I'm exactly two weeks from my surgery 1/6/14.
I've noticed that the closer I get, the more "crazy" my thought process towards it becomes.

"Maybe I don't really need this."
"This is irreversible and I love my stomach!"
"I know lots of people said they have had it done... but what if they aren't real?"

    Yes, I need it.
Yes, it's irreversible, but my stomach is causing a lot of problems. Begone, vile demon.
Yes, I know you people are real.

It's all anxiety and stress (wheeee holidays) but logic doesn't stop the panicky thoughts.

Have any of you gone through or are going through anything similar?
Did you do anything to relieve the stress?
    Any suggestions or helpful/hopeful comments?
Are you SURE you're real? *eyes you suspiciously*

I'm getting sleeved Dec. 31 and am hosting Christmas Eve at my house. My sisters offered to bring all the food (including some vegetarian options that I am allowed to have). I know it will be really hard to smell the ham and see the Desserts, but I feel like the pre-op diet is temporary and I can think about it that way. I certainly don't want to "fail" and not get the surgery! I think willpower can last two weeks. We will see!

This is an exciting time for you guys! You'll do great. Stick with your plan - and like another posted above me said, stay busy.
Green tea (and lots of it) helped me a lot during the pre-op diet. It helped curb the hunger and helped pass the time.

I think this is amazing. Three weeks after the sleeve, I realized my terrible foot pain was gone, with about a 25-lb. weight loss. Two years ago this pain began in my feet, and at first I thought it was arthritis in my feet, buying expensive foot creams that did not work. I just suffered at night. Finally saw an ad on tv about Lyrica and neuropathy, and my doctor prescribed it. After a month I had several blistering ugly reactions on my toes, and had to come off the med. Then 3 months ago I was prescribed Metformin for diabetes. Now I am off Metformin, hope I never have to take insulin (my husband has had diabetes 35 years), and no neuropathy. I am one happy woman. I can shop again (everyday for a few hours) knowing I won't be in agony at night.

Thanks, I just had surgery on the 17 and it's been really hard. Once I cried I finally felt better, it was like I needed to release some stress.

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from 1Day1Life4Now in Irritable Bowel Syndrome Pre-surgery
I would give up the sugar! I have had long term diverticulitis and irritable bowel syndrome. I am doing great a little over 1 month post op, and 3 months pre-op diet. My husband is diabetic and I was on metformin for diabetes, so we eat no sugar. You may have a problem with gas after your surgery, which causes pain. But the dumping and problems you can have from carbs, sugar and fried foods after surgery will cause you to steer clear from these foods. You may get by with a taste or two at times but I think there is always a risk. At a peer to peer meeting this week a lady described a terrible scenario after eating pineapple. Personally I don't want to experience this so I will leave the fruit alone. You and I have a long way to go and a lot to learn during this journey, and we have to do our best to follow the guidelines we are given. I have had no stomach problems following surgery, and I am focusing on eating healthy with Protein and Fiber (which is recommended for our stomachs), and hope to stay this way. All of us experience a problem with food at times in our life, and your stomach wasn't rejecting the cake. I guess it didn't want it. I also decided I will not go back on Diet Coke, after 4 months I know I do not need it and can live without it. Saving me some money! You will survive this with a new healthier YOU! Good luck!

My foot itself doesn't hurt but my heels hurt, found out that i have heel spurs, which i didn't have a few years ago, since picking up all this weight my heels have gotten worse, I tried pills, all types of things for the foot and heel but nothing works, I am hoping and praying that after I have my surgery and get alot of this weight off, my heels will go back to not hurting when I walk. December 30th isn't to far away and i'm anxious for my journey to begin!!!!

i was banded in 2006. i did well and lost around 75 lbs, wanting to lose another 20 or so. about a yr out the band slipped. i had a revision surgery and the dr replaced that band with another band. again about a yr later another slip and then i opted to have it taken out. he mentioned the sleeve to me after that but since i was of a more normal weight i didn't want to take that option. myself and dr thought id be able to maintain my loss. well over the past 4 years or so i regained all the weight. i wouldn't recommend the band to anyone. i hear too many stories of problems with it. i have been researching the sleeve for about 1 1/2 yrs , back and forth and i think I'm coming to decision. take your time. you will be ready, when you feel you are. research as much as you can and even get a few opinions. each time you learn more and more.

