One more sleep.
Twas the night before banding, My bag is packed and I am ready for my early start tomorrow morning. I have to be at the hospital for 7am and I'm told I will be ready to go home by 11am. I am not nervous at all, just excited. It's strange looking forward to surgery. I will hopefully be able to update my blog tomorrow afternoon but maybe I'll be sleeping :waytogo: The only thing I am thinking about is the fact that they will see me naked. I'm sure they have seen it all but it doesn't stop me fretting. Silly I know. Anyway see you all on the other side.

On day 10, 7 days left! It is easier and the goal is getting nearer but I still miss food, well flavour actually. 10lb down  I hope it carries on at a pound a day until my op

March 24th is the day!
Hi Ladies, I am on day 9 of my liquid diet and have lost 9lb. I started weighing myself everyday which was ok until day 5 when I gained a pound??? WTH I can tell you feeling that hungry and putting on weight is no joke. I was crushed and even more grumpy than ever. But I made the decision to just weigh in every 4 days and not to worry too much and now I feel lots better. One thing it did highlight for me was my emotional attachment with the scales and made me wonder how I would feel if I put on weight (even a little) once banded. I band date is the 22nd so I will post the same day if I am awake :-) Good luck, the time will go by quicker than you think x

Anyone Banded In Belgium W/dr Dillemans?
Hi, Its not your weight or size for the NHS but more your BMI. They only really consider people with a BMI over 40. I am being banded on the NHS on the 22nd of March. Good luck in your search. The NHS is a long wait (I waited over 18 months ) But its worth it.

March 24th is the day!
Hi Darkangel I am on day six of my liquid diet and although it is hellish it is getting a little easier. I cant tell you how much I miss food but it feels a bit like a right of passage. If I can survive this then everything else will be easy, right? One tip is make sure you drink plenty of fluids. It will help with the headaches plus you will walk to the bathroom so much it will count as exercise  Good luck and stick with it x

tough day
Wow tsmrdh is that your pre op diet? I was given the choice of a very restricted food diet but I found that harder than having just milk. I agree about the cooking. I am not cooking any meals as I have two teenage daughters who have kindly taken over while I do this but I am baking instead. Its weird I just need some contact with food and it gives me satisfaction to see others eating my creations. Other half would get fat except he is training for a marathon so runs it off. I keep making enough to feed everyone in the office as well. I'm going to make someone fat if it kills me ha ha. But its not a conscious decision, weird! Well done on your weight loss! Thats a very satisfying amout to lose in a week

tough day
Today was a tough day. I went to Covent Garden in London with Marcus and my two daughters. We were shopping for running shoes. Marcus is running the London Marathon at the end of April. Covent Garden is full of food!!! People were eating everywhere. The smells were fantastic. I am on day two of a milk only diet  Then Marcus had a cheese and bacon pasty which smelled like heaven, I had a latte. Later we ended up in the Battersea Pie shop where Marcus had a beef pie and No1 daughter had steak and ale pie and mashed potatoes. No 2 daughter had paella. I had another latte. I have to get through days like this as they are not going to stop eating just because I have but boy it was hard. I am glad to be home "safe" away from temptation. I miss food though. Will that ever go away????:tt1:

Pre op appointment
Ok so it was a bit of an anti climax but still good. I had blood pressure, weight, and MRSA tests done by a lovely nurse called Lorna. She really made me feel comfortable. The I had an ECG and some blood tests. And I was home in an hour! No photos, phew. No dietician, no talk about surgery. I have to say once I saw the surgeon last August it has pretty quick and to the point. No great discussions. I was expecting lots of information and guidence. Thank heavens for LapBandTalk and everyones willingness to share. Without it I think I would have been totally unprepared. I have followed the restricted food diet for 4 days and gained 1.5 lb. I cant dwell on that point because I feel like giving up. I have, hand on heart not eaten anything that wasnt weighed and on the list so how I gained weight I dont know. But I am now switching to the milk only diet for the next 18 days. That has surely got to work????? I am under no illusion that it will be easy but now I have had the pre op I feel like its the final countdown and I have to make the effort. I am so looking forward to life with the band.:thumbup::tt2::thumbup::smile2:

