  1. I was told once all the skin glue came off. It took almost 4 weeks. If you have steri-strips I think they want you to wait until they all fall off too.
  2. It's one of the symptoms of your body being thrown into ketosis. It will go away in a couple if days.
  3. I have Anthem bcbs and was approved in two weeks, maybe less. It only took me a month from my first office visit till my surgery. I think it may have all happened too quickly. Take the extra time you have to do your research and make sure your head is on straight. The time will fly by and you'll do great!
  4. I was so excited when i went to CVS last night and found liquid acetominophen for adults. I bought two Rapid Burst Cherry Flavor. Then I got home and looked at the label. The third inactive ingredient is high fructose corn syrup. Has anyone tried this and dumped with it? I want something that will help me with pain, not make me sick!
  5. 1. Having my shoulder strap on my purse actually stay on my shoulder. 2. Being able to pull my jeans up and down without unbuttoning or unzipping. 3. Crossing my legs like a lady instead of a lumberjack. 4. Officially having only 1 backroll instead of 2. 5. No more boobie bulge and almost bursting button on my blouses. Try saying that 5 times fast... 6. Having to wear a belt with my uniform pants and having several coworkers tell me I need to get new uniforms because mine were just "too big" Some times it's just the little things that make life seem so much brighter.
  6. Before I moved to California I lived in Madison Heights. Not too far from Fraser! A million years ago I had a boyfriend that lived in Fraser
  7. You must be very tall because you look a lot lighter than your posted weight to me!
  8. I spent my early childhood years in Levittown Pennsylvania. I lived most of my life in Michigan (Metro Detroit area). I have been living in Pomona in Southern California for a little over 4 years. I work in Santa Ana I had my Surgery at Chapman Medical center in Orange, CA
  9. Starting weight 234 Surgery day 4/30/12 215 Last week 185 This week 182 I've done zero exercise this week because of back pain. It's getting better so hopefully next week I'll lose a few more pounds than this week. I'm still happy with 3 pounds though! :-)
  10. I thought my knee pain would be gone after losing 50lbs but it's not. I think mine is just damaged past the point of no return.
  11. Could be from the intubation. It never hurts to call the doc.
  12. Ok, do I have had serious back issues for years. I have the worst muscle spasms to the point that it has affected the natural curvature of my spine, not to mention I have arthritis due to my excess weight. Just a couple weeks ago I was commenting to a friend that although my knees didn't feel much better yet, my back was feeling fine. Then I went in vacation took a 6 hour flight to and from Hawaii and BAM! I'm right back to where I was before surgery. I tried taking my muscle relaxers prescribed to me before I had surgery. They had no effect on me whatsoever. I think it must be a malabsorption thing. My biggest problem is pain relief. I used to take NSAIDs, aleve or Advil and they really helped. Now I can take nothing but Tylenol which is absolutely useless for my back pain! Help! Has anyone had the same issues and been able to find an alternative they actually works? I had to call in work yesterday because i could barely walk and I used up all my sick time for my surgery. Sorry for the ramble but I really need to vent. I've literally felt disabled since Friday and I could just cry and I need some kind of pain relief. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
  13. Good job! Congrats to you!
  14. We were all incredibly nervous. That's totally normal. Your life will definitely change and it will be challenging at first. I will be 9 weeks post-op tomorrow and every day is still a learning experience. I will never regret having my surgery. It was the best decision I ever made.
