  1. What insurance do you have? I plan to get my surgery on winter break in between semesters as well. I had my seminar in June, met with surgeon in July, and learned I have to do 6 months of weigh-ins. I'm currently set up for weigh-in 3 in September. A lot of the pre-op requirements are time consuming, but can be done in 2-3 months or less depending on your work/school schedule. Good luck!
  2. Designer (brand) flavorless Whey. In stores or on amazon Just google it!
  3. My sister just had surgery and was instructed to crush all pills and put them in unsweetened applesauce. She said the taste was almost unbearable.
  4. I am also on zoloft and have been for close to 3 years. Is the liquid zoloft really that bad? What'd you mix it with?
  5. I want to walk across the stage in May of 2013 for my masters and feel good about myself. My goal weight is 125-150 lbs.
  6. The way it works with my surgeon is that all pre-op work HAS to be completed prior to even getting a date.
  7. At this point, I'm kinda worried for the cardiologist and upper endoscopy. Hopefully things will be fine
  8. Yes. Throughout all this testing, there's been a few issues found so far. So far, there's a cyst that was discovered on my thyroid as well as a faster than normal heart rate (tachycardia). The biggest mystery right now is something is showing up abnormal in my blood work. My blood is showing high levels of inflammation and elevated white blood cells. So far no one knows what's up. Hopefully this is fixed soon. It does happen though.
  9. Like everyone else said...I want to have my own clothing style and not just accept whatever fits. I want to wear colors and not just black. I want to wear jeans! I want to wear heels! I want to look and dress like a woman in her 20's would. Sometimes a lot of the plus size stuff is very "mature" for my age, but beggers can't be choosers! Lol
  10. Probably just trying to move his products along. I'm sure he was trying to make a sale. Like others said, just stick to your Dr. Or nutritionist's advice
  11. Thanks so much for doing this DLCoggin, and taking the time to send out the emails It'll be so helpful!
  12. Would you be interested in attending college for some classes or for another degree if you have one? Not only does it make you more attractive to employers with a degree or two, but it's good to be busy, and maybe you'd enjoy it in the meantime while you look for work!
  13. Hi, I'm Jenn I figured I'd start a blog to document my journey - the good, the great, the not-so-great, and the downright ugly side of things without an ounce of sugar coating. Background: I'm 27, from Long Island, NY, and a Social Work graduate student going to school in the city. I'm set to graduate in May of 2013. I work primarily with clients struggling with substance abuse disorders and mental illness. This is an incredibly exciting time in my life. I've worked so hard to get to where I am, mentally, yet physically...well, I've kind of disregarded that area of my life for awhile now. I've been through some very difficult times growing up, and have put my body through some damage. After all the work I've spent on recovering mentally from all that's happened, I completely neglected to take care of myself physically. This has become a problem now, because although I'm finally happy with where my life is heading, I feel like I'm carrying a huge weight on my shoulders at all. I guess I kind of am! My BMI is 46. I struggle on a daily basis with 0 energy and horrible leg/knee pains. I have sleep apnea. I can't walk up a flight of stairs without breathing heavily. I hate being seen in public because of my weight. I'm 27, and I'm killing myself with food. I'm not going to wait around for it to destroy me. I'm ready to fight back. I am in the process of doing the (horrible) extensive pre-op testing. I am also doing 6 months of a supervised weigh-in/diet with my PCP. When completed, I will be set to have surgery in December. I am ready to feel 27. I'm ready to BE 27. And I won't take a "no" from anyone, nor will I tolerate any negative comments from people, I'm doing this for me
  14. I also have to do the 6 month supervised weigh-ins. I will finish in December and pray to get my surgery before Christmas and before the new year. The only thing that really, really, REALLY stresses me out is what am I supposed to be doing? Would it be in my best interest to lose weight or to stay the same or what? So many people say if you lose too much, insurance can deny you, but if you gain too much, insurance can also deny you for diet noncompliance. I'm literally terrified that if I do well and lose 20lbs (I'd still be at a 40bmi) that my insurance company would say to themselves, "wow, this girl was able to lose weight during a 6 month supervised diet with a PCP...this proved she doesn't need the surgery"! I'm scared of that. What they don't realize is yes, I can lose weight, but can I keep it off and not regain it back plus 30lbs more in the process? This is something we've all been through numerous times and I'd hate to see my success or lack of success during these 6 months be a factor in my insurance approval or not. So stressful
  15. You look beautiful and so happy! Congrats!
