Beginning My Gastric Bypass Journey...first Visit Tomorrow
Hi startingover....sorry I missed your post. It's been quite a journey for me and I haven't been on the boards as much. The recovery wasn't bad although because I had a really bad prolaps I did have to stay in the hospital for 3 days with an NG tube. It got that bad..then I stayed 1 more day because of snow and they didn't want me traveling in it. Otherwise once I was home it was super quick and I was back to work the following Monday. So I've had to start my gastric bypass journey again due to my PCP wanting me to see the bariatric group associated with the medical group she's in. It's actually a nicer place than where I was going and I'm happy about the change now. I attended my information meeting on 3/12 and now I'm seeing the surgeon and therapist on 3/29. They said because this is still considered revision surgery the process will be quicker for me. I sure hope so, because I want to get on the losing weight side of this whole thing. I don't want to gain anymore to say the least. I'm hoping for surgery by summer...not sure how it will all go but, looking forward to getting the help to beat this weight battle.

Looking To Start The Gastric Bypass Buddy Threads
Hello KB I haven't had my surgery.....I had to restart the process. I had my lapband removed 2/2010 and went back to that surgeon in Oct 2011 for gastric bypass but, after talking with my PCP she wants me to see the bariatric group involved with her practice. So started the process back up. Attended my seminar on 3/12 and now seeing the surgeon and psych therapist on 3/29 to get the ball rolling. I was told this is still considered revision surgery so will go quicker than someone who hasn't had the lapband or gastic prior. That got me excited and I can't wait to get started. Did you get the date of your surgery today?

In the meantime why not take this time to research the boards and internet, learn more about the process that you're going through and how to get the best results. There are tons of books out there too. I love doing the research and getting more info...the more you know the more empowered you will be Congrats and I wish you both the best!

March 21St My Surgery Date And I Am So Excited!
Panda, I would think there was something wrong if you had NO anxiety. I think it's perfectly natural to have it because it is a big decision and a serious surgery. But RNY has been around for a long time and surgeries have become so much more advanced as well as the testing to make sure things are ok before they close you up from the surgery. I know I'm nervous and I've only started the process and I've had lapband surgery with two revisions already prior. But if you know this surgery is for you and in the end it's going to help you out...concentrate more on that Good luck!

Have I Made My Final Decision?
Hello Tx I just came back from my information night and they basically stated the sleeve is available but, most insurances don't pay for it and because of the staples used, there is a high risk of ulcers and bleeding. They do do tests to make sure the bleeding doesn't happen but, they said just like a staple when stapling paper sometimes they don't close all the way. They also said there isn't long enough studies on the sleeve for them to give info more than 5-6 years out like they can with the lapband or RNY. So with that, they think the RNY is the better surgery because of the results they already know. Just what I learned today anyway. I was already set on the RNY after having had the lapband already. I just know for me I need the malabsorbtion to help me get to my goal. Definitely do your research and I wish you the best with your surgery.

Gaining Weight
Hello Luvmetru, Have you considered calling your nutrionist from your bariatric center and starting up with them again? Maybe a few visits to get you started on the right track again so you can lose the weight? I know it's not easy, we're all here because it's not easy, that's for sure. I wish you the best and hope you find what helps to kick things back up for ya.

failure of bypass
well...we have the surgery to help us not be as hungry and to lose weight but, along with it it's a total mental game. WE fixed our digestive system but, we also need to work on fixing our head - break old habits, figure out what causes us to over eat, learn to mindfully eat...learn to not eat our emotions. I think that's the hardest part of any weightloss surgery but, I'm SO ready for it. I've been working on the mental aspects of it for more than 5 months now and I truly feel it's going to help me with this surgery and after the surgery. it's true peeps who don't follow through with the eating rules and follow-up post op visits tend to gain it back or sometimes even worse, keep losing weight the unhealthy way. They don't eat their Protein, don't take their Vitamins.....that to me is a risk I'm not willing to take. That to me is someone who didn't do the work prior to having the surgery. Pretty scary. Do your homework before your surgery......follow the recommendations. WE're not perfect but, we certainly can do the best we can with the tools we have and THAT will make us successful

Success

I'm switching doctors because my insurance changed in the middle of the process. LUcky me! Anyway, I'm starting the process all over again this time going through the Wellness and weightloss center at Signature HealthCare in Brockton, MA. If all goes well I'll be having my surgery at Tufts Medical Center in Boston and the follow-up stuff in Brockton. FIrst meeting is March 12!