  15. Sci-phi I am in Pomona too!
  16. I have the same problem! I thought it was just me. It makes driving uncomfortable too.
  17. Starting weight 234 surgery date 4/30 @215 lbs Last week 189 This week 185 Not too much weight lost but I've reached my second personal goal. My next gaol is to be at 163 so I am no longer in the OBESE range for my BMI
  18. This isn't about sweets but it is about food mourning. Last night my fiancé and I went to Lucille's BBQ. It's one of his favorite places and if you haven't been there, it's phenomenal! He had been pouting all week since I had to work on fathers day and we didn't get a chance to go out. I was very good and just had a couple small slices of tri-tip (no sauce) and a few bites of mashed potatoes. But that's not the story I want to tell..... The place was packed. As I looked around, I realized that nearly every table had at least one person sitting at it that was obviously morbidly obese and they were literally gorging themselves. I had so many mixed emotions. At first I felt bad that I could not eat like they were. The food is so delicious and lets face it, you go to a place like that to eat till you're about to burst. I also felt bad for them. I wanted to go to every single table and tell them they didn't have to live like that and there was help for them. Lastly, and what I am so absolutely ashamed of, I was actually sickened by what they were doing to themselves. After all, just two months ago I was one of those morbidly obese people shoveling huge quantities if food in my belly. I have never and WILL NEVER be one of those people that will judge someone on their appearance or weight, however, I just couldn't stop myself from feeling disgusted. I suppose it made me realize just how lucky I am that I had the courage and the means to have this surgery. It made me realize that feeling healthy is so much more fulfilling than eating a huge delicious meal. I'm looking forward to losing more weight and feeling better every day. It's a wonderful feeling to wake up every day and feel even a tiny bit thinner than the day before. I used to wake up because I was in pain. Literally, I didn't even need an alarm clock! Now I wake up laying flat on my back (something I could never do before) and I have to feel my tummy to make sure it really is smaller and it hadn't all been a wonderful dream. Instead of missing youre birthday cake, Celebrate yourself! You are a beautiful woman and now you will be healthy and beautiful too! There is nothing worth celebrating more than being healthy.
  19. I have anthem bc/bs and I was approved in less than two weeks. As a matter of fact I had my surgery after just one month of my first doctors appt. The surgical center I went to had me fill out a lot of stuff online and I was fortunate enough to be able to take my psych evaluation over the phone as the psychologist said I didn't "raise any red flags". All of this happened before I actually stepped foot into their office. I had to cram a lot of appts into a short period of time, sometimes two or three a day but that was really convenient for me and my work schedule. My BMI was 40.1 and I didn't really have any complications due to my weight except for arthritis. my total out of pocket was about 3000. But that was my fault for picking the least expensive coverage option at open enrollment last October. Totally time was about 6 weeks after my first inquiry online. It all happened so fast sometimes I wake up in the morning and have to feel myself to make sure it wasn't all a dream. I hope everything goes smoothly for you as well.
  20. Preop weight 234 Surgery day 4/30/12 215 Today 6/22/12 188 Definitely losing slowly but happy I'm still losing and feeling great!
  21. Welcome and congrats on your upcoming surgery. You will do just fine! Let us know how it goes.
  22. Oh, and I was 215 the day of surgery, after losing 19 pounds preop. I'm now 189 7 weeks out. I'm losing slowly. The doctors seem to think I'm doing great though. Whatever, all I know is I feel so much better now!
  23. I have suffered with palpitations for years as well. I had some the night I got home after surgery. I was exhausted-usually a trigger for mine. It scared the heck out of me but I was so tired I just knocked out I'm 7 weeks post-op and I've lost a total of 45 pounds. I've also cut my caffeine intake by about 90%. I'm sure both of things played a major role. No palpitations since that day. Fingers crossed. My periods have always been super heavy and last more than a week sometimes. I've only had one since surgery so I hope to see some improvement there. Miraculously I have only tested anemic a couple times in my adult life. I hope you get the relieve you're looking for.
  24. Thanks all. This guy is someone I have always avoided talking to because frankly, I think he's a total weirdo. It just sort of kept echoing in my head as soon as I grasped what he had said to me. Work has always been somewhere that I felt valued because of my skills and my personality and a comment like that just cut to the bone. I think self esteem is something most of us have or had issues with and it's been a problem for me ever since I was a child. Now that my protective layer (my fat) is going away, I feel more vulnerable than ever.
