This mornings weigh in gave me such motivaton to keep on going! I now weigh 299 for the first time in at least 16 years. I simply could not hold back the tears!! It has been a journey, but I must say a very easy one so far. I have had no sickness, I am feeling great and have really started to embrace this new lifestyle with joy. I look forward to my morning workouts, I actually look for extra walking to do around work too! Never in my life would I have thought I'd look for ways to exercise!
I just cannot express how over joyed I am this morning!!

Today I jumped on the scale and I'm down to 209! 4 months ago I was 287, and my highest was 330. It's hard because some days I don't see the difference but I would never change a thing! Through the ups and downs I am so happy with my decision to have this surgery!

Hi all. Sorry I've been away for a couple of days---back to work! So, here are my suggestions for you:
Pre-Op: Hang in there! You can do this! It's a long haul during the liquid diet, but it truly is for your benefit. Get all your last minute questions ready for the surgeon.
Hospital: Wear something very comfy for surgery day and plan to wear the same thing home from the hospital if you can. (less to keep track of while you're there). The hospital should have most everything you need but you might want small items of your own toiletries (toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, etc) as the hospital ones are, well, medicinal and pretty generic. Remember your phone and charger. You won't need alot else besides possibly a magazine or book to read--more while you're waiting and less after surgery. While recovering, you'll be busy walking, being checked by nurses, and sleeping. You'll NEED the recovery time in the hospital just to rest. Chapstick would be a good thing to bring along and also don't forget any feminine or incontinence products you might need as the hospital's are AWFUL if you have to get one from them. If you get nervous or anxious with medical procedures, ask your surgeon to prescribe something (like Xanax) for you to help with this. Most gladly will.
Post-Op: Give yourself at least a week of doing nothing but resting and being at home. Plan to have someone there to help you for at least the first few days. Know that you will leave the hospital at least 5 - 10 pounds HEAVIER than when you went in. Don't worry! It's all Water and Fluid retention and will be gone very quickly. Also, don't be surprised if you have itching across your abdomen as you heal. It can be crazy itchy. Some are helped by Cortaid Anti-Itch spray and others are helped more by Benedryl Anti-Itch spray. The one that helps you most will depend upon the cause of the itching. If it's just healing itch, the Cortaid will help. If there's a bit of an allergy/histimine reaction (to either the sutures, the Steri-strips, or the bandage adhesive) then the Benedryl will work better. Speaking of bandages, when you have bandage residue on your skin (and you will!), use a cotton pad with baby oil or olive oil to remove the last of the stick stuff.
Those are the things top of mind for me. I'm sure others will have input to add. To those of you going in for surgery in the next few days, best of luck to you! You'll be fine.

9 month ago, I started my life changing journey. I am currently 117lbs less. I a able to do thing like Zumba, play at Bounce U with my kids-even play on the house and obstacle courses with them, walked a marathon, was able to ride some roller coaster rides, walk 3 miles in 45 mins. I still have a long ways to go. I have faith in myself and wonderful support. My support comes from my family, friends and you guys. Thank you so much for the encouragement. I have been slowing down on the weight loss now. I do have to say frightens me a little. Yet, I believe this is normal. The rest of it is truely up to me to excercise. Thanks again

    Hi everyone,
Thanks for the Protein advice. My surgery is set for August 27th so I am reading up on what works/doesn't. I'm 42. I thought I wanted the band but my doctor convinced me that RNY was the way to go for my size and other health conditions. I am glad that is what I decided to go with. I started my 2 week Optifast diet today. So far it's okay but I'll see how I feel in a few days of being on this. I haven't found anything that I like yet. The chocolate premade shake had a metallic taste, I thought. Anyway, glad to be here and to see all the tips, and advice.

Once cleared, I plan on training for next years Avon Breast Cancer Walk in San Francisco. 33.9 miles. I did it in 2009 (while weighing280lbs) and since then have had surgery on both knees and now my RNY. I can't wait to feel the difference when I don't have so much to carry with me.

I too am afraid of failing, but feel like after all the work and tears I've put in to have this surgery I won't allow myself to. My worst habit pre-op was fast food, and now that I'm almost a month out and eating healthy I've gotten all the MSG and saturated fat out of my system and don't really want to eat unhealthy anymore (regardless that I'd get sick if I did anyways). It's all about starting and keeping good habits in the beginning so after a few years post-op when you're able to eat larger quantities and more unhealthy foods that you choose not to. The gastric bypass is not a cure for obesity, it is quite literally a "restart button" that allows you to get thin and not fuck it up again. Welcome, you're going to do great :]
