  1. The problem with taking 30 minutes to eat anything is that food gets cold before I'm finished.

    Happy Norwegian

One of my favorite Norwegian foods is lutefisk. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk) As much as I loved it, before surgery it had a tendency to make me gassy. I decided to risk it and had a little on Sunday. I used a butter substitute instead of butter and ate probably about 1/8 of a cup. It was wonderful and didn't disagree with me at all. I am a happy Norwegian.

    Ouch

I'm 2 1/2 weeks out from surgery. I just had my first episode of vomiting. I got a really sharp pain in the center of my chest and lost my lunch. (tuna) How can I avoid this from happening again?

    great shake recipes

I had the cinnamon roll shake for breakfast. Warning!!! Cinnamon does not stay suspended in the shake very well. Most of the shake was awesome, but the last few swallows.....Yowzers!!!

    Disappointed =(

Thank you!!! I didn't know about the surgery stall. It felt great to get back in the pool. I didn't do all of the exercises and felt really good. I'll go 2 days next week and then back to a regular schedule of 3 days the following week.
  9. I saw the dietitian and the doctor yesterday. Both were very pleased with my progress. I am down 15 pounds since surgery and 32 pounds overall. I am soooooo glad to be off of pureed food. I went directly from the doctor to Red Lobster where I had shrimp off of the kids menu. Because I haven't had any problems with vomiting or food making me nauseous, the dietitian broadened my parameters of allowable food at this point. I am excited to try some new things. In addition, doc said that incisions look good so I get to return to water aerobics tonight!!! Woo Hoo!!!!
  10. I have been averaging a loss of a pound a day since surgery. By this time next year, I'll be 365 pounds lighter.

    Puree Recipes

I'm not allowed anything but animal protein, yogurt, cottage cheese, and protein shakes.
  12. I had my surgery last Wednesday. I felt kind of rough the first day home, but now feel really good. Very little pain....more feels like there is a weight on my stomach. I've been careful about what I eat and have done some walking. I've only lost 4 pounds since surgery. I was expecting more. Is this normal? I'm impatiently waiting to see results.

    5 days post op

They weighed me right before surgery. I weighed the day after I got home and had lost 4 pounds. Haven't lost anything more. I'll try again in a few days and see if anything has happened.

    Hey baby

My doc requires only puréed protein for 2 weeks post op. He wants it to come primarily from natural sources, so not too many shakes. Just had beef and gravy baby food for lunch. Not too bad with a little salt. 8 grams of protein. Is anyone else using baby food?

    Hey baby

this is what you work up to. 3 ounces of Protein, 3 meals a day. Protein can include Puréed chicken, beef, pork, turkey, eggs Fat free cottage cheese Fat free, sugar free regular or Greek yogurt Supplement (15-30gms protein, less than 7 gms carbs)
  17. Surgery was Wednesday. I got released today. I'm staying in a hotel tonight and will go home tomorrow. I'm feeling kind of rough tonight. Pain in my back, neck, and chest. Is that normal? Dined on turkey baby food tonight. Not as bad as what I anticipated. Eating ice chips and Popsicles to get fluid. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Pain meds should be knocking me out pretty soon.
  18. My surgery is scheduled for 7:10 tomorrow morning. Just took the FDA approved Drano and will stay close to the hotel room tonight.

    I hope I didn't blow it

I have been doing ok on the 2 week pre-op diet, but caved a few times and ate something that I shouldn't have. I've lost required weight and all of my tests were really good. Doc said my liver was beautiful. Please tell me that after working so hard that the slip-ups won't mean surgery will be cancelled. Slip-up=over the course of 2 weeks- a piece of bread, part of a piece of fried chicken, a cup of cocoa, sugar-free JELLO, sugar-free Popsicle

    Pre-op frustration

Because I have been so weight loss resistant in the past, I followed a modified pre-op diet for a month. (2 shakes and then whatever I wanted for supper). I lost 11 pounds. Now I'm in the pre-op diet phase of 2 shakes and 1 meal of 4-6 ounces of protein and 1 cup of vegetables. I've lost hardly anything. I have until the 13th to lose 4 more pounds. I thought it would come off more quickly at this stage. My pre-op tests all came back very good, but if I haven't lost 15 pounds, they won't do surgery. Any ideas?????

    2 weeks to go

I really like the vanilla muscle milk and the strawberry AES. I'm not a fan of the slim fast stuff. For lunch, I often have lean beef protein broth. It warms me up here in chilly ND. I like the isopure juice too but have to drive 2 hours to get it. I bought some protein powders from GNC, but haven't tried them yet. I'm looking forward to new beginnings. Blessings to all of you.
  22. My surgery is scheduled for February 13th!!!! I start the strict diet on Wednesday. I have been easing into it and have done well.....lost 11 pounds. Today I was craving carbs in a bad way. I don't want to sabotage this. Four more pounds in 2 weeks in order to have the surgery. Good news though....my pre-op tests were outstanding. The doc said that I have a beautiful liver. I'm thinking of putting a picture of it on Christmas cards next year. Lol

    Protein Broths

I purchased 2 kinds of protein broth from TrueNutrition. Each has 1.5 grams of carbs and 26 grams of protein per serving. I was getting tired of the sweet shakes all of the time. (yeah, shocked me too). I tried the French Onion flavor. I wouldn't serve it for Christmas dinner, but it wasn't too bad. I also got the beef broth, but haven't tried it yet.

    Real Recipes

My son and daughter-in-law gave me the cookbook "Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery" for Christmas. I made a couple of the soups today, pureed them, and have them freezing in ice cube trays. I was really excited because they tasted really good, even pureed. The cookbook indicates how and when each recipe can be eaten (weeks 1-4, 1/2 cup pureed). I then went back and looked at the info that my nutritionist gave me and the only thing that is mentioned is protein. Am I allowed to have anything in addition to the protein? One soup has onions, garlic, mushrooms, and broth. The other one has ginger, jalapeno, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, and broth.
