because of the gene mutation we have Did you find that any of your surgeons recognized the specific issues of allergies and pain management that we share? Did any one of you notice that you had specific reactions to anesthesia? As a red head, I have had alleric reactions to things my entire life. My surgeon is aware of my history obviously, but I still am always interested in the expereinces of other red heads. Thank you

Internal Staples Question - what metal & reactions
Dear friends, I am going to ask my doctor directly this week coming, but what is the exact material the internal staples are made of? I am getting even conflicting info in the office (titanium vs. surgical steel). Any chance anyone has a picture of one? I can't seem to find a clear pic on google images. Has ANYONE ever had a problem with the internal staples, such as reaction or shifting etc.... How many staples can one expect to have or does that depend? Thank you for your experiences and information.
