Back at home after having my gall bladder removed today. Same day surgery. I now have 4 more little scars on my tummy, so with the 5 from the sleeve surgery I am now hosting 9! What fun!
Anyway, same type of procedure, and the gas pains are so far the worst part. GasX strips and capsules are helping. Haven't taken the Vicodin yet. I'll see if I can get by on Tylenol.
I'll be just Laying on the couch for the next few days.

My husband and I both being sleeved, me Nov. 18, and him Dec. 2, we had our first Thanksgiving alone and LOL we survived.
The holidays are the hardest, but missing food on one holiday is just a step in your journey. There is SF apple cider in the grocery stores. It will be worth it now to eat. Be thankful! Count your blessings!

I have found that if I take a small bite of food and chew it forever and a day it works. I am talking 1/4 tsp bite at a time. My doctor said mash cottage cheese with the back of a fork. But I am eating such a small amount it is hard to puree. Same with 1 egg I scrambled this morning. Almost 1 month post op and no problem.

If I get lots of the minced okra in it I will be very happy and leave off the Beans. I have been planning my gumbo since my surgery. As little as you will be able to eat, actually I think you can have some rice. My husband is a 35 year diabetic sleeved 12/2, and he will get NO rice. his BS was averaging 350 a day and is 100-120 since surgery.

I was sleeved Nov 18, my husband Dec. 2. I was in hospital 1 night, came home, no pain whatsoever, a little soreness. Thrilled. I went shopping 2 hours by the end of the week. Not hungry. Just follow the plan, it is designed to give you what you need. I am 22 days out, today I had two 4 oz shakes, popsicle, 1/2 can cream mushroom Soup, and will have yogurt soon. You might have head hunger but keep the Snacks out of the house so you wont be tempted. We have avoided functions for 2 months - and now plan to attend 2 parties, and I am instructing my husband what to do LOL.
You will be so happy, and surprised how this is not bad at all! Prayers. Dont read the negative posts please, about stalling and everything else. Ignore the scale. Or someone 2 weeks post op asking can I have chicken and rice. We have to be smart about this and you will be!!!! Good luck!

GoldyGirl, I am 67. I was not offended by you repeating what your husband said to you in anger, and your need to seek some emotional support here from people who have a heart.
I would like to say I have learned a lot in my years, and I implore you to get your backbone up and stand tall. You will beat these problems. Maybe you can seek out a counselor to talk to because you need someone to sit down and listen to you after your surgery. We all have made mistakes in our lives, no one is perfect. The New Year will come, and you will have a new lease on life, and will be able to get yourself healthy and happy.
God Bless you girl, you will be fine. Don't EVER let anyone make you feel less of a woman. Find a friend to help when you can, and most importantly, pray. There is happiness ahead. Focus. Merry Christmas.

Well I have 2 options: 1- be upbeat and take it in stride 2- maniacal rampage followed by imploding.
I'm not ready for the second option yet
I'm more into ripping off his facial hair and mounting it on my nightstand so I can see it before I sleep

Good posts Sue and Amazon. Lawyering up is not something to do lightly. But a good lawyer will tell you if there is malpractice in their opinion. There is too much unknown here by us about your situation Liz. Best wishes, as you do step back and think about your role in this situation. Hugs and happiness,

Document every detail. Get your family to document what they remember. Get it together. Warning, if you sue someone and a jury finds him not guilty of malpractice, you could be liable for his lawuer fees and court costs. You mist make sure you get excellent legal advice from an experienced lawyer, not some hotshot young lawyer who gushes words to make you happy.

Thank you so much. You all are right. I'm going to hang in there just fine. I may leave a little early. Just because I have not told anyone beside my husband about the surgery. I don't want them to ask me a million question about why I'm not eating. My family is very judge mental. That's why I decided not to tell them about the surgery.

Girls, let me say this. I love gumbo and I will be making it soon. I do my own version with the spices I love, adding everything I like. Rice will be the only thing to not add, but as a seafood/chicken gumbo, you can eat a healthy version and enjoy. I have taste tested a little taco sauce, spicy enchilada sauce on a tsp LOL, because I love spicy. I added medium taco sauce on a little refried Beans and yay, even that was good! Good luck!

