I was terrified of losing my hair. I thought if I did not get the bypass it wouldn't happen. Yesterday I saw a serious amount of shedding and I tried to deny it. Now that read these post I have to face it. Snaps! Guess I'll just go short and deal with it because I feel so much better with just the 30 lbs I've lost so far.

I'm one year out and almost to goal. Lost it starting around 5 months to 8 months. A tun would come out during shower. Now at one year it stopped at 9 months and coming back 10 fold! Don't stress it comes back!

    Yummy,
First did your surgeon give you any post op diet recommendations? I don't think they would include ice cream do they? What "kids' meals" are you eating? If they are eating hamburgers and fries, that is not going to help you lose weight.
What exercise are you doing? The studies I've seen, you have to exercise. You may not feel that it is doing good but the fact remains without exercise, its just going to be worse.
    Does the tea have calories?
Are you getting in the right amount of lean Protein and veggies.
    Those are my recommendations.

I want to apologize. It bothers me that people don't feel comfortable coming to get support because they feel negative about it.
I do not advertise my size or photos or weight or anything online for the most part due to this issue. I saw it become a "race". No one needs that.
What about a dedicated area for "slower losers"? Would that help? Would focusing on just losing help?
I got a lot of flak about the weight loss and I come from a different viewpoint but the fact remains I didn't get the support from my surgeon that I felt he should and could have given. So I'm sympathatic to peoples' statements and want to know what they think might help.

Woohoo Ann! Good luck! You have had to wait a little and that is not a bad thing. As you wait, you learn more! I am just realize I am not really on track at 8 months out. I have to get busy! Do not think I am getting enough Protein in as I am still in diet mode (the NUT told me I was doing too much Protein at 3 months). This really is a process that is wonderful though!

Thank you I really do need help! how much do I eat how often? I'm not taking any Protein Shakes as they are horrible, I hate Water so I drink tea with sweetener, I was walking three miles a day x3 times a week but iv stopped as it didn't help with weight loss at all,I do take all my Vitamins and get monthly B12 injections,I'm hungry all the time I logged on MFP religiously for first 5 months averaged 900cals but iv stopped that too,I don't have set meals or food I just grab bits of the kids dinners I feel like I have no restriction lately and due to this intense heat iv been eating ice cream not much a little child's portion, I'm tired all the time but all bloods are normal, hair is coming out by the handful but I'm ok with that I'm just so sad that I haven't reach even halfway to goal like everyone else seems to be,I don't understand it I'm 38 I lost 10lbs in the 2 week pre op diet so I assumed that I could lose lots but that was the only time I lost a big amount, while I'm glad due to the sleeve I haven't gained I feel defeated and everyone around me who asks how much iv lost give me that look and say is that all?

Divorce is another "death". It is the death of a marriage. It is a painful process. I am still friends with my first ex I was married to 20 years. The second ex of 4 years I am lucky to have survived. The current husband of 20 years is the dessert, and proves to me it was all worth the pain I went through. There is HOPE for you and everyone else going through divorce, I promise. I hope one day they find the cause of ALS, and a cure. It is horrible. I have a friend who was diagnosed with lymphoma at 25. She is 35 now. Another dreadful condition. I am so sorry for your losses. Life is so not fair sometimes.

Sharpie, dear Sharpie. I feel the "I aged ,,,,,". I told my son's girlfriends Mother with a VENGEANCE please BEWARE she might hurt herself. One month later I went to sign papers at the funeral home for my son's headstone and there was his girlfriend's funeral notice. Screaming is an understatement. God Bless. This sure is off topic for weight loss surgery but I read and understand pain here.

I was sleeved in November and still losing hair, for 3 months. I have very fine, thin hair and I would be lost without my wig. I am afraid to use extensions because I feel they would pull more hair out so a wig was the only choice, except for visors. Now I look bald with a visor on. I have taken Biotin since before surgery. Worthless. I take lots of good Vitamins. Just unlucky I guess. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it helps others (not letting Constipation get the best of you). As I write this my hair is so thin I have to wear a wig when I leave home. My skin is sagging, my face is more wrinkled, but I love it anyway! Yummymummy32, most of us have experienced at least part of what you are going through. Make sure you seek medical help for the problems you are having. My husband and I were sleeved, and we can go out to dinner and pretty much do everything we want to except stuff our faces with french fries and other garbage. I sincerely hope things get better for you, and I believe it will. Here's a hug, Linda

Hi everyone. Just to update everyone. I had my surgery 5/12/14 & so glad I did. Thanks everyone for your feedback. I did not have any complications, little pain after 2 days & no nausea. I'm now on solid foods & trying to make good food decisions. Weight is a little slow coming off. I will loose a pound or two & then nothing for 2 or 3 days. I'm down 42 lbs & I'm happy about that.
My biggest issue is exercise. I'm on oxygen 24/7 & dragging around an oxygen tank is a big pain in the neck. I have a portable concentrator on wheels & weighs about 10 lbs but to go walking I have to drag it with me. Anyone else have this issue? If so, how do you handle it? On a positive note, I no longer have to use a cart when I go to Wal-Mart. I put my portable concentrator in a shopping basket & away I go.

I am 73 and had a band/sleeve conversion last May. (I want to say it was a piece of cake but that's a bad metaphor.) Everything went smoothly and with minimal discomfort. Mine was done in Mexico. I have lost the excess weight, wear size 8's and 10's and feel wonderful. I am still a compulsive eater because that's a head thing and you can't cure a head thing by cutting on the stomach. It is easier to deal with my urges to overeat now because eating too much hurts a lot, and consuming too many carbohydrates make me feel very sick. Besides, I kind of like not being fat so I tend to not want to screw that up. If your doctor feels you are a candidate for sleeve surgery and you want to change your life for the better GO FOR IT! Remember the first few months after surgery it is critical that you stay with the eating program that your doctor recommend so you heal properly and with out any negative incidents. Good luck and keep in touch. Remember 70 is the new 60 : )

I was sleeved 1 month before I turned 70. The operation was a piece of cake for me.. Almost no pain. And I have the lowest pain threshold ever. I'm out almost 6 months and have lost 80 lbs. Adjusting to a new way of eating is an on going process. I am also taking more meds than before because I need Vitamins and supplements. Getting in enough Protein and Fluid every day can be a challenge but it does get easier. I fill up quickly when I eat but I do feel hungry between meals. It has really been a miracle for me. I can do so many things I couldn't do before. Just going to the gym and showering and changing with no difficulty is worth it alone. I'm sure you've been through many, many medical tests to be sure you are a good candidate. I say go for it. It will improve your life Immensely . ML

Each one of us had different surgeons and different requirements. In the US you might have to have a cardiac clearance with a stress test, sleep study, bloodwork, chest x-ray, pre-op classes, pre-op diet, meet with a nutritionist and a psychologist, come off certain meds a week before surgery (especially blood thinners), fill out paperwork, etc. Good luck!
