kat77 got a reaction from Annek2014 in Question about being "finished" with weight loss
I am happy for a response from anyone's point of view. As you say, I know that my weight is " healthy" for my height, yes. I hear the number and it sounds great. But I am very unhappy with what is left of my body because it still looks fat to me. It's so hard to explain. I guess I had unrealistic expectations about how I would look. And I just feel like its so hard to wrap my head around them telling me that I can't lose any more. I am so used to always having needed to lose.

    Hi everyone,
Before I begin, let me say this, Please don't get angry at me because I remember thinking that people my size complaining about this were ridiculous and trying to get attention. It made me angry that they called themselves fat when I had so far to go. But after being fat for my entire life, it is so hard to see anything else.
I just wanted to ask if anyone else is in the same place I am. I. Have lost over 150 lbs. according to the doc I am beginning to be underweight but my BMI is still 19.8. I don't know what to do because it is so confusing to go from "lose weight or you'll die" to "you need to stop losing and maybe even gain a few lbs"
Please don't think I'm whining or complaining, I'm just confused. I still feel overweight and there is extra skin on my stomach, arms and legs that looks like fat. So it's hard to say " ok, that's enough, I'm happy with what I've lost" because I'm not. What do you do to change the way you see yourself when you see a fat person still and they see underweight? I had my surgery 2-6-13 and I was 287.7 then. I'm 5'9" and 134.4 now in a size 3. . I'm 37 and it has all been spent obese except about a year in my early 20's and even then I was 200 lbs.
Is there anyone else who is finished losing who is struggling too? And even if you still have weight to lose, do any support groups talk about this issue? I'm not in one. Please help if you can and please don't be angry at my post, I'm writing with sincerity.
Thank you if you read this, Kat

Thank you all for the really encouraging words. I have another weigh in tomorrow and we'll see how that goes. I appreciate all of your comments. I think I do see my self differently than my husband. He says I'm really skinny but then he. Doesn't get to see the fat bits. Anyways I appreciate all of you're help.

I love the nutribullet and I always get vanilla flavored because I was never able to Mix the plain into anything that tasted good. It always has a taste even if it says I'm flavored. so I always use the vanilla flavored so that I can mix and a banana or some strawberries or some other fruit with my Protein. With the Neutra bullet I even mix vegetables and that I wouldn't be able to eat otherwise flaxseeds chard, Maquet powder, spinach, pineapple, lots of fibrous vegetables that our body needs that we can't eat anymore. I've always wanted to try the costco brand stuff too. As for the dizziness make sure you're hydrated and getting enough protein and calories. I've been hospitalized several times for dehydration so make sure you sip sip sip.

kat77 got a reaction from Alex Brecher in Valentine’s Day Question: Has Weight Loss Surgery Improved Your Relationship?
For me, it has strained my marriage, but ultimately improved it. I have had a lot of complications and many hospital stays. Twisted bowels, blackouts, fainting etc... My husband has been having to do so much more. I'm underweight now. 5'9 and in a size 0 tall...I like that he can pick me up in his arms, but health wise I am afraid I'm very frail and weak. I think though if I could just get stronger, we will be at a really great place in our marriage. I think God has used all our struggles to help him be a stronger leader and help me to trust him to take care of me. Happy Valentine's Day to you all.

My first four months were so slow that I was questioning if I had made the right decision, but I just kept sticking the the high Protein, low carb, and lots of Water and now have lost all of my weight. Our bodies are all different and that was a very mean and unproductive thing to say to you. I don't know what kind of diet your Dr has you on, but for me, the high Protein , low carb really helped me. You only have to stop losing, when YOU decide or when the doc says you are at a healthy weight. Mine wants me to stop and I still feel I have more to lose....its a struggle but its so worth it. I'm sorry she said those hurtful words, just know its rubbish because I didn't even start losing well till month 4 and am still losing at month 16..... You can do it!

I'm a year and a half post RNY gastric bypass with the silastic ring. I have lost of health problems so the first four months were not very successful for me. I had a lot of set backs and hospital visits, so my time has not all been focused on losing, but the first four months were very slow. Most of my weight has been lost in this last year. I told myself that I had do e something very drastic to my body, and I better use that tool while it works the best in thT first year. So no matter what stalls may come, I kept loosing. Whether it is lbs or inches or even just ounces, count it as a victory. And also remember that if you are exercising, you are building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat, so make sure you measure, because you may not be stalled at all. Also consider your diet, some docs don't give there patients any restrictions, my dr. has us eat only lean Protein for the first 50-60. % of weight needed to be lost then we get veggies back. After we get to 70% lost we are allowed fruits, and at maintenance we are on unrestricted, except for high sugar , high fat foods. I lost all my weight on that plan and according to doc even need to gain a few. You CAN do this. Use your tool and when you get frustrated choose to do something that will benefit weight loss. Exercise is supposed to release those same endorphins that we get from eating, we just need to change our coping skills from eating to exercising, I can't do much with my disAbility, but I'm looking into tai chi or yoga to try and help my body cope a different way. God bless and don't lose hope, find strength in saying you CAN do this.

kat77 got a reaction from Leepers in Why is food ALWAYS involved?!
There always will be temptation. I can relate only with the mind part, I had a RNY bypass so I know I can't eat that stuff. But when it's something I miss having, because I used to be a total carb addict... It is hard mentally. You have to decide what is more important to you, a moment of pleasure or a successful victory over your old pattern of coping. It will get easier to make the right choices and will even make you feel powerful because you have the self control they don't.... Keep strong because there will always be crap food in our lives, right under our noses, yes like they want us fat, but choose to be a strong, empowered woman and use your tool.... Hugs Kat

kat77 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in What is the real point of this surgery?
I just wanted to add that I was worried about weight regain as well, I opted to do the RNY gastric bypass and also get the silastic ring. The ring helps you not to stretch out your pouch and I am so glad I did it. My insurance wouldn't cover the ring so I saved and paid for it. I don't think I would have done the surgery without it. I have had success as well. I have lost all of my excess weight. 150+ lbs in a little over a year. But the first four months were very slow since I have other health problems. So it really took me about a year. For me the key was sticking to my docs high Protein diet. As we got to certain weight loss percentages he added back veggies and then fruit. I am now on an unrestricted diet and actually have been asked to gain weight for the first time in my life. This surgery takes hard work and dedication, and it isn't just a quick fix. If you think you can loose your weight without surgery, that is the best thing for you, but for me, I was not able to loose weight because I'm in bed and inactive a lot. You really have to research and decide if this drastic measure is right for you. I do not regret my decision at all, and all the hard work has paid off. But i will have to figure out how to stop losing now and maintain, I don't think the work is ever done, whether you have surgery or not.
