Pain Meds
Did you have your surgery laproscopically or was it an open incision? Either way, I would take them if you need them. Everybody is different. My surgery is going to be open, but I have a grand-daughters dance recital 4 days later. Do you think I can do that?

7 Days
I am on day 5 of the liquid protein diet and I'm getting depressed. I want a double hamburger so badly. I don't get why some do this for 30 days, some, 7 days...I'm just ready to have something real. I feel your pain ladies. You're not alone!

Gastric Bypass Surgery Date
Yep! I am worried about it. I'm 57 and I'm real concerned about it,but I have made this commitment and I'm going to see it through. If I have to have skin removal surgery later on I will. Btw, i'm 5'5" and weigh 270, so I'm going to have some skin issues for sure.

Negative People Around Me...
I'm going to " weigh in " no pun intended on this subject, too. Blankmama, I'm a little older than some of the patients doing this. Here is what I have to say...My kids and grandkids are supportive and totally on board. My sister who I really rely on for support, of course, this time was very clear when she told me Don't do it. Well, of course she's no where near what i weigh and it's not her life. I"m doing this. I have prayed and believe in God's direction. Bottom line, is everyone has opinions and most people feel the need to express them whether they are asked for or not. Just ignore them. Honey, this is YOUR decision, no one else's. You do what is RIGHT for you, and tell the rest of them to " shut it".

What Do You Tell People?
I would probably just tell people who ask, " I watched what I ate and exercised". That's all true and there is no need to reveal what you don't want people to know. I really dislike nosy people. Hope that helps.

Approved
My surgery is scheduled for May 1. I start the prep liquid diet this Tuesday. Kind of scared.

Walk, walk, walk...
Did you have to pay for the app or buy things to monitor your exercise?

Did Anyone Cheat On Pre-Op Liquid Diet?
Hi Diddle! I love reading your posts! I'm new to this so I don't always know how to post or comment, but here we go. The little protien bullets you talked about getting at Sam's Club...do you know the name of them, and the other thing is the Atkins shakes. Are they just called shakes or something else, and what is the best flavor? I start my Protein shakes on Tuesday for my surgery on the first. I'm not young at almost 58, and my surgery will be an open revision, but you know what...it's really my last chance to get rid of this weight. You inspire me. I was sad to read about the loss of your mother. I lost my mom about a year and a half ago. I still miss her and always will. If I can be of any help to you feel free to ask. What state do you live in? I'd love to find a buddy around here to partner with. Any suggestions? Kristen

- Open Surgery
I am so super glad to hear this! Do you mind if I ask if you're anywhere near my age? I'm 57. You look young to me. With diabetes and being at 280, I worry.- Filters
I had to have a procedure done today, where they went through my neck and inserted a filter into my vena cava to help prevent a blood clot from traveling after surgery. This not one bit pleasant! My surgery is May 1st.- Open Surgery
Hi Panda. The reason my surgery will be open is this. About 20 years ago, I had a "gastroplasty". Basically they fired 3 rows of staples into my stomach, pus a ring in at the bottom and I was supposed to lose weight. I did in fact lose. But as my current surgeon explained, the stomach tries to heal itself. It basically realized that there was something foreign there and began popping those staples lose. That surgery was done open, and so the dr. Figures it would be easier to open me up then try to work around the adhesions. I'm extremely scared. I'm almost 58 years old and have type 2 diabetes. I'm 5'5 and weigh 275. It seems like I'm eating everything I can think of now, knowing full well I won'tbe able to eat these things later. Do you think anyone else is doing this, too? My surgery date is May 1- Sooo Scared
My surgery is May 1, and I am scared too. This is the second gastric surgery for me so they are going to open me up. I have all kinds of health issues, and my Dr. Said it would save my life. I have family I love and want to see grow up, so it will be worth it. This site is great, and so supportive. I'm glad you joined the groups,- New Journey Starting In 3 Days!
Hi Ty! My name is Kristen. I understand being scared out of your mind. My surgery is May 1, and I'm worried about just getting through the liqid prep. I had a "gastroplasty" years ago where they opened me up, put in 3 rows of staples and a ring at the bottom. Of course, that all fell apart and now, I'm going to have a bypass where they are going to open me up from the old scar. I'm 57 years old, with bad legs which limits my walking, I weigh 276 and I'm scared out of my mind. I'm not saying mine will be worse, but I'm saying this is a great group of folks and they'll help us get through this. If I can help you in any way, please let me know. - Open Surgery