Here are some low cal foods I enjoy for the holidays:
Heat milk or soy milk, add a little Splenda and stir in a dash of nutmeg.
sugar free hot apple cider mix (found by the hot cocoa mix)
Add a splash of milk or soy milk to coffee or Decaf with a couple tablespoons sugar free Torini pumpkin pie Syrup.
Spinach dip made with Greek yogurt instead of mayo and sour cream. Eat with baby carrots, sugar snap peas, and cucumber rounds as dippers.
Eat your favorite treat when not at home. If it's not bite size, share with someone else. (Newly post ops be careful when trying foods you haven't eaten post op)
    And some non food ideas:
    Burn holiday scented candles
Make crafts instead of Cookies with the kids
Get a new scented lotion and lipgloss

How are you doing Andrew? My husband was sleeved Dec. 2. Other than a problem with a catheter, he has done exceptional. His weight is similar to yours, and since surgery he has now lost 15 lbs. The numbers are not what matters though, it is the fact that he wakes up with a blood sugar of 100 rather than 300, and the same at night, after being on this eating plan. Incredible for his diabetes which has been so out of control for so long. Blood pressure is great also! Best wishes to you!!!

Really, you're pissed that she said pissed? Get over yourself.
Goldy, PJackson's probably right - unless he's always like this, he might just be feeling overwhelmed and scared and maybe just doesn't know how to tell you that. I hope things calm down for you soon, and Thursday's surgery resolves your health problems. In the meantime, you've always got support here on the boards!

My surgery is scheduled for 1:30 pm today, but we're having a snow storm in New England so we'll be getting an early start.
It's been a long road up to this point, but I feel very ready. My daughter was sobbing last night when she called from college and my wife is very worried, but I'm not as nervous as I expected to be. I feel confident that I've followed all of the instructions and am very comfortable with my surgeon, so it's time to remove 85% of my stomach and move on to the next phase of my life.

I find with my family that when I say things like, "My stomach…" and make a vague motion, not only do they not want to ask any further questions, they also don't really want me around in case it's catching.
You can only use that once though. :-)

Lots of encouragement here... I've been thinking the same thing! I start my pre op liquids the same day on the 13th. First thing when I told my fam...oohh NO gumbo for you!!! But I can do it! I've been working hard for months to get this surgery! I will be praying for you and hope you will be praying for me in return... Just think of the real reason for the season... Celebrating the birth of Jesus...not food...

When I was pre-op, I skipped a couple of events I thought I couldn't handle. I made modifications with a couple of fairly immediate post-op things (brought my own Soup, etc.) I learned that if I didn't make a big deal of it, people hardly noticed. I'm 7 weeks out now and have had quite a few things come up (holiday parties, etc…) including a luncheon and a party tonight. I'm also trying to get a workout in at 5:30.
So, the thing is, just a couple of months ago I would have had a couple of glasses of wine at the luncheon, bemoaned my bad choices, skipped the workout, and gone on to the party. And felt bad physically and mentally about what I had done. Yes, today will take a little more planning…but it will be so worth it because this is what I am choosing for my new life.
I'm nowhere near done but I am starting to look and feel better than I have in years. I can already tell that I look more "normal" and less "fat" although I still have 50 pounds to lose. So, I figure I can still have fun at these two events. Let's face it. It's really more about seeing people I love than it is about drinking wine and eating too much. But obviously for years the two things took equal billing. It's a mind shift, and maybe it's not easy but it is worth it.
This surgery is not easy to obtain, and pre-op is something you can do.

I started at 202(day of surgery, 211 preop diet) and I'm nearly 3 weeks out and only down 10.5 lbs! scale hasn't moved in 5 days! Not sure if bc I was smaller my stall maybe is earlier than the infamous 3 weeker?! Trying to stay positive I am eating a fraction of what I used to, it will eventually have to come off by laws of Science. Now I see how hard it would've been to continue diets bc I get to this point and give up and thanks to my trusty sleeve, I cannot!

    Sassy,
I like low fat lunch meats and cheeses, canned low fat chili, rotisserie chicken, canned tuna, shrimp and crab meat.
For the lunch meats and cheeses, early out, before I could eat bread, I rolled them together and ate it like that. For the chicken, I slice it and portion it, freezing what I can't eat fast enough. I freeze it in sandwich baggies. You can add the chicken to canned Soups, mix with mayo, or heat and eat with BBQ Sauce. Further out, it is good in salads too.
I buy the precooked minute rice in brown rice or whole gran medley. Each little cup is two servings. Just heat in the microwave.
I also buy meats from the precooked deli section. Not sure if you have a Whole Foods nearby but they have great cooked stuff and we eat so little it doesn't matter that it's pricey.
