  1. Yup...Want to know why you want the surgery so they can make sure it's for the right reasons such as health, more mobility, less aches and pains etc vs because you want to get a boyfriend/girlfriend, become popular etc. They do make sure you don't have an eating disorder, want to make sure you realize it's a life long decision and they want you to know you can call on them for any questions you have afterwards. They help make sure you're in the best mindset for the surgery and have realistic goals. I really liked my therapist and only had to see her for two required visits. I had started seeing a therapist who deals with food issues outside of the bariatric center before I even started with them just to make sure I have the tools I need to make the right decisions eating wise and dealing with the head hungry issues. But then again I've gone the bariatric route before with my lapband so I knew already that I wanted to make sure I had the help with this more permanent change. My lapband had to be removed after it prolapsed really badly - I had already had it revised once before. So having gained almost all my weight back I knew I wanted the help to keep me on the right track after this surgery as well. It's been a great help. There are a lot of great books that help too. Good luck with your appointments
  2. We're all here for each other mami...I hope you're doing well with your exercise and prep. You're date is going to be here quick. I'm sorry you don't have all the support you would like at home but, know you can come here anytime and we'll help out and support you all the way!
  3. We didn't have workshops with Tufts. I met with the therapist and nutritionist twice each but Tufts has something called an immersion day. We were there from 8am until 4pm and listened to the therapist, nutritionist, internist, office staff talk about the procedure, what we'll go through, what happens after and during your stay etc. Very informative. Everyones insurance puts requirements on the surgery too. Some insurances require a 6 month diet first etc. Lots of factors out there depending on where you have it done and what insurance you have. How many workshops do you have to go to?
  4. It's important to have help all along the way. You're surgeon and the bariatric group especially the therapist to help us along the way. USE THEM! There are also many, many books out there that help get things in the right perspective. You'll be fine as long as you remember where you came from and take the help along the way. Have you had the surbery yet>
  5. Also wanted to ask ....how many have had their surgeries already and how many are on the way? Basically where are you in the process?
  6. I got my surgery date 6/6. Wahooo...nervous and happy at the same time. Pre-op is on Monday, 5/21. I'm having it done at Tufts Medical Center in Boston with Dr. Abeles. Anyone from the Taunton area in here?
  7. Thank you. I'm very excited and nervous all at the same time. Can't wait to have the help to lose weight though.
  8. It's been quite a process but, I've finally been given a date for my revision surgery! June 6th they told me today. Zoiks, saw the nutritionist at 8am this morning and within hours after her telling me she gives her approval I got the call. June 6th is the date so far, just need to get a medical surgery approval letter from my PCP and approval from the insurance company. Preop work May 21st and off I go. I'm excited and nervous which I know is natural. Still a scary thought having my inner works re-worked but, I know it's the best choice for me. I did well with my lapband until the dang thing slipped TWICE! So I know I can do this and the proper way to eat etc. I'm so looking forward to losing these extra love handles and getting to a healthier me. Thank you for your support and friendship here and I look forward to our continued journies together. Crossing my fingers for all the paperwork to go as it has to

  12. No more trouble after this post Law? Hope you're doing well
  13. Best thing to do is always to call your bariatic center/surgeon to find out what they recommend. Each group is different but, in the end if you end up with an issue at least you followed their instructions so they know the next step to take.
  14. Good luck Armywifet, You're going to do great! Stay with us, keep us posted and we'll help each other along the way! Remember there is lots of information out there and what you can't find or read about come and ask! Good luck!

  20. Hello everyone, I thought it would be a great idea to start a thread to find out some helpful hints on how to slow down our eating after bypass surgery. Are there any tips you can give? Here are mine: Use baby utensils - they're smaller so you pick up less food. Put your utensils down between each bite. Sit only at the kitchen table so you're paying attention to eating and not other things around you. Use small horderve size cookie cutters to cut lunch meat, cheese etc - fun and it cuts down the bite size Any others people can suggest?
  21. Oh so sorry that happened. I have a feeling it happens to the best though and that's how we really do learn just how slowly we have to eat. I know when I finally have the surgery it's going to be mostly shakes for me at work. For home I bought baby utensils to use so that I remind myself to slow down. Any other tricks folks use might be a great thing to share on a separate thread!
  22. Head hunger CAN be tough to say the least. I had it with my lapband and heck still do. One thing I try to do is when I start craving something or "think" I'm hungry, I'll sip at my Water more. If after a few sips it goes away then it's head hunger...if it's still there and my stomach feels achy then I know I'm really hungry. Hopefully that will still work for me when I have the RNY
  23. How is the sugar content in those Law? vamp - I don't think I ever answered you on the PB2. It's Peanut Butter powder...basically peanut butter with the fat taken out of it. YOu can mix it into your Protein drinks for added protein and it helps with the after taste of some protein powders.
  24. Don't give in you can do it
