  1. I just wanted to share my story this far so no one makes the mistakes I did after surgery. Listen to your surgeon!!! I had RNY 4/15/13. Surgery went well with the exception of post op bleeding through one of my incisions. I had to have two blood transfusions and I finally healed two weeks post op. I was given instructions to take Vitamins and potassium. Being 23, I thought I was indestructible. Wrong! I stopped both. I quickly lost 50 pounds in less than a month and couldn't stomach foods. For two weeks I suffered from nausea and vomiting. I finally went to the er and had blood work done. My potassium levels were dangerously low. I had a scope done as well. I also had a severe allergic reaction to iv vitamins which almost caused me to stop breathing and made me break out in blisters. I'm finally out if the hospital and I feel great! Listen to your doctor and take EVERYTHING they prescribe you!!!
  2. I have to get a scope done tomorrow. I was wondering what other people's experiences were with it. I'm more nervous for this than I was for surgery

    Uggg

I'm 5 and a half weeks out. All this week I have been dry heaving, which is causing my stomach muscles to kill. I told the doctor and I did a barium swallow test and everything looked good. Did anyone have this problem?
  6. I'm three and a half weeks post rny. I've lost 39 pounds so far. I haven't cheated once, but I also am having a hard time eating. Today I completely broke down crying because I miss carbs and soda. I've gone almost two months without both and today out of nowhere, it hit me. I know if I tried to cheat I'd probably get sick. I guess it's all head hunger. Now I know why I was overweight in the first place. Not a good day for me.

    Helppp..

I had mine on 4/15. I'm the same way. There's days where I can't stomach anything just because I'm not hungry at all. I hear it takes a few months to get the "hunger pains" back
  8. Ill be three weeks post op in Monday. I'm on soft protein. I literally feel like I'm forcing myself to eat. I'm never hungry. Did anyone else experience this and does it eventually go away? I have a lot of head hunger but the second I take a bite of something, I just don't.....feel it, I guess you could say.

    buyers remorse

That happened to me yesterday. I'm two weeks post op and just had a bad day with pain. I broke down crying and feeling sorry for myself because I still can't stomach food. Today I feel 100% better. Some days are easy, some are hard. Just think where you will be in a year. That's my motivation. Skinny and healthy!
  10. I'm 11 days out from gastric bypass. During the day, I usually feel pretty good. The most I have is discomfort. When night time hits, that's when the actual pain starts. I'm trying not to over do it with pain meds. Did anyone go through this? I feel like I'm not getting any sleep because of the pain.
  11. I don know if anyone else uses these but they are amazing. My doctor approved it since I can't stand the taste of powder Protein shakes. 1g of sugar 35g of protein I highly recommend it if your doctor allows them

I know they at at Walmart and Walgreens. I got them at trader joes and gnc

    Pain at night

I'm glad I'm not alone. I try and take a pain pill before bed. I end up waking up like clock work at midnight at 4am with the pain. I can't wait till I can be able to get a full night of sleep

    Water, Water, Water

I literally am going through the same thing. All I've been drinking is water and probably only a bottle a day. I just know my stomach can't tolerate anything other than that. My doc said that was common so soon after surgery since your stomach is still pretty swollen

    good investment

I just bought that yesterday and its a godsend!
  16. I try and prop my head up, which makes it a lot easier to get out if bed. Also I've noticed that if I'm planning to sleep for long periods of time, I force myself to walk around every few hours or else my stomach starts to cramp up. Walking helps a lot!
  17. I didn't know what to expect surgery wise going in. The anesthesia was so painful for me as it wore off. Definitely worse than the surgery pain. I've also always been a private person but I found myself letting complete strangers and my mother see more than what they probably bargained for lol. I did have some complications. When I would stand up, one of my incisions would bleed a lot. I had two blood transfusions and ended up back in the hospital the day after I was released. I'm pretty sore now (surgery was 4/15) but I don't regret it at all!!! The pain and discomfort is immediately relieved with pain meds. It's only been 6 days and I'm down 18 pounds and definitely looking forward to shedding a lot more. Best decision I've ever made! Good luck to you!!!!????
  18. I had surgery a week ago tomorrow. For some reason, I can't stomach any food. Last week I took a few bites here and there, but I'm just not hungry at all. I could probably go a few days without eating. I am getting some liquids down though Has anyone else experienced this? I'm starting to worry myself. It's been 6 days and I've post 13 pounds because food doesn't sound good to me at all yet

    Drain Tubes?

I had a jp drain and a catheter. I was so nervous before surgery because my doctor never talked about it. When I woke up in recovery I was told I had both. A few hours later I was thankful for the catheter because with all the iv fluids, I wasn't getting up every half hour to use the bathroom. It didn't even hurt when they took it out. My jp was kind of a pain but also good in a way. It did tend to get in the way and it pulled if it wasn't emptied every few hours. I got mine taken out the day I went home. I miss it because, I don't know if its possible, but I feel bloated from all the blood in my stomach.

    Eating

I'm on puréed protein. I just feel like every time I out food in my mouth I might get sick. I tried broth in the hospital but that wasn't going to happen with my stomach

    Looking Forward To . . .

    I agree with that one!!!
  24. I also have the same. I had to have my psych eval completed first. After that, I was approved immediately. Then I had cardio and pulmonary and after it was submitted to insurance
  25. I had to do a preop diet beforehand so I could reduce my fatty liver. I know a bunch of people on here did as well. My doctor also said that its sorta to prove that you're in it for the long run if you're able to loose beforehand.