Pre Op tomorrow!
Well it's finally happening, I have my pre op appointment tomorrow and my band date is the 22nd of March. I think I have to have some blood tests, an ECG and chat about the pre op diet. Then they take photos  not looking forward to that! I started the pre op diet on Monday (3 days early) just so I could get used to it and ask any questions on the day. This countdown is so exciting :smile2: I can't wait to start posting my post op blog! I am so positive about it all. Anyway I will let you know how tomorrow goes and hopefully it will help any Uk banders see what sort of stuff you have to do. :tt2:

Hi from the Uk
Hi long time no speak. I finally have a date for my op! Its the 22nd of March. I have a pre op appointment on the 4th of March. I am starting the pre op diet tomorrow (not looking forward to that) but I am hoping it will be easier to stick to as the alternative is that they wont do the surgery. I cant believe its finally time to join you all. At last I will have a story of my own. I am really surprised at what a lonely journey this is. I am really excited but no one else seems to feel the same way. I can talk to my partner about everything, he is my best friend but he doesnt get this at all. He is just worried about the op. My girlfriends nod in the right places but they dont realise what this means to me. I hope once its all over and its working everyone will be more encouraging. But I have enough enthusiasim for them all. I still havent found any other UK banders so the search is still on. If you are reading this and want to share your experience please contact me.:smile2::smile::smile2::smile::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2::smile2:

Starting tomorrow
I have an appointment to discuss the liver shrinking diet on the 4th of Dec but I want to start now. Can you tell me if it is basically the Atkins diet? Is it just as simple as only eating 30g of carbs a day because I cant believe you can eat stuff like butter and mayonaise and so much bacon and cheese? I dont want to get it wrong. I am a complete carb junkie and I have just done my first week without them. I am nowhere near as hungry as I was but I have lost 3lb. I feel the same way you do about eating habits. Its so hard to look at a plate of food without carbs and not feel something is missing. Then you feel deprived and who wants to feel like that all the time? But I tell myself that its just the way I have been programmed and like a computer I just need re programming. Good luck for the 24th hope it all goes well. x

has anyone had a lapband on the NHS in kent
Hi I am on the waiting list for the op in Romford, Essex. From the first appointment at the hospital to now has been 18 months. I was referred by my GP, I saw a medical doctor for over a year while he tried diets and visits to the dietician and then finally he referred me to the surgeon. Since I saw the surgeon I waited 6 weeks to see if my funding had been approved then I was on the list. They tell me the op should be done within 18 weeks of getting funding so that works out to the middle of Feb 2010. I am hoping something comes up sooner and I have an appointment with the dietician to start the low carb liver shrinking pre op diet on the 4th of Dec. It seems like a long time but what is the alternative? It really has gone by quicker than I thought and I am really glad I stuck it out. I could not afford to have the op privately so there was no other choice for me. Just persevere and take all the help and advice offered and dont get downhearted. The first time went to the hospital they told me to stop eating biscuits and crisps!!! Seriously if it was that simple I would be thin by now. But I kept going back, never missing an appointment not matter how much I thought they were a waste of time, and here we are. Good luck, you will get there in the end

Very Hopeful
They are very inspiring photos. I am waiting for my band too. When are you getting it done and where are you from?

Ah thanks. I have an appointment on the 4th of Dec with the dietician to start my low carb liver shrinking diet. It's starting to seem real now!

I finally got my funding. I can't believe I got the funding. My letter arrived from the surgeon with a DVD to watch too. So I am on the list. I am so excited. I am thinking of my life after the op and thinking how things will change. I have to see a dietician and a psychiatrist but I dont think that will be a problem. I have been visiting this web site for over two years and watching everyone go through the process and seeing how they have changed. And now it's my turn I know that the friendship and support I get here will help me change my life for the better. Everyone here is so encouraging and supportive and so generous to share their down moments along with the highs. I hope I can do the same and maybe help someone in my position. I have always seen successful people who say "if I can do it anyone can" and thought "oh yeah easy for you to say, youre not me" but who knows maybe it will be me saying that in the future.

It's good news week!
Thanks :-) I checked out the mid band on the web and its exactly the same as the one the doctor showed me. It looks ok. I still cant believe Ive got this far and I am so glad I persevered through all the doctors appointments that I thought were pointless.
