    Substitute discoveries?

Quinoa is a great substitute. Can be used as side, as protein or as desert. I'm not post op so can't say how it would work.
  2. I am so sorry. Know exactly what you've been going through. Been there, even the park. Asthma not bad at all but no stamina. High BP. On edge of diabetes. Am trying to get myself through all the clearances within a year and can't seem to get there. Keep having to go back to this one or that because expired. LOL We will do what we need to, for us.
  3. OK, due to dragging my feet (can't seem to finish anything lately), I am going for re-clearances from some Drs again. On up-side, have found another sweetener to try, hope I don't have a reaction to this one, and some unsweetened extracts that seem good too! Going for the RNY. Better decision for me. Just hope I can do without my Excedrin! LOL

    depressed

I'm still pre-op but I can understand, a bit, what you're talking about. When I first started down this road...3 years ago...I had no idea of the emotional spirals I would be going through. And this is before it all! I don't think this is taken into consideration, by the medical professionals we count on. From what I've seen here and other forums, this is happening to too many. We just aren't being prepared. It's not like an apendectomy or knee replacement and it's being treated as such. Maybe it's the psych's fault, who knows. But it should be looked at much differently. If you're having difficulty in your new life choices, please don't just let it go. Talk to someone. Get a dialog going, at least, with someone who will listen and try to help you work through it. All the best to you, and us all! EEsMom

    left back pain

Sure it's not kidney? Not post op but a though...
  6. Thanks to flu, had to cancel Onc appointment and re-clearance with pulmonary Dr. Will re-schedule them next week for later. New hurdle....RNY or vertical sleeve? Been reading up and making notes and comparisons. Think it's time to talk to bariatric Dr now.

  7. Happy 54th Birthday EEsMom!

  8. WOW! That was an eye-opener. A number of things I hadn't concidered there. Other things I thought of or worried about and knowing they're a possibility helps. Thanks, will be using this as another reference tool.

    Long Island?

Hello Staten Island! Are you pre or after surgery? I'm pre and not sure when. Other stuff cropped up, medically, totally apart from all this I have to deal with.

You're going to have to see what the Dr says now... If he has reservations, speak to him, calmly and just stating your reasons it's needed. It can be nerve wracking dealing with all the clearances. If he doesn't listen, you may need to either go back to therapist or another Bariatric clinic and start again. Best of luck to you and really hope this works out!!!!

    Ahhhhh

Haven't gotten to 'last meal' thoughts yet. But my 'lasts', yeah. But looking at it in a celebration way. Not a 'death row' last. Going to a fondue restaurant next week since I've never been to one. That's a 'last' too. I've had a Blizzard in CA when visiting my daughter. Been there, done that one. Lol

    Plateau

Have you been checking your measurements? if your exercising, maybe gaining muscle? I'm not post op, so only thoughts. Sorry. It will work out though. Hang in there.

    Decision Time... Surgery Tomorrow!

I was having this discussion with Dr and then dietician (She played devils advocate). This after my own studies on them. I am sticking with RNY. It's best for me, partly for the strictness withknowing myself, it's best. You can only make that decision for you. I also looked at the # of patients having RNY done after other surgeries didn't 'do it' for them..
