  1. Oh wow!!! What a small world! My sister is having her vertical sleeve done by Brathwaite on July 25th! I'm using Dr. Barkan and am hoping for surgery right after Christmas. I've been going to so many Dr. appts....it's insane!! What type of insurance do you have?? Good LUCK!!! You're in good hands...I was born at Winthrop and have been going there ever since
  2. Oh! Oh! I want to wear my car seatbelt comfortably and not have to struggle getting into and out of the car! Also, I want to be able to go out to eat and sit in a booth and not have to worry if I'll be able to fit or not.
  3. I can't wait to be able to fit comfortably in the desks at my grad school and actually concentrate on learning and not the discomfort and sense of shame. I want to be able to sit ANYWHERE on any chair without having to worry about it creaking ir possibly breaking! I can't wait to buy bras that are pretty and suitable for a woman my age! I want to know what it's like to shop in Victoria Secret and regular sized stores. I want to NOT have to struggle to put my socks on. I want to feel energized and not in pain. I want to exercise without feeling pain. Ahhh there's a lot!
  4. Confused. With the revision, is it basically a surgery to do the RnY all over again a 2nd time?
  5. Hi Cooksie I'm replying to this thread late, but we seem to be in a similar boat. I am doing the 6 month diet (ugh) and just had my first weigh in earlier this month. I'm hoping for surgery right after Christmas inbetween school semesters. Seems like all I've been doing is running back and forth to doctor visits...sleep studies, cardiologist, nutritionist, pulmonologist, lab work, EKG, support groups, psych eval, radiologist...the appointments are never ending I feel like 6 months is a lifetime away...and I fear doing all this work and possibly being denied. It's cool to know we may potentially be having our surgery somewhat around the same time! Good luck to you...and lets makes these next few months count!!
  6. I am also concerned about getting in enough protein being that I don't really like meat or fish. Veggie burgers are great, but are they tolerable after surgery?
  7. Welcome!!! You'll love it here
  8. Welcome!!! You'll find tons of information and mutual support here, so make yourself at home
  9. So happy to hear you're doing well! Was the pain very intense on day 1 and 2? Hang in there and keep us posted
  10. If you find that the anxiety is really overwhelming, you could always ask for a medication temporarily
  11. I think it's all about hope! As I type this, I'm at my sleep study (kill me). Lol
  12. For those of you still pre-op and going through the process of many Dr. appointments or a 6 month supervised diet, what keeps you going knowing insurance COULD deny you? My sister asked me this question, and I'm curious now. This is such a possibility that insurance could say no even after our long jouneys...so what keeps you going and hopeful?
  13. So far, only my family, fiance, and his family know. I will most likely tell my classmates/co-workers as the surgery draws near though. In my opinion, I think it's important to be open about it in order to lessen the stigma associated with weight loss surgery and being overweight in general. The more people are educated, usually the more accepting they become. I don't feel a point in being secretive about it...I feel proud that I'm making my health a priority.
  14. That's terrible Hang in there though. Just think...it's almost over. My sister is your age and doing her two week liquid diet now and having a hard time. I keep letting her know her NEW life is so close now, it's in sight. It's frustrating, but you are almost there.
  15. I'm so sick of not having any energy. I complained so much about most of the pre-op testing I've had so far....but my Dr. Just found an issue with my thyroid...which is a blessing in disguise. If it wasn't for starting the process of getting this surgery, I probably never would have found out! I'm hoping for more energy once it's treated lol. The pre-op testing is a pain, but I see the importance of it now.
  16. Congrats! I am now on day 12!! We can do this!
  17. YAY! Very exciting!!!!
  18. Oh wow! That's do-able. Thank you
  19. For those of you who had to pay out pocket for the nutritionist (if it wasn't covered by insurance) about how much was the consult?
