  2. thinking of you! Hope you're doing well after your procedure.
  3. my bariatric center requires you stay in the hospital 2 nights.
  4. I just got an ok from the therapist. Next step is the nutritionist but, I don't see her until May 15th. I've lost 9 pounds so far....11 more to go to meet the surgeon's requirements.
  5. Therapist visit tomorrow for me then the nutritionist next month. More reading to do though need to finish that book.
  6. Have you had your surgery JenniferD?
  7. Thanks! It's the Losing part that's the hardest...isn't that why we're here in the first place. I know it's to prepare your liver for surgery...makes it easier to get it out of the way but, yeesh 20-24 pounds is alot. I'm trying though! I'm going to try out the chat if anyone is interested By the way I'm going through Tufts Medical Center's Weight and Wellness Center in Boston
  8. I'm curious if anyone post surgery wears a medical alert bracelet or necklace to let EMTs and Emergency Room docs know not to blindly incubate? I've seen them online but, folks that have had the surgery at work aren't wearing them. Anyone's doctors recommend them?
  9. I just tried the Pure Protein chocolate and really like that one. They have Vanilla also. Each has 25G of protein. I got it at Walmart. I also tried Matrix Mint Choc cookie and it was good too but, more for an afternoon shake for me.
  10. Hello law - sorry for the heck you've been going through. I hope you're feeling better soon! Did you already have a cold or something prior to surgery or came down with pnemonia because of the surgery? Hey KB! I'm doing ok. I've seen the nutritionist and started the low carb, high Protein stuff...it's not easy but, I'm getting there. So only 9 days for you...wow! Do you have to do a pre-op diet? Welcome JenniferD and Tammy...hope you're doing well. I have 3 more requirements besides the losing 20 pounds to go. I have to attend a post-op meeting, doing that tomorrow...see the therapist, doing that Thursday and then another visit to the nutritionist that's next month. Then hopefully a date after that.
  11. Hello law....would be nice to get thing moving along.
  12. Congrats on your surgery. I hope recovery is going well for you
  13. I thought I'd start this thread for Massachusetts, USA folks who are going through or have have Gastric Bypass. Come on Massachusetts folks...join all in. We neighbors can help each other.
  14. Always remember the final decision is yours. Folks who think it's the "easy way out" or is unsupportive probably has more fear than knowledge about the surgery or the decision making we all have to do to even start this process. It's far from easy no matter where you are in the process. As much as we'd all love to have the love and support of everyone in our world it will never happen and there will always be nay sayers but, in the end.....when we wake up in the morning to the time we go to sleep, WE have to live with ourselves. We have to carry this shell, this burden we've been carrying for so long and the pain physically and mentally that comes with it. The decision is yours and as long as you've made it with lots of insight, research and as much knowledge as you can gain about it......then you're doing the right thing for you. You go girl and do what you know is right for you. Good luck!
  15. I'm there with you gals. I had my lapband put in place Feb 2006, had to have revision surgery Dec 2008 because of a slight slip and then an emergency surgery to remove it in Jan 2010 because of a really bad prolaps to the point where the acid was cooking me from the inside out and I couldn't keep anything down. I've gained all but 20 pounds of what I lose I'm in the process of going through the loops to get the gastric bypass or revision from lapband to gastric bypass as my surgeon is calling it. It's considered revision even though I no longer have the band. I've gone to quite a few appointments already and have 1 more visit each to the nutritionist and therapist, have to attend one post op meeting prior to surgery and have to complete reading 1 required book. The hardest thing.....I have to lose 20-24 pounds before the surgery will be allowed. I know it's so that my liver will shrink but, man this is the hardest part. Nutritionist has me taking 1 protein shake to replace a meal and to stick with proteins over carbs. Keep it low carb much like Atkins. I"d love to keep in touch with you folks as well if you're game
  16. Hello Sweet. I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Have you contacted your surgeon?
  17. Mtjoy congrats on your surgery and sounds like your recovery is going well Can't wait to get to the losing side.
  18. Kay are you doing better now after all that? I mean are you able to follow the plan your dietician/nutritionist gave you etc. I hope you're doing better.
  19. berniec - I never liked veggies either and still have a hard time with most but, you know what's worked for me of all things? Grilling or roasting the veggies. ON the grill I LOVE asparagus..I pick the ones that are very thin, snap off the bottoms, spray them with an olive oil filled spritzer and put garlic powder and a little salt. Then lay them on the grill and cook them well. I like them a little charred so you see the lines. YUMMY. I do the same thing with eggplant, peppers, zucchini and squash. Give it a whirl. In the oven I use the same olive oil spritzer, garlic powder and a little salt on turnips and roast them. Yummmm. I never in my life thought I'd eat those white and purple things
  20. got the rest of my appointments set up today Surgeon says the process will take about 2 months. We'll see how it all goes. The losing of 10% body weight begins tomorrow.....low carb, higher protein diet for now until I see the nutritionist in a few weeks
  21. Hi kb.....tried to reach you through PMs and through the email you gave me. Did you get them? I'd love to work on a group in Mass
  22. Being on the liquid diet before the surgery helps shrink your liver so the surgeon can move it out of the way easier for the surgery plus it helps keep our intenstines cleaner for the surgery. It's certainly not the easiest thing to do but, you can do it! Just think in a few weeks you'll be on the losing side of surgery
  23. Good luck YoungNY. I wish you the best with your surgery and recovery. Let us know how you made out.
  24. Southeastern Massachusetts
  25. Hey folks....I'm nervous too but, I would think if we weren't at least a little nervous that THAT would be something to be nervous about It's a big step, a big surgery and nothing to laugh about for sure but, if we keep gaining we'll have many more things to be nervous about. So good for you for being nervous. Do your studying, your research and become full of the knowledge you need to help yourself after surgery to the best of your ability. We can all help each other here too I had the lapband and had problems with it. The port didn't bother me at all, the needles to fill the band actually didn't hurt at all but, the band being too tight or too loose didn't help and then the slip was terrible. I'm looking forward to no having to have fills with this. It's a big step and it took a long time for me to stop thinking of it as cutting up my guts but, to think of it as a life saving re-routing The tool that will help me stay on plan and get healthy. That's right...we CAN do this!
