  1. I would say this is just a phase you are going through. At some point you will be able to eat more than three bites. I hated leftovers before my surgery and now I eat them with no problem. Usually what I get is so good that after just eating a small amount I want more so I enjoy the next day of eating left overs.
  2. I usually do a protein shake before and after a workout.
  3. I don't really like dehydrated fruit, but I have been eating a lot of fruit because it was natural sugar
  4. Not sure I can give you answers. I am in the same boat you are in right now.
  5. I need help and suggestions. Next week will be 1 year post op for me. I have lost 116lbs and I am very thankful for it, but I am really struggling right now. I was playing soccer 5 nights a week and getting all my protein in and felt great. However during one of my games about 1.5 months ago I twisted my ankle so bad I chipped some bone. I had to stop soccer and working out while it healed in a boot. On top of that my parents came to stay with my husband and I and they are not concerned with healthy eating. They bought lots of junk food and while they were here we either ate out or cooked fried foods. It put in motion the hole I am trying so desperately to dig out of right now. I am getting back to working out now, but my sweet tooth is so strong right now. My question is what do many of you do to curb that craving. I can't do the sugar free stuff as the fake sugars give me migraines. I don't usually dump on sugar. I am asking this group because I know I will get honest feedback. If I tell my family I will get the typical oh no you are too smart to gain the weight back, but it is my biggest fear. This group here are the only people to truly understand the demons we are facing. Please help me.
  6. I am going to be honest with you. Your relationship with her will be different after your surgery. You need to be prepared for that. This is more than a weight loss journey. This surgery makes you face things that you did not know were there. I have confronted things within myself that I did not realize were there. Most of it is good, but there have been some dark sides that have come up. Here is a small example: since losing my weight I have discovered I love being a woman. What I mean by that is that I have been a Tom boy all my life. I hated dress and purses and all things womanly. Now all I want to buy is dresses and cute shoes and purses. So a few days ago I had the thought of maybe I was a Tom boy to hide the fact that I was overweight. All your relationships will change most of all your relationship with yourself. The best thing to do is talk about it with your love ones. Tell her your fears and thoughts. I know as women this can be tough, but if you want this journey to strengthen your relationship you must be open and honest. I hope this helps.
  7. I love eating salads. However the firs few times I noticed that creamier salad dressing made me sick.
  8. I would make sure you tell everyone you are a hard stick. Also make sure you drink lots and lots of water the day before surgery. It will help hydrate you. You can also ask for a warm compress to help make the veins pop up. You are the patient and if a nurse comes in and does not take her time finding a vein politely ask for someone else. I am a really really hard stick. I have had to get IVs in my foot before. I had a bad experience with the hospital that did my weight loss surgery. I have something called a medi-port in my chest for iv access. I receive monthly iv medication and I was not going to have then start an iv every time. They got me all set and the anesthesiologist said they would not use the port during surgery and they had to start and iv. He said they would knock me out using the port and do the iv when I was asleep. I said fine no problem. I woke up to find that they tried 11 times to get an iv started. I have a theory that they invited all the student nurses and doctors down to try to get an iv on a hard stick patient. Thank fully I was fully asleep and did not feel the needle that many times. As long as you go into it knowledgable you will be fine. Remember you are the patient and don't deserve to be stuck multiple times. For me when they would try to use the numbing medication my veins would go into hiding. Best thing you can do is drink a lot of water the night before. If your doc says nothing after midnight - I would be drinking a bottle of water at 11:45.
  9. As I got further in my journey the weight loss has slowed. In fact I stopped getting on the scale everyday because it never really changed. I weighed myself this week and I had actually dropped a few more pounds. I am also still losing inches because my pant size is still getting smaller.
  10. It will get better, but it will take time. I could finally quench my thirst at about 4 months
  11. Tomato soup should be fine. They are talking mainly about cream of chicken - they don't want you to eat chunks of chicken or veggies.
  12. I live in north richland hills. I went to dr barker and my surgery was 6-5-12. I love dr barker and his staff.
  13. It's not done. You are at a stall, and at this time you are losing inches. Just give it some time. Make sure you are following your plan and the weight loss will start back.
  14. Please get them resized or don't wear them. I bought one of the plastic thing to keep mine on my finger better. I took my band off one day at work in the bathroom to wash my hands and forgot about it. Someone came into the bathroom and stole it. It broke my heart.
  15. I was allowed to play soccer after 6 weeks. I played in an indoor game 6 weeks on the dot and trust me it was tough. I had no energy and had horrible dry mouth. I could not really drink water very well and had to suck on ice. About 8 weeks out it was much easier to play. I learned to suck on the ice to stay hydrated and I started feeling like myself again.
  16. Most on the list look to be anti inflammatories. My doc said that each person is different. There are meds on this list that I have taken since my surgery. So if you have any questions about meds please consult with your surgeon and regular doctor.
  17. I just wanted to wish everyone a good Memorial Day. This day is always special to me as I have many family and friends that have served or plan to serve our country. We would not be here without their sacrifice. I also say a big thanks to the family of soldiers. They sacrifice just as much as the solider. Also stay strong on this day of cook outs and family gatherings. I know it is tough sometimes seeing people eat like we used to, but the reward greatly out weighs the struggle to remain on program.
  18. I don't count my calories. My doc said if you are eating lean and clean calories will not matter. Always eat protein first. Protein has 4 calories per 1 gram.
  19. Never wait or hesitate, get in gear before its to late you may never get another chance. Rod Stewart - 1976 - The Killing of Georgie Do you see the sun - it's a brand new day Oh, the world's in your hands, now use it What's past is past, don't turn around Brush away the cobwebs of freedom Phil Collins - 1996 - Dance into the Light
  20. Keep your chins up everyone. Every thing will fall into place and the weight and inches will fall off. I would encourage you to stop stepping on the scale. The scale can be your worst enemy during a stall. Find another way to measure your success. Stay focused on your plan and remember that we did not gain weight over night and our bodies will not lose it over night. Please don't compare yourself to others because we are all so different. It will just cause you more stress. For those still under the 3 months mark - give your bodies a chance to heal and catch up to all the changes. We have just completely messed with our bodies. You could be in starvation mode and your body is throwing a temper tantrum. It wants to hold onto everything you put into it. It believes you are never going to eat again. Finally Get in your Protein, Water and exercise. Stay positive and try not to stress out as it will only make your body madder at you. My final thought on this - instead of making your goals all about the numbers and scale think of a new goal. Write on a piece of paper the non scale victories you want and when you reach them scratch it off. For example here were a few of my goals: Play soccer without pain Get into the police academy Fit into a size 16 Run a 5k As I meet some goals I add new ones. You are changing everyday and the journey will be very rewarding and you will learn so much about your self. Please stay positive and reach for your dreams! They are possible!
  21. I am 11 months out and vomit every once in a while. I can't not find a reason as to why I get sick. One of my theories is that my pouch has PMS about once a month.
  22. I have found that after taking the one bite it is not as satisfying as I thought it would be. However there are some foods where I try that theory out and I end up eating more than one bite. The great thing about this is that you physically can not eat what we use to.