I joined a couple private FB groups, and found the topics were dominated by silliness - don't really know how to describe it. They ranted against older people too much I guess. I really like being here, and adding my 2 cents if I think I can give someone good advice. We are living and learning every day and enjoying the journey!

I was sleeved 1 month ago. I was grocery shopping 4 days after surgery, and doe the past 3 weeks I have shopped 3-4 hours a day feeling better than I have in many years. I am 1 year retired, but I know I could have been back to work 1 week after surgery, of course taking it easier than normal. No lifting though! I am 67 years old and have a world of energy. I have only lost 15 lbs since my day of surgery. All is well. Merry Christmas!

LindafromFlorida got a reaction from princesstami in Those first 2 weeks... how much did you eat?
I have learned there are so many variables here because so many doctors have different plans, that you MUST stick to the guidelines of your doctor. I have also learned that everyone can eat different things and it does not affect them the same. My surgery was Nov. 18, my husband Dec. 2. I have learned we were overeating during the first month, and now we listen to our bodes to really tell us when we are hungry, and seriously we are seldom hungry but eat for the Protein when we are. Remember it is called head hunger when you are stressing about food. Get busy doing other things. Merry Christmas.

LindafromFlorida reacted to Alex Brecher in Quest Bars are not what they say they are
I noticed this on reddit the other day. Seems like Quest is going to fight the case.
“Quest has been named in a lawsuit regarding our Fiber count. It is our belief and conviction that this lawsuit is without merit. The things a plaintiff states in a lawsuit are just that — – his statements. He doesn’t have to prove them to put them in the lawsuit. He just needs to write them down. Proof is another matter. We believe that what is written in this lawsuit results from not understanding the current state of Fiber science. We are fighting this case to make it clear to our customers and partners that our label information is 100% accurate.
Make no mistake, Quest Nutrition will not back down in the face of what we believe are attacks based on lack of good information. The outpouring of support from our customers and supporters on this issue has been overwhelming. We’re very grateful for the support, and we want to assure everyone that we are committed to bringing the highest quality products to our loyal fan base. We have nothing to hide and we look forward to a very visible public refutation of these unfounded claims.”

I'm also an attorney, and I totally feel you about uncertainty.
It's totally normal for us to feel anxiety about this. I'm getting sleeved on Thursday, and I'm about to jump out of my skin with anxiety! However...
    1. Have you ever had any surgery before? Did you tolerate the drugs alright? My surgeon told me that less than 1% of patients have complications during the surgery or right after.... Those are awesome odds! We can do this!
    2. I've heard that some people don't vomit, as long as they don't overdo it on consumption. Maybe you'll be like that, eh? I hope I am too! I hate throwing up. On the upside, maybe this will get you over your phobia? Maybe? Eh?
    3. You're not giving up your stomach, you're making it smaller. After healing, you'll have a perfectly functional stomach again.
    4. Your tastes might change, that's true, but that's okay! Frankly, I'll be thrilled if I never wanted cake or pizza again! And I'm sure you'll be able to drink water!
    5. This is the part I'm the MOST certain of: If someone judges you for doing this, eff 'em. No, seriously. You don't owe it to anyone to tell them that you had this surgery. If you do choose to tell people, they better get with the program. Haters to the left. This is NOT an easy choice, NOT an easy lifestyle we're adopting. But you and I are choosing to live healthier. Everyone in your boat needs to be paddling in the same direction, not drilling holes in the bottom.
    6. 100% of the people that I've met have no regrets (after the recover process!). Everyone online, everyone in person. You may be different, maybe...but probably not.
    7. BREATHE! You can do this! If you can get through law school, and pass the bar, you can do THIS!
